FBoy Island (2021)
Hilarious
Mindless entertainment - just what the world needs these days. The guys' interactions are hilarious, even moreso than in similar shows like Bachelorette. They've improved on the dating reality trend.
Crime Scene Kitchen (2021)
Way better than I thought it would be
I rolled my eyes when I saw the description, but I'm a baking show fan and figured it'd be fine as background noise. By the third episode I'd promoted it to a foreground show - it's great! The crime scene element I'd rolled my eyes at became my favorite part and even managed to rope in my baking show-hater husband. We enjoyed guessing along with the contestants, and they did a really good job of making that element fun and interesting, not kitschy. I hope they do a season 2!
Ocean's Eight (2018)
A fun movie. I am VERY sure the no-star reviews are from men
I watched because my husband loves this movie and it doesn't have that dumb "here's what we're gonna do -- here it is again actually doing it" format. And I had a great time watching it! It's fun, clever, and fast-paced. The characters have personality and the acting is really good. There are a lot of stars in it, but I didn't feel like they were being shoved down my throat - they all had their place. If you're looking for a light-hearted movie night, this is a great choice.
Black Panther (2018)
Best Marvel movie
Reading the negative reviews make me angry - it's as if people are upset that this movie has a higher message. Which it does, AND while being entertaining. There's not a joke every other line like in Thor Ragnarok but rather an appropriate amount of humor. There's a great villain with a compelling storyline. There's a solid plot that makes for a great movie separate from the Marvel universe. And yes, it makes you think.
Jungle 2 Jungle (1997)
Holds up
First saw the movie when I was 8, just watched it again on Disney+ at age 30. Was laughing the whole time. It's not just a dumb kids movie but a very enjoyable film!
Jane the Virgin (2014)
Clever and charming
This show is clever, twisty, funny, and charming. With a bit more clever thrown in. Finally something to watch where the main character isn't cringeworthy or annoying, and both she and the other characters experience a lot of growth that makes you fall for them. It's good to keep in mind that it's styled after a telenovela so some twists are edging on over-the-top, but they really do pull them off tactfully. Impressively so. I super recommend.
