Aquaman 2 directors

If James Wan does not return to direct an Aquaman sequel (which more than likely will happen based on its box office numbers), here are my choices of directors to replace him (so far).

1. Gore Verbinski

Director | Rango

Gore Verbinski, one of American cinema's most inventive directors who was a punk-rock guitarist as a teenager and had to sell his guitar to buy his first camera, is now the director of Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (2006) which made the industry record for highest opening weekend of ...

I feel like Aquaman should have a swashbuckler element to it and based on the strength of his Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy, I think he can provide a sense of fun that Aquaman would need.

2. Tarsem Singh

Director | The Fall

Indian director Tarsem Singh is the son of an aircraft engineer. He was educated at Bishop Cotton Boy's School in Shimla and relocated to the USA to study business at Harvard and, significantly, film studies at the Art Center College of Design in California. Upon graduating he embarked on a career ...

With the right script and his visuals, I think he would make a decent and visually appealing Aquaman film on par with the first film.

3. Kenneth Branagh

Actor | Henry V

Kenneth Charles Branagh was born on December 10, 1960, in Belfast, Northern Ireland, to parents William Branagh, a plumber and carpenter, and Frances (Harper), both born in 1930. He has two siblings, William Branagh, Jr. (born 1955) and Joyce Branagh (born 1970). When he was nine, his family ...

I actually enjoyed the first Thor film and I honestly would like to see an Aquaman film under his direction.

4. Mike Newell

Director | Four Weddings and a Funeral

Mike Newell was born on March 28, 1942 in St. Albans, Hertfordshire, England, UK. He is a director and producer, known for Four Weddings and a Funeral (1994), Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005) and Donnie Brasco (1997). He is married to Bernice Stegers. They have three children.

I chose him based on the underwater scenes from Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. I'm not sure if he would want to do it, but I think he's a decent director for the project.

5. Alfonso Cuarón

Producer | Gravity

Alfonso Cuarón Orozco was born on November 28th 1961 in Mexico City, Mexico. From an early age, he yearned to be either a film director or an astronaut. However, he did not want to enter the army, so he settled for directing. He didn't receive his first camera until his twelfth birthday, and then ...

He is another director who I am not sure would want to do this, but based on the DCEU's track record, they need a director who can deliver a great movie, and Cuaron can do just that. Also, based on the visuals of Gravity, Cuaron can also deliver a visually spectacular film.

6. Joseph Kosinski

Director | Top Gun: Maverick

Joseph Kosinski is a director whose uncompromising style has quickly made a mark in the filmmaking zeitgeist. His four theatrical releases have grossed $2.2 billion worldwide and been nominated for 7 Academy Awards and 2 Grammys.

His film debut, "Tron: Legacy" for Walt Disney Studios, grossed $400 ...

I was actually considering him for a Green Lantern movie, but honestly I don't mind seeing him direct any film for the DCEU. With his visuals and with the right script, I think he could do wonders with an Aquaman sequel.

7. Jonathan Mostow

Director | Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines

Jonathan Mostow was born on November 28, 1961 in Woodbridge, Connecticut, USA. He is a director and producer, known for Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines (2003), Breakdown (1997) and U-571 (2000). He has been married to Laurie Sandell since October 7, 2018.

He was attached to direct a Namor film at some point, why not have him direct the next best thing.

8. Andrew Stanton

Writer | WALL·E

Andrew Stanton has been a major creative force at Pixar Animation Studios since 1990, when he became the second animator and ninth employee to join the company's elite group of computer animation pioneers. As Vice President, Creative he currently oversees all shorts and feature projects at the ...

I know that after John Carter some people would be hesitant to give him the reigns of a live action film, but based on the strength of Finding Nemo and Finding Dory, I think he could make a fun Aquaman movie.

9. Ross Duffer

Writer | Stranger Things

Ross Duffer is known for Stranger Things (2016), We All Fall Down (2005) and Wayward Pines (2015). He has been married to Leigh Janiak since December 22, 2015.

I put the Duffer Brothers here 'cause I'd like to see what they can do in the DCEU. Plus, seeing as how they started out in the horror genre like James Wan, I think they can build on what Wan established in the first film and deliver something great.

10. Matt Duffer

Writer | Stranger Things

Matt Duffer of The Duffer Brothers, born in Durham, February 15, 1984, is a writer, producer, and director for film and television. He is most known as the creator and showrunner of the hit Netflix Sci-Fi TV series Stranger Things. Other works include the thriller film Hidden and he has written ...

11. Sam Raimi

Director | Spider-Man

Highly inventive U.S. film director/producer/writer/actor Sam Raimi first came to the attention of film fans with the savage, yet darkly humorous, low-budget horror film, The Evil Dead (1981). From his childhood, Raimi was a fan of the cinema and, before he was ten-years-old, he was out making ...

He would've been my choice to direct a Flash movie. But if Warner Bros. wanted to embrace a fun and campy tone for Aquaman, Sam Raimi would be a great choice, 'cause no one does campy fun like Sam Raimi can.
