Not exciting enough to relate to
25 October 2022
I don't really think I related with all the actions in the film, also the political connotations were rather out of date for a modern viewer. At some point you just don't really get involved in what's being shown and what is supposed to be exciting just becomes a little boring.

Probably older men who belong to the generation that were forced to live in the USSR can relate to the narrative and the whole fact of Estonia competing against the giant Russia was considered to be a sort of boost to the national awakening movement, but for a person of a younger generation, it's more like Why am I watching this film.

Karma is a bitch
16 May 2022
I saw the premiere at the festival in Estonia, where this film took the audience by storm and received the Audience Award. It's surely a fun film, reminiscent of vintage horror-comedies of the 1940s, only the horror is more horrifying and the comedy is more sexy. It's a very complicated story of revenge and inheritance and murders and ghosts, but now as I think of it some days later, it also has a very strong message that what you do, just might come back to haunt you.

Unusual
18 October 2021
A beautiful girl is haunted by eerie music. But... everyone else hears it too. A very interesting if somewhat complex point, even though some might not discover it at all. Took me some time to realize what is going on when I watched it at a festival and even had to explain it to some, who didn't get it. So I presume this falls into the supernatural mystery category.

Good adaptation

It would be very easy to ruin this story with biased filmmaking, but this adaptation keeps a nice distance from the narrative and lets us form our own sympathies. I liked the production values, the costumes and the actors. Worth watching!

Glorious
22 February 2021
A very romantic adaptation of the classic tale, with very handsome actors and lavish settings. This film deserves to be better known, as it has very good production value for a TV movie and keeps haunting you. Very well done!

Rising politician and fallen women change history
22 February 2021
I was in the mood for that kind of film, that's why I'm giving it such high score. It's sizzling and sexy. There's comedy and drama and it's very down to earth, even though I think most of it is fiction. I liked the more serious parts, such as the old brothel madame sharing her words of wisdom to the young girl who's head over heels in love. Love hurts.

Legend lives on
16 January 2020
This is based on an ancient legend about a maiden who lives in an unholy spring in the sacred grove, but there are some twists to the ancient story and a cool element of time travel. Could seem slow and dreamlike at times, but I guess that's the point. Very authentic feeling with good actors and great musical score.

Spooky fun
28 November 2019
Saw it at the test preview today and I have to say I was positively surprised. It was a clever and fun film with very good actors. The different stories are interesting and thought provoking. There's an old fashioned "devil" storyteller, who tells us four different tales. Some are historical, some are modern. It felt like watching an old retro horror movie, so it was quite refreshing.

Funniest murder mystery
24 September 2019
Some people are probably left stone cold by this film while others revel in laughter. Depends on your sense of humor and background. The makers of this film say it's an homage to Agatha Christie, but it could as easily be one to Monty Python. It should definitely be watched in a crowded auditorium and not alone at home, because as a vaudeville act, this one plays on the crowd's expectations and anticipation of the next turn of the screw. A nifty and clever little film. Hilarious acting.

The Person, Who Didn't Exist
2 January 2019
Historical films are always good and this one is a thought-provoking one. You'd need to know your basics of Estonian history to fully understand what's going on, but even without the background it's a pretty self explanatory story of wanting to disappear an be someone else.

Frustation and liberation

Interesting female characters keep this one afloat, even though these characters often become cardboard silhouettes. But it's a fair try and holds together rather well.

Black Widows
2 January 2019
I was hoping to get some strong woman vibes from the story, but as a matter of fact the narrative about ladies who try to take hold of their own destiny seemed to be written by a man or rather a bunch of men. So it was all pretty fake and uninspiring.
