Waiting for Harvey: A Beginner's Guide to Cannes (1999)
fantastic.....seek it out...a great doco film
a really fantastic mix of film and digital technologies... part funded by the bbc, this seriously very very funny intelligent documentary, really shows how even only few years ago good creative work was being made.. alas now all we get is 1 director and his pocket dv camera.. this film follows various rather wonderful characters, film makers good and bad.
all with great passion, on a desperate quest for fame glory and fortune,to the cannes film festival... the characters really are funny, hilarious and tragic.... come on bbc you have dumbed down enough...give us some more stuff like this... yummy
Seconds (1966)
a true 1960s classic..... to admire and study
i love this film as someone that works in the film industry,i have nothing but admiration for all the key elements.. the original David ely novel, the black and white photography is by a true master..great low key subtle acting...the whole atmosphere created, the slow pace is perfect and works so well..take the scene with arthur hamilton, bank manager with his wife, they are in the bedroom and she attempts to kiss him...a simple slow scene, but it tells you all you need to know about that dead sterile relationship..it is bleak and pessimistic, and a true dystopian vision of are meaningless existence..it asks dangerous questions and gives us answers, that are at odds with the fluid smooth running of are capitalist societies..
see this film....
