The Crowded Room (2023)
How can you score a 10 episode series 3 episodes in
This series has me intrigued and wanting more from the start, that said, it's not perfect. Some series with a rating of 7 have me turning it off within the first 20 minutes, some of those series iv gone back and watched after the series has finished purely because of ratings, they've turned out to be solid 8's which is where I think this series will end up. Tom Holland is shaping up to be something special but he's not the only stand out here, I just hope the story doesn't go tits up like Danny's first chance at a bunk up or his first relationship with the rather mixed up Ariana that prevents it from being fruitful.
Great start not perfect but definitely in it for the ride.
Rating to follow! Edit, this series definitely belongs in the 8's Iv given a cheeky 10 to hopefully help it get there.
Gold Rush: Parker's Trail (2017)
6 for effort but should be an 8!
A lot of effort and planning has gone into making this programme to make it work logistically. It's a shame it doesn't live up to its potential. I'm a big fan of the gold rush series, I think they work because most of the characters are as interesting as watching the gold come out of the ground. This is where this series fails for me, Parker is true to himself, I don't feel like he's playing to the cameras he's pretty dry and quite moody at times but I accept him for who he is and quite like him. Tyler's an ok addition although I think she lacks a bit of presence and personality to carry of her roll. I can't workout why Wow check out the sluice Dan is almost carrying the production or seemingly so. It doesnt work for me at all, either shoot shots and shut up or get rid of him, he's incredibly irritating to watch. Could be so much better with a bit less drama and less cheese. Ok if you don't feel like using your brain too much on a Sunday afternoon.
Around the World in 80 Days (2021)
A review without mentioning the over mentioned person that will remain unmentioned
If your someone that can watch a remade film or series without consistently thinking it should replicate the original or the book, you may just find some enjoyment out of this delightful adventure series.
Its nothing like the original by the already mentioned too many times, but....
Its an engaging story if you give it a chance with a great cast.
Admittedly, pacing is pretty poor at times and more so in episode one. I was close to switching off at this stage because it seemed the writers had originally planned an 80 episode series, changed there mind and edited the first ten episodes badly into episode 1. If you can get past this rather disappointing start, theres an exciting story to be told in the next 7 episodes and yes, they do get better and better. The characters grow and you slowly get hooked on a completely different story to what one may call original, but who the f cares.
Give it a chance, theres far worse than this getting churned out constantly on Netflix and Amazon, it was actually refreshing to see a different take on this story. Im a huge fan of phileas fogg, having seen all the films and series from the past, it takes nothing away from the latest take on a great adventure story.
Its definitely a grower.

A Friend of the Family (2022)
A perfect series with disgraceful characters (Not just the obvious one)
I watched the documentary on this when it came out back in 2017 which as some other reviewers have stated it's a worth while watch prior to watching this to get you up to speed, Abducted in plain sight is an unfortunately accurate documentary on this series that in itself is incredibly accurate and perfectly executed on all aspects!
Now the hard part is accepting this actually happened in the way it did, i cannot in anyway get how any parents allow this to happen, forget religious nuts, forget naivety, we/most wasn't that stupid 50 years ago, the old man should have grew some balls and done what any man would do in that situation. The mum, seriously? To go and do that after what happened to the daughter? It's easy to blame Bob Broberg creating this narcissistic, pedophilloic, genius but the parents are just as much to blame here, it's frightening they allowed it to happen.
Its a tough time parenting with social media, kids with mobile phones, all the apparent dangers but my gosh at least they are aware of these nutters and have some savvy. Knowledge is power!
Overall it's a tough watch but definitely worth your time, it actually happened ffs!
SAS: Who Dares Wins (2015)
The show just got Americanised
Iv watched this show from day dot, I'm not gonna jump on the lack of Ant Middleton, whilst he is sorely missed, the addition of typical Americanisation, ("erm too much drama"!! ) !?! Has completely ruined this show. It's been in steady decline as most reality tv programs do, it's fun and intriguing to start with until the business end of the realty kicks in.
Good whilst it lasted, thx for the initial effort, move on.
The Thief, His Wife and the Canoe (2022)
On the fence but so far pacing seems off
I'm committed to watching this series and equally intrigued to see how it unfolds but the pacing seems off to me after the first episode, rather than jumping from scene to scene with little explanation as to why John Darwin ended up in a state of mind to deceive his own children into thinking he was dead, I'd like to see more of an insight to the psyche of a man that can carry out a so seemed half hearted plan?
Watching with interest but I can't help thinking there's an interesting true story to be told with better writing and direction.
Trust No One: The Hunt for the Crypto King (2022)
Unfortunately there will be many more stories like this one
Over the next few years this same story will be told again many times, when you allow an international Ponzi scheme to go on for so long and I'm talking about cryptocurrency as a whole, unregulated, this is what happens. There's many exchanges across the world that have popped up and down in no time claiming to be regulated by FCA etc but ultimately until serious regulation is in place, this space will remain the Wild West.
The guy that transferred 400k in one transaction without doing any testing on that exchange needs his head testing.
Good documentary, if your not familiar with the world of crypto watch it, it shouldn't necessarily put you off investing, do your due diligence before you do.
The sister is as transparent as a pane of glass, don't believe a word she says.
For what it's worth, I doubt the death certificate is worth the paper it's written on, certainly not as much as the doctor received for producing it.
Deep Water (2022)
I have a new worst film ever
How does this even make it to production? I like films that take me away from the realms of normality but this is just pure tripe. Deep water is supposed to be a drama mystery thriller, there's no mystery or thrills to be had. The drama box is left unticked, there's nothing believable about any part of this production.
Grace Jenkins is a star in the making, a great little actress although I wonder what she will think about this pile of garbage when she's old enough to understand just how bad it really is.
2 stars for acting alone there's nothing else to like.
Against the Ice (2022)
Excellent film if your in the mood
It's a slow burn for sure, that's a part of what makes this a very watchable and powerful film. The Captain and Iver spent nearly 3 years battling the unimaginable for most of us... I think the director and 2 lead actors done a near perfect job portraying exactly that. It's not a slow boring film by any means as some reviewers have stated more a tough journey into the dark but incredibly rewarding time they spent in the Arctic.
I personally need to be in the mood to watch this kind of film, I'm glad I did.
Shame the beards didn't change length, it's hypocritical but lost a star for that reason, otherwise perfect.
Pieces of Her (2022)
Which piece of her made her 20 cm's taller?
It's a frustrating watch, from lazy writing, bad editing and poor casting! An average female stops growing at around 15, not Jane, she managed to grow at least 20 cm and completely changed her body shape. Characters don't just change appearance, their intellectual levels do too. I thought the 2 leads done a fair job with what they had, I found myself wanting to finish watching it even though I knew it was ultimately a wasted day binging this mess of a series. Given a generous 6 for effort, could have been much better.
Sneaky Pete (2015)
Bryan Cranston's self indulgence
I'm 7 episodes in, to put it simply I'm bored of the chain of unlikely events that seem to occur with coincidence after coincidence. How are we supposed to get engaged when the storyline is so unbelievable? This could of been a great series if it wasn't for lazy screenwriting and completely implausible events occurring one after the other. The series is some how slow paced but certain parts also seem rushed and un clear.
Bryan Cranston in my opinion which is obviously against the majority of reviews, is really bad at playing this kind of character, he doesn't fit the bill for a typical gangster, not in looks or personality, he over acts at certain points and he's choice of vocabulary does not suit neither him nor his character. I find most of the characters irritating and lacking any kind of presence or ability to grow on you. The attempt at comedy doesn't work at all, the timing is just off, it leaves you thinking well that was an inappropriate time to to say something of that nature rather than making you laugh.
This one really isn't for me, I have thoroughly enjoyed series like kingdom, animal kingdom, and ozark all of which seem to pull off a much more engaging show with characters that grow on you as they develop and the story unravels. I'm not saying they are completely believable but they work, sneaky Pete doesn't.
Time (2021)
Jimmy McGovern at he's best
Great start to this mini series, natural script, great acting from a well recognised cast. Looking forward to seeing how the story unfolds.
Seaspiracy (2021)
The governments need slaughtering
Admittedly the human race is its own worse enemy, these documentaries are always eye opening but the biggest problem is the powers that be, they're the greediest and the most corrupt. They allow monopolies they allow any thing that's gives them more power. They will kill us all!
This Documentary is just another example of that. The crazy thing is people actually believe there's a way to change things, there will always be something, there's too many damn people on the planet!
Amazing documentary great work.
Eternal Beauty (2019)
Incredible story telling, Dark, charming, and hilarious at times.
I absolutely loved this film, it's not usually the type of film I'd watch if I'm honest but I'm so glad I did.
The performance from sally Hawkins deserves every award on the planet for 2021, she's amazing, that said, all the actors done a fine job and deserve due credit.
It's a well paced film that doesn't leave anything untold and all comes together nicely at the end to round off a dark but delightful comedy drama that actually has good intentions and meaning.
To the reviewers that make comparisons to other performances that may of been similar in other films, your reviews are becoming just as boring to read. I see it so much on IMDB people constantly making comparisons to books or other films. There's people that do not read books and there's people that haven't seen every other film.
It's one for the family if your kids have started senior school, nothing they won't already know about and will likely have you all in stitches at some point.
Enjoy, we did.
Gold Rush: White Water (2018)
Watch the last 5 minutes of each episode
I like to see the gold that comes out, it's a testament to the advances we make as time goes on. What I can't stand is the monotonous drama week in week out. Even the actors, I mean minors don't look comfortable on the screen at times.
If they made a series a 2 hour long episode it would be more tolerable.
The Vanished (2020)
Seriously?? The compassion shown from 2 people who can't find their child?
The title says it all, if you have children you will really struggle to watch this rubbish. Do the writers have children or know anything about human emotion? I'm only half way through but unless their is some crazy clever twist my score will remain a 3. That's generous, unfortunately I have seen even worse films than this. I don't believe in giving either 1's or 10's to every film.
Really not worth your time. Frustrating rather than intriguing.
The Beach Bum (2019)
Sad to see a great movie with such a low score
What's wrong with people on here writing reviews about films they clearly can't relate to. With such intelligent writing, picturesque scenery, perfect casting and a performance from Matthew Mcconaughey second to nothing you'll ever see, there really isn't much to dislike.
I wouldn't review a romcom or rate one because I don't enjoy watching them. If you don't like it you don't have to watch it but please don't rate it so low just because you didn't get it!
Matthew Mcconaughey plays a free spirited alcoholic stoner that just wants to enjoy life. I can relate to someone who doesn't want to be a part of a hypocritical system forced upon us driven by greed, lies, false people and corruption.
This movie has so many messages and a wonderful story you just have to be able to relate to it.
Watch it for yourself and ignore this crazy score!
Gangs of London (2020)
Accents, writing, acting, fight scenes, why????
I was really looking forward to this, much to my disappointment iv tried to watch it a couple of times, I end up doing something on my phone out of pure frustration and boredom. That pretty much sums up how engaging this series is.
The scripts, the accents, the unbelievable fight scenes the scenarios. I'm a 41 year old male, lived in Essex and on the borders of London my whole life, I'm not your typical achiever and have been mixed up In most things at some point and I can assure you now this is as unrealistic as it gets, pure drama and done badly. You get the feeling this is made for people that don't know any different which is frustrating, I would prefer to watch a real representation of life as a London gangster. Iv met a few to say the least, none of them sounded like they went to Cambridge. Could British dramas please stop trying to be American and make them for us, not the rest of the world!
Iv rated it 3 out of 10 I'll be honest, it probably deserves more and will get a better reception from people that don't move in these circles or any where near them!
Not for me at all. Stopped at episode 2.
I Am Not Okay with This (2020)
Not original, predictable from the start but brilliantly done
From the start you know exactly how it ends, this takes nothing away from the series at all, there's enough going on to keep you interested from start to finish and the length and pacing is absolutely spot on!
It touches on all the usual high school phase issues and deals with them in the right way as not to offend anyone but more to add comfort to anyone that goes through these problems as a youngster. (Minus the super hero stuff ;-)
As the title says it's not original we have seen all aspects of this type of series before, for me it was a bit like watching the end of the fucking world, sex education with some super hero twist. What more can you want?
Loved it, the only way to watch is in one sitting. Look forward to more.
Wish Man (2019)
Good things come in 3's
Life has a tendency to favour some more than others, it's a nice thought there's some sort of balance how ever long it takes for your luck to turn around.
This is a remarkable story. I'm a 41 year old man and I don't mind admitting this film will likely bring a tear or 2.
I can't fault the job the actors done in this film however it's not perfect, there's moments where i felt a little too much dramatising, I understand it's needed to fill in the gaps when telling a true story and its being hypercritical if I'm honest, it takes nothing away from the film but hence not a 10 for me.
Great movie, loved it. I'd much prefer to watch this kind of story than typical Hollywood blockbusters they keep churning out.
Messiah (2020)
Wow. I hope there's a second coming!
I'm not a religious person by any means, if I'm honest I usually look past movies or series about religion because it's all been seen before. This is different, it's fresh, it's modern, engaging, exciting, emotional, it has everything.
I have to agree with some other reviews, just enjoy it for what it is. Religion is all but a story, for me this is as good as religious stories get. This isn't Just binge worthy, It's impossible not to watch the next one.
Love it, want more.
Angel of Mine (2019)
Maybe I watch too much tv
There was a time when I would have been with some of the other reviewers on here, describing this as a suspenseful thriller.
Unfortunately I found this film very predictable and see exactly where it was going within the first 10-15 mins of the movie. I don't like to give too much away and may have already, hence the spoiler alert.
Other than it's predictability this movie has believable characters, script and plot.
Worth a watch.
Giri/Haji (2019)
Can everyone stop getting shot!?!
Don't judge a book by its cover, or the first few pages.
West meets East. BBC crime drama meets Tarantino(esque) storytelling without the gore but all the brilliance.
Sit back binge and enjoy.
Mortal Engines (2018)
A mixed bag of awfulness
I was only a few minutes in before I decided I would not enjoy this film, however I stuck it out and went through the pain of awful scripts, awful sets, either a complete inability to act or for the better known agent smith to retro toaster reviewer of the year, overacting at its worse. Save yourself the pain and don't bother.
