Captain Marvel (2019)
The Worst Marvel "hero"
Laughable and unlikeable, flat characters. Nick Fury was the only good one.
Her hatred of earth men was so far and beyond any other feminist film. I am a woman and this was not empowering for women but more of a to be a strong female you have to be angry all the time.
Poorly done Marvel.
Jesus: His Life (2019)
Contradicting what it says it is
This series is spectacularly cast and produced. For one of the first times the viewers get to see what people in that time and era might have actually looked like. And the first person perspective is a unique and different view on the greatest story ever told.
That being said, the content was confusing a good deal and contradicting the sources which it claims to have sited.
I can only speak from a Biblical point of view, being a scholar myself, and say that many of the portrayals contradict things that are portrayed in all the gospels-there fore should be included/referenced. As opposed to portraying characters as being confused when all sources indicate they were sure-I speak primarily of the John the Baptist episode that portrays John as not knowing who Jesus was after baptising him let alone claiming Jesus did not know who He was til he was baptised which contradicts the primary sourcing of this docuseries. This production is supposed to ONLY cover what other could have thought and does not have the authority to say Jesus thought anything aside of what the Bible says of him-as this production claims in advertisements.
So disappointed in that end.
Ralph Breaks the Internet (2018)
Much worse than the original
The promise of a continuing adventure in the gaming world was so exciting and the way that WiFi was structured was amazing-but the story was severely lacking. Penelope is portrayed as the one in the right the whole time but she is being just as selfish as Ralph is. But because she's a girl ahe doesn't have to apologize to everyone like EVERY SINGLE MALE CHARACTER does? They are brainwashing our kids to think all men have wronged all women and that's just not true. I want my son to grow up in a world where men and women are equals and apologize to each other for being selfish and impulsive. Not recommended for families with boys.
What Men Want (2019)
Overall message good
Despite some of the over the top weird stuff (too many to list), the whole point that you can be a strong, independent, successful woman and still be kind was amazing! And very appropriate to a time that is seeing great changes in society. No one should go into a room expecting to be attacked and hit first, because more than likely that is not the case and if it is -THEN you punch them with words of course. I do think that message was missed in the midst of the random craziness.
Alita: Battle Angel (2019)
Thrilling
Despite the blasé and cliché looking trailer, Alita was quite good a surprising. Much more depth than the trailer portrayed. A fun watch for sure.
A Christmas Horror Story (2015)
Just..no
The only good thing about this film was the Norman storyline and you had to wait through so much other crap to get to the decent storyline. William Shatner was THE best part and the biggest reason for watching it. After watching the other Krampus movie we were hoping to find a fun kind of thrilling Christmas film, but this was just another horror film using Christmas as the backdrop-getting a good deal of the folklore wrong on top of that AND not really tying everything together!
I wish I would have used those 99mins to watch a good film.
Christmas at the Palace (2018)
Not forced and thoroughly enjoyable
There was something so different in this Hallmark film than in any other. The acting wasn't over the top and the romance didn't appear forced or random or awkward at all. The characters were all really likeable and genuine. Even the moody royal stereotype was portrayed in a way that made you like him not think "oh here's another tv royal guy". The direction given to the characters on their behavior was just real and relatable.
I thoroughly enjoyed this film and hope Hallmark makes more with this direction.
Christmas Ranch (2016)
Cute Film
Definitely up that Hallmark alley-but certainly for a younger audience. The lack of realistic adult drama and some slow scenes let it down for an adult audience but for younger kids, definitely a win. I watched it with my nieces and they loved it! A good, clean movie.
Corpse Bride (2005)
Just a little too odd.
I felt like there could have been so much more added to make the film more interesting as opposed to having wimpy Victor flail about the place not speaking for himself. it was just odd and frustrating to watch.
The Lake House (2006)
Get your Tissues!
Definitely a tear jerker-but so worth it! A great romantic film, with two of the 2000's most bankable people! It was a movie that could have gone either way by the description and ads but it definitely surpasses expectations. I watch it again and again.
