Hi, Mom! (1970)
7/10
An interesting De Niro comedy, with political and strange humor.
18 June 2009
I was interested in seeing "Hi, Mom" for a few reasons. One, was because of an early Brian De Palma comedy film with early appearance of Robert De Niro. Two, because the trailer to the film looked very funny and strangely exciting. And Three, because I have seen this film on the video shelf for a while.

Back when I was young boy, I seen the film remember showing this to my parents. I wish I would gotten this years back. But I recently watched it online with an exciting feeling that this film was going to be good. And as it turned out, I loved it. However, while watching this, it seems oddly familiar. In my opinion, it looks like De Niro is acting like a Woody Allen character.

So it's about a young man just coming back from the Vietnam. And moving into an abandoned apartment across the street, to discover the people in the other apartments across the street. So he meets and gets in touch with a young lady across the street while almost being a 'peeping tom', he tries to figure out information about her. While tries setting his camera up for the people lots of terrible/hilarious things happen.

Also later on he discovers an audition for a live theater experience called "Be Black Baby" which is a story about white people going to experience what it is like to be a Negro. This segment is actually a frightening and almost as realistic as i've ever seen in a film. But before the segment begins and De Niro auditions for the role as a police officer, it was my favorite/humorous scene where he talks to a mop and ladder. "What did you say to me? Make love, not war? Hey listen I make love very well!"

So there's lots of information from the film. I would check it out if not seen yet. I believe a lot of people do not enjoy this film very much, despite all the racial elements in it, and stuff like that. But I would say that there was really nothing wrong with this film. It's a bright comedy from the 70's, and features the early career of Robert De Niro, and did a very well job as the character Jon Rubin. I enjoyed it! And I would like to say one thing...Hi, Mom!

A Brilliant and Exciting Film! Right, Right?
30 May 2009
What can I say? From watching most of Stanley Kubrick's films, this is probably the best film of his that shows what a creative mind he has. From being a photographer he was, the film shows us extraordinary pictures and classical music along with it, giving it an exciting feel to it.

But in a way, the film can be disturbing at times. It has quite a dark and crimson side to the film. From showing the gang violence, to Beethoven, this motion picture will make you watch this a couple more times to fully understand and enjoy it all over again.

What I love a lot about the film is of course the soundtrack. My favorite piece is the "9th Symphony, 4th Movement" by Wendy Carlos, that has a keyboard theme and is so brilliant.

Kubrick deserves a lot of respect in film making. He has influence lots of people in the cinema today, and really shows a different motion picture here, that still sticks with you, as it has to me.

A Captivating Vietnam story.
24 May 2009
One of my favorite Vietnam war flicks from the late 70's that has an amazing cast starring Robert De Niro and Christopher Walken. A story about a few men that are going to the Nam and find themselves captured by Vietnamese.

A popular scene from the film would be the Russian Roulette sequence. A very thrilling and fearful scene. Some of the acting and creative work done is some of the best acting, best story play that i've ever seen in a war motion picture.

I thought "Platoon" was a brilliant film that shows a lot more Vietnam description than this one. But as for "The Deer Hunter", it may not show a whole lot of war scenes or action, but the powerful beauty of it really shows it's emotional side in the film. De Niro later on in the film goes deer hunting once again and to me I think he realizes that "why shoot such an animal like a deer, when I lived through a living hell in the war?" To me the acting is by far the best i've seen in quite a long time in a 70's film.

The ending of the film is also an emotional and heart-trembling moment in the film where you are really torn up by. I enjoy watching the ending over and over, but somehow it catches me as a disappointing and saddening, realistic ending. It gets to me every time. I highly recommend you experience a motion picture like this one. Films like this catch an amazing amount of power to it, and great symbolism with them deer hunting. A powerful and genuine piece of film "The Deer Hunter".

10/10!

About Schmidt (2002)
10/10
One of my favorite Nicholson films, with an emotional touch.
16 May 2009
Warning: Spoilers
I watched this film a few nights ago, and have seen Nicholson in quite a few amazing films. I think this also has an amazing story with some great performances. This comment does have a few spoilers too.

Nicholson (Schmidt)plays a 66 year old man and knows that he has aged for a while now. After old wife suddenly dies, he is a lonesome guy traveling to see his daughter getting married by a man that he does not care for. He doesn't want this wedding to happen, but at his old age, he probably doesn't any choice.

But before Schmidt's wife he sees a program on TV about saving poor native Americans. So donates money after he just quit from his job in Omaha, and writes back to the child every so often. But as he's traveling to see his daughter, he stops in a few places and looks at towns once again in Nebraska, and camps for few nights.

After the wedding of his daughter and the 'waterbeds and more' man, he travels back home and doesn't want to think about the wedding. So finally at the end, he receives mail back from the child. Someone else wrote for him because I think he was sick. The person mentions that the child drew him a picture.

Now this is the tearjerker moment, it shows a colored picture of the child and Schmidt holding hands. Not too often did I see an old Nicholson cry in such a uplifting way. But man did I love this film! I cried along with Jack, and he knows maybe now that he is an old man and the picture somehow broke him up. But it was a very well made film. Some parts were supposed to be funny in a way when his first letter writes about his wife to child in a angry tone. Also when goes to the restroom, he doesn't use his hands, and doesn't even face the toilet. I mean some of those scenes were a bit different for a film like this.

But overall it deserves a high rating, and I loved it!

Creepshow 2 (1987)
10/10
Confusing at times, but still enjoyable!
18 January 2009
I bought this recently and never really gotten into the Creepshow films, but the sequel is pretty good. It only has three stories, but the fourth story is in between stories, and the fifth story is you watching it! So the first story is entitled 'Old Chief Woodn'head' which is actually my least favorite of the three, but it's pretty well done. It's about a homeless couple in the desert haven't had a miracle for their store in awhile, and the owner has a Chief statue outside his store. So a relative to the Chief is offering rare necklaces to the couple. So they keep hold of the item until the relative's nephew comes to the store and robs them. The nephew has hair that will get him to Hollywood, paid, and laid. The rest of the story is to yourself, and I wouldn't consider it scary until the last part of the story.

The second story is more enjoyable. Its titled 'The Raft' which is about four high school teens are out to have a little fun, until very suddenly one of the men sees a long and wide piece of moss floating on the water. What could it be? What would it do?

The third and final story is almost my favorite entitled 'The Hitchhiker' which a very confusing story about a mid-aged woman on her way home with a nice mercades. So she by mistake hits a black hitchhiker. So people arrive at the scene and all of the sudden down the road, she encounters him again, and the man will not die! About the fourth story. The fourth one is in between the other stories about a young boy who orders a book with a Venus Flytrap story and it eats meat. So he rides on his bike and encounters bullies and they chase him to where the boy get's revenge on the bullies. "They eat meat..." The next story is that you sit and the movie, and make the story....A Creepshow!

Well it sure isn't as great as the first.
23 November 2008
Warning: Spoilers
I seen this about two years ago and I thought it was okay but not great, but then I seen it again recently and I think it wasn't terrible, but it sure isn't no "Die Hard 2"! So this films starts out with Jason Patric who plays Alex and Sandra Bullock is taking a driving test which doesn't go great. So when Alex has a surprise for her and go on a cruise trip. So when aboard they see keep running into a man named Greiger and is the villn in this who played in Platoon, William Dafoe.

He secretly hacks into the ship's computer and runs it on his laptop, and kills the captain, and so Jason Patric goes and stops him. Near the end of the film they are about to crash into an oil tanker. The rest of the film I will not give away. You won't be surprised by much.

You wouldn't expect that Jan De Bont did the second film. I think Speed alone is just fine. If you make a Speed 2, you have to include Jack in it. I mean what if in "Die Hard 2" John McClane was replaced by his brother or something? I mean, stick with original characters.

Talk Radio (1988)
10/10
One of my favorite films, I hope my review is helpful.
26 September 2008
Warning: Spoilers
Alright, the first time I seen "Talk Radio" was in a video store for only $2.00 on VHS believe it or not, and I looked at it and I thought it might be about Howard Stern, because I just looked at it for about thirty seconds, then just didn't see it again. Then I went to another store about a month later and I found "Talk Radio" on DVD for only $5.00. So I see it was directed by Oliver Stone, and I picked it up. So after the film was over I was speechless. I have never seen such a film like this. Here's the main plot, then i'll tell ya what I thought of it.

It is about a Dallas talk radio host Barry Champlain, a Jewish radio host who talks about whatever other people bring up and he interupts, and is taking everything seriously. Now, a network wants to put his show live everywhere in the U.S. So Barry's show gets a lot of interesting phone callers like Chet (a neo-natzi), Kent (a rock n roll drugged kid), John (rapist), and others. Now some of the callers sound like the same actor/actresses. But still I think it fits okay.

Now what I love a lot about this film is the dark corners and the paranoid atmosphere of the radio station. The dark music in the background fits very nicely too. It has a flashback scene in the film also how he started with radio, which I think they did good on.

But the great thing about the film is ending. I was surprised by it, and it kind of makes you feel paranoid a little about the phone callers off the air and everything about it is wonderful. It also tells you how to say the right things to people over a big city like Dallas. One of Oliver Stone's underrated/weakest films mentioned, but I think it's his best in my opinion.

But definitely get this film if you like films with paranoia-feel like films with a dark atmosphere with sinister music in the background. I still watch this film a lot of the times now when i'm bored, as matter fact I watched it tonight. Yeah, if ya wanna really get the sinister feel to the film, watch it at nightime with the lights off. I may sound crazy, but it makes the film better!

Another thing I forgot to mention is that the reason I don't think the film did so well was maybe in my point of view because of the title. 'Talk Radio.' It doesn't sound very tricky or anything, it's kind of plain. A better title like the book "Talked To Death" or maybe "The Abusive Radio Host" or something catchy and not plain "Talk Radio". Or maybe because of Universal Pictures? Oliver Stone usually didn't do Universal I don't think. Paramount might have been a good company. I don't know, something about this film didn't do so well, but I love it.

Martian Gothic: Unification (2000 Video Game)
10/10
A great, but underrated game.
14 September 2008
Warning: Spoilers
I bought this game about probably a year ago now, and I think it's a great game. So the plot is about three investigators are searching the mysterious base on Mars. They soon find out that it's been silent for a few months, and they find voice records of base members (which are now zombies), and they figure out what's going on.

The rest of it is probably spoilers, but the ending is pretty upsetting, but still I thought it was a good game for it's time. While playing the game, it has a very creepy and fearful music playing in the background, and the zombies try to get to and it scares the crap out of ya! But I would recommend it for people that like games like "Resident Evil". But "Martian Gothic" has a lot of mysterious choices in the game, and a lot of times, you get stuck and it's hard to carry things, because there is a certain amount of slots to put stuff in.

Overall, I give it a 7/10. Great game for the PC and Play Station, but very underrated as well.

A wonderful film in a disturbing way.
3 July 2008
Warning: Spoilers
One of my favorite films and my favorite band of all time. I am a huge fan of Pink Floyd's work and music, and now a film is just right for the band.

So it's about a lazy rock star named Pink who sits in his isolated, trashed, pathetic hotel room watching television, and he thinks back as a child, when his father died in the war, his school teacher hurting the children, and he is sad and tired of it all, and is alone by himself from his wife. The rest of the story is to you. I wouldn't skip around in the film, like scene to another scene, because then the film probably wouldn't make sense to you.

The music in this film is mostly from Pink Floyd's album "The Wall" which was a successful album around that time, and the music fits perfectly into the film making the story of the album, come to life.

Some scenes in this film may be disturbing to watch if you are a picky person. Scenes like blood in a pool, closeups of maggots, shaving hairs, rape scenes, and few more scenes which might be disturbing at times. But still although it's hard to watch sometimes, it's still a very good, well done film. Great picture, great music, great story, and also a very film and band.

Battletruck (1982)
5/10
I think "Battletruck" is a better title.
19 June 2008
I watched this film mostly just because I am a fan of Michael Beck and his films. This film I think he did pretty well in. His character seems a bit dark and knows what he's doing kind of guy. So the story is pretty simple.

It's about a futuristic war in the 21st century is looking for a new age in technology. That's about how the film is. I am not so interested in the film, but like I said, i'm a Michael Beck fan. His character's name is Hunter and tries to stop the terrorists. It isn't bad for it's time, but now it's not so great. I give it 5/10 stars.

Also, I would have gave an R rating for this film. I mean it has swearing in certain parts of the film, and there are lots of killings in this. I mean a PG rating? It's not really that nice in the film. Just saying.

Underrated family film.
10 June 2008
Warning: Spoilers
I watched this film about when it came out, maybe a year later. But this film fits in with the other family films by warner brothers like, "The Amazing Panda Adventure" and "Free Willy". This film is my favorite family film in the mid 90's.

The story is about a teenager named Rick Heller who meets a gorilla that his mother's experimenting on, and he starts to notice that she can communicate with the gorilla. So, the real owner of the gorilla takes her away, and Rick wants to see her again and setting her free by the Canadian border.

So Rick steals her from a flea market and escapes with the gorilla. Rick is now a suspect and is being careful not to get caught. The rest of the story is just brilliant. You gotta watch this film if you like family films.

But the ending really sad and great at the same time. I expected more comments on this film, but I suppose it isn't that great of film back then, but I will sure remember it.

Runaway Train (I) (1985)
8/10
Great film about two prisoners escape and on a thrill ride.
3 June 2008
Warning: Spoilers
The story is pretty simple. It's about a prisoner named Manny that must have done a lot of crimes, and has been in a dark prison cell for three years. So the warden Ranken lets him out for once. The other prisoner named Buck is helping Manny escape from a maximum security prison in Alaska.

So Buck wants to come with Manny too, and they walk through the harsh snow, and want to get upon a train. So they picked a train that Manny chose, and the engineer has a heart attack. So, they don't know what exactly is happening. The railroad station picks up their signal and they are watching the train's movement which is not slowing down.

So then they hit an oncoming train, then both men see another train engineer, which is a woman. So, they try to help stopping the train while the warden Ranken is thinking that they are on the train.

It's a very good film, if you are into the thriller action type of genre. What I wrote down is mainly what it's about. 8/10.

Good story to it, but doesn't make it to the success of other action films.
6 February 2008
Warning: Spoilers
***SPOILERS*** I actually think the film has a good story to it, but it doesn't stand out to be the best action film ever or something. It stars Chuck Connors, Vince Edwards, and Neville Brand.

It's about a mad bomber(Chuck Connors) who bombs buildings and areas for revenge, the death of his daughter from drugs, and some other reasons. Since the police are looking for the bomber, the rapist(Neville Brand) seen one look at the bomber's face and was gone.

So a hard-nosed cop is looking for both of them. So he comes and arrests the rapist one night, and is asking him what the bomber looked like. So he then tells him, and they search him down. The bomber then drives a red van with explosives while the cop follows him to a trap and the bomber blows himself up.

So for me, I think the film is okay. It also has some good music in the film. The bomber listens to a tape that his daughter made for him, and it has some funky 70's cop music in some parts. So if you like what you read and you're interested, then I suppose check it out if it's at a fair price.

Necromancy (1972)
6/10
Quite a strange film........
6 February 2008
I have a copy of "The Witching", but i'm not sure if it's the same as "Necromancy". The film is very strange itself. It has a bunch of mumbling in the film. When Orson Welles talks, his voice is all mumbly and really is terrible. It also has a lot of nudity, and I don't know how it had a PG rating. It also has a lot of Satanism in the film.

It has rituals and a bunch of strange, wicked things. For me, I think it's okay, but not the best horror film to see. Very odd with the story and really is messed up. It's about a woman and her husband go to a town called Lilith, and no children are allowed there. Because Mr. Cato(Orson Welles) wants it that way.

You better watch the film if it sounds interesting to you. But it contains a lot of nudity and satanism, witchcraft, bringing the dead to the living and the living to the dead, and just messed up.

John Carpenter is a great director!
25 December 2007
Warning: Spoilers
WARNING: *spoilers* Escape From New York is one of my favorite films ever. The plot is so creative the way John Carpenter has took this film. It's about a cocky-looking man named Snake Plisken. He is sent on a mission to save the president after a plane crash. The Manhatten area is a prison area with no escape. Because a huge wall covers around the whole thing.

But while Snake looks for the president, he notices a bunch of crazy people walking around and trying to kill Snake. It's an interesting film really. Then he meets up with Brain and Maggie and they help him. But Snake also wants to meet the Duke of New York. (A number one).

Snake gets hurt by the Duke and fights against a big man. But then Brain took the president while the Duke hasn't noticed. Until someone seen Brain take him away. So Snake, Harold, and Maggie all try to save the president by waiting by the end of some wall. So then The Duke and Snake have to fight to the death. Until the president kills him.

The whole film is really a thriller of a film. It is an interesting film. The streets are trashed, and crazy people walking around. Strange things are going on in this film. But the way John Carpenter has directed this is great. He made this film very creative the way the film is. It's a great 80's film! I recommend it if anyone likes some thriller/action films.

The Warriors (1979)
10/10
The Warriors is a gang-action film full with suspense!
22 September 2007
Warning: Spoilers
The Warriors is my favorite film of all. It has some great directing by Walter Hill, and this film has been a great success for Walter Hill. It is about a gang called The Warriors that go to this truce and the leader is shot. So the gangs think The Warriors shot him, but it's not true.

So The Warriors come across some gangs while they try to get home by subway. So, when you watch the film, it has some great action in this gang film. It also stars one of my favorite actors, Michael Beck. This film was his best known film too. He also starred in Xanadu, Megafoce, and few others. But it also stars James Remar, Terry Michoes, and other great actors.

This is one great film to remember. It will probably always be my favorite film to watch.

Actually it's garbage....
9 July 2007
Warning: Spoilers
Well, this film really didn't need to be released, because of the TV series "Voyagers". First of all, i'll talk about the mistakes in the film. It shows Phinneas Bogg as the voyager flying through time, and you can briefly see each time that he has a string on his back. Also, Meeno Peluce's voice changes a lot in this. Sometimes he talks with a deeper voice. Since the film was made in 1982, Jeffrey says that it was 1984. That same scene, Phinneas says, "...in 1984", but the way his mouth is moving, he's saying 1982.

So it has a few errors in the film that are pretty noticeable. Now to the story of it. It hasa good story to it, but the mistakeas make it horrible. It's about a voyager named Phinneas Bogg that has a job going back in time to make the history of wherever he's at has to make it look right and better. So, I suppose Phinneas was suppose to go see Christopher Columbus, because of this line..., "This isn't 1492...where's Columbus kid?!" So at that time he meets Jeffrey from a window he crashes through, and accidentally thrown out the window, with his dog with Phinneas's guide book.

The voyager guide book tells him what he has to do in order to get the job done. Strange huh? Well him and Jeffrey, an 11 year boy, go and try to make history happen rightly. So, they visit The Wright Brothers, Titanic, the World War, and few more places. But I mean, the film didn't have to be made, since there was already gonna be a TV Series of it. But actually, this is how the boy Jeffrey ends up with Phinneas Bogg in the first place.

So, it has an interesting story about going back in time, and making history happen. The only thing is the mistakes and maybe the choice of actors in the film. Jon Erik Hexum plays Phinneas Bogg. I think he really plays a good part as starting as an actor, unfortunately he died of that accidentally shooting that happened. But still I think the film is okay, but just never lived up to success in cinema very well.

Xanadu (1980)

Underrated Film, But Still Fantastic!
16 February 2007
Warning: Spoilers
Xanadu(1980)

This film is so underrated, but this has great songs from Olivia Newton John. I loved this film from the first time i've seen it. The director, Robert Greenwald, has done some incredible work with all the music, and fantasies.

Michael Beck, played as Sonny Malone, saw a woman just kiss him, so he looks for her, and finds Kira(Olivia Newton John), the muse. So Sonny meets an old man from his last performance back in 1945. Now all three want to put a big role in music history.

This film really isn't too bad as you really understand the love, music, and how life is a fantasy world. I like everyone's performance also. Especially Michael Beck. He's one of my favorite actors. You may also remember him from The Warriors(1979) as Swan. The two characters he plays has a way different talent.

Rated PG. For language and some humor. Recommentations: Saturday Night Fever, and Grease.

I hope you enjoy this film if you have not seen this yet. Trust me, if you like Grease, you may like this.

The Warriors (2005 Video Game)
10/10
Rockstar makes some excellent gamplay!
26 November 2006
Warning: Spoilers
The Warriors video game is based on the 1979 film version of "The Warriors", and this video game of it is just fantastic. It has pretty good graphics for it and the action is intense and exciting on the missions and around your 'turf'.

You play about 20 missions and some missions you play aren't all on the film of "The Warriors". But it also has things to do around your turf. You can do bonus missions and try to be the best gang in NYC! You face the police, bums, gangs, pedestrians, and more. Rockstar has done a fine job in making of this game.

I got my video game for only $15.00. It was on sale for a pretty good price to buy it. It may be tough to find now, but if you ever come across this game, and you like fighting, gangs, and doing some things on the streets, well this game is for you my brothers.

Personally, my favorite football film.
3 June 2006
Warning: Spoilers
For me, "North Dallas Forty" is one of my favorite films to enjoy to watch and never get tired of watching. It stars Nick Nolte, the star before he did "48 Hrs." is in his excellent performance as a football star in "North Dallas Forty". His character is Phil Elliot who is a football player. He has a bad attitude sometimes about the team.

His co-star friend in this is the country music star Mac Davis. He is Phil's friend and plays football as well. Phil meets a woman and she thinks football is wrong for him. Phil gets injured a lot, takes a couple drugs, and is a wreck of a football player. His team has some jocks on his football team too. Jo Bob is a major one, because he always seems to pick a fight.

But in all, this film is not such a big film, but with Nick Nolte and Mac Davis, this film is one of my favorites to watch for a long time. If you want to get into more of Nick's films, you should definitely take a look at this film for once. It's worth watching if you like football films.

Best silent film!!!
22 May 2006
The Birth of a nation.

I never watch silent films really, but this film is not that bad i suppose. I only watched this 1915 film on TCM not that long ago, only about 2 weeks ago since i think April 30th of 2006. I have never seen this film before except that time on TCM(turner classic movies). This film was really long for a 1915 film also! It went about 180 minutes. Well, i suppose it's not a really bad film. Sometimes the silent films are sometimes boring right? I think it is sort of. The only silent films i have seen are: The Birth of a Nation, and The Phantom of the Opera.

Rated NR(not rated). For nothing bad for children. Recommentations: My Fair lady, Titanic, or Cinderella. Genre: Drama.

The Birth of a Nation(1915) ****(four stars for the TV guide).

Metal Gear Solid (1998 Video Game)

A game that will be remembered.
13 May 2006
This is my favorite Play Station game. It has a great plot story to it while Snake tries to save DARPA Chief and President Baker, and a lot of mischief is going on. Metal Gear is a secret black project taking back to 1979, and they can lauch a nuclear weapon at any target on the planet. It's invisible to radar, and on top that, the base is full of spare nuclear warheads. Solid Snake must stop them!

I still have a copy of the original game, and I still play it quite a bit to this day! It has two discs of great action. I can't wait until the film of it in 2009. I always wanted to see the film of it. But this game has a very good story behind it. When you play the game it's very sad, climatic, amazing, unbelievable, sci-fi, horror, drama, action game!

The ending is however you play the game, and it changes your life forever.

Warning: Spoilers
When I first came across "Altered States", it was in this little store downtown in my area, and I thought it looked interesting, although I did not get the film. Then I go my friends house a few days later, then he has it from that store. So I asked him if I could borrow it, then he said "Sure".

At that time, I was a bit younger and didn't understand about the hallucinating drugs and everything else. But when I seen the whole thing for the first time, I thought it was totally messed up. But now at my age I do understand the film.

It has a good love story to it in a way, but then you also have the main character Eddie Jessup (William Hurt) taking these hallucinating drugs in a boiler-shaped tank of somekind, and he imagines these horrible things. Some of it is based on reilgion, satanism a bit, and actually psychedelic phazes.

So he tries a hallucinating drug that can mess up his genetic and physical body. He starts imagining things like another toe on his foot, lumps moving throughout his arm, and really in a bad shape. He tries to find the truth in these different states of mind blowing activities.

So I would check it out. It does contain a lot of disturbing images and etc. But in a sinister way, it's a great film. The background music to this film is also something I liked about it. There is some music that sounds like it playing with your mind in a comedy way, and than you have very chilling music. I enjoyed it though.
