US Marshals in INDIAN TERRITORY
Marshal Heck Thomas was one of the few U.S. Marshals who were trusted enough by the tribes to be allowed to pursue fugitives into the INDIAN TERRITORY. From 1835 until 1907 (when the Indian Territory became recognized as the State of Oklahoma), the U.S. Marshals were the only face of the law.
