Are we looking at TV ratings all wrong? Nielsen is having a hard time keeping up with the changing landscape. With each development comes new questions about how best to monetize and measure the effect a show has on the viewer -- questions that keep Matt O'Grady, the Evp of Media Audience Measurement for Nielsen, "up all night." Freddie Smith promises “opportunities for clothes to come off” on Days Of Our Lives. Glee's Chris Colfer says, "As Kurt, I get to wear all these amazing things, by people whose names I can’t even pronounce." Chuck Pratt says "The Lying Game" book was also lacking lots of hunky male characters necessary for a good teen soap. Martha Byrne gets Pretty. Kathy Brier and Chris Stack are returning to One Life To Live.

Two and a half years ago it could fairly be said as late as daybreak on Christmas morning that Frank Miller was among the best-known comic book artists in the English-speaking world. This was due, in no small part, to a pair of strikingly popular movie adaptations of his work: 2005’s Sin City, which Miller co-directed with Robert Rodriguez, and 2007’s 300, directed by Zack Snyder. Both of these films arrived during a particularly fertile period for “comic book” movies—one arguably not quite yet exhausted—by which I mean relatively orthodox action films plugged into recognizable brands with ready-made potential for lucrative sequel and merchandizing opportunities.
Some might argue that “superhero” movies would be a more accurate term; I’d agree, but it still wouldn’t be quite exact. To my mind, the popularity of these pictures comes less from a heretofore veiled public desire for comic book subgenre particulars...

Changing TV Finances Behind CBS Move to Tweak Genre With Deeper Plots
CBS asked for an intriguing tweak in primetime: Place heavier emphasis on the characters. "We were willing to take this in a direction where it was more strongly procedural, and they were the ones who pushed it in this direction," said Robert King, co-creator of The Good Wife.

Teri Hatcher has blasted "ridiculously untrue" reports she's quit Desperate Housewives, insisting she will stay on the show until "it's cancelled".

There's no word from the studio on the who, how or when of the new Buffy, which is still in the script-writing stage. But a representative confirmed that while we can expect plenty of saucy, sexy smarts from the heroine, this movie's vampire slayer is "not your high school Buffy."

The Spirit, the brainchild of Will Eisner as re-imagined for screen by Frank Miller, is a film filled with stunning visuals that should have never been made. After seemingly rising from the dead, detective Denny Cold forsakes his real identity and becomes The Spirit, a crime-fighting vigilante. Under the guidance of his old friend Police Commissioner Dolan, the Spirit operates where the cops cannot. Written in the 1940s by Will Eisner, the Spirit bears all womanizing tendencies of male heroes created during that time, like James Bond. He claims to love good girl Ellen Dolan (Sarah Paulson), but still likes to canoodle with any girl that catches his eye – including bad girl Sand Saref (Eva Mendes). Director Frank Miller’s adaptation of the comic for film is another journey into the world of digital green screen madness. Miller achieved filmmaking success with movies like “300” and “Sin City.” Unfortunately, there ...

Lionsgate Films have presented a series of clips from their upcoming action adventure movie, "The Spirit". While four of them focus on the main character, The Spirit, one of them, the "Eye Candy" clip, displays interactions between the ladies. In it, Sand Saref and Silken Floss meet each other for an exchange. There, Saref warns Floss about Octopus after Floss explains why she joins him in the first place.
The other four clips are called "Common Criminal", "The Spirit vs. Octopus", "Hospital" and "The Alley Fight". The Spirit goes into Saref's room to arrest her in "Common Criminal". The next clip shows him facing Octopus' smoking guns, while another one presents Spirit romancing Ellen Dolan in an examination room. The last one displays the time he saves a lady from a group of thugs.

In all the promotional materials for the film, Silken Floss has been showcased alongside all the other women in the story, suggesting the role played by Scarlett Johansson is a lead, along with Sand Saref (Eva Mendes) and Ellen Dolan (Sarah Paulson). But Silken started off as a minor role-- until Johansson expressed interest. Johansson told a story at Saturday's press conference for The Spirit about meeting with Frank Miller about the movie, even though there weren't really any parts for her in it. "At the end of it I was like 'I'm sad there's nothing for me to do!' and he said 'I'll think of something.' He decided to expand this character." Johansson added with a smile, "I got super, super lucky." In the film Silken is the accomplice to The Octopus (Samuel L. Jackson), a brainy student hoping to learn from his evil ways. It's hard...

More TV spots are coming out in the support of "The Spirit". Though each takes about 30 seconds to view, they promote the action fantasy movie from different angles. The first one, entitled "Angels and Demons", is focused on Sarah Paulson's Ellen Dolan and Eva Mendes' Sand Saref as they are described to be two completely opposite of one another, one represents purity while the other is identified with sin.
The second TV spot presents the conflicts between The Spirit and his foe, Octopus. Called "Believe", the promotional video also lets out many action sequences as well as a scene with seductive Silken Floss played by Scarlett Johansson. Meanwhile, the last TV spot named "Power" turns the attentions to the women in the movies. It is explained that the gorgeous ladies have thirst for power and a "thing" for The Spirit.

A new TV spot from Frank Miller's The Spirit has hit the web!
{sidebar id=1}Adapted from Will Eisner's comic book series, "The Spirit" is a classic action-adventure-romance genre-twister written for the screen and directed by Frank Miller (creator of "300" and "Sin City"). Lionsgate Films have just come out with a new featurette for their forthcoming comic adaptation, "The Spirit". Focusing on each of the beautiful women in the life of the superhero, the featurette is hosted by director Frank Miller as he introduces the ladies, Sand Saref, Silken Floss, Lorelei, Plaster of Paris, Morgenstern and Dr. Ellen Dolan.
Apart from character description by Miller, the nearly three minutes video exhibits commentary from the actresses who play the characters in the film as well as fresh footage from the film. Eva Mendes, Scarlett Johansson, Jaime King, Paz Vega, Stana Katic and Sarah Paulson all take turn to talk about their individual characters, exposing what makes each character unique.
Centering its story on a rookie cop by the name of Denny Colt who returns from the dead, "Spirit" follows the masked hero as he strives to sweep off criminals, including his nemesis, Octopus, from Central City.

Although we've pretty much seen almost everything for The Spirit that they'll show us before it opens in theaters in December, it doesn't hurt to share a few more badass photos. I don't really care how it turns out in the end, because these photos are great, and I admire this film for its stunning visual style. Frank Miller can definitely create a style truly unique to only his mind and these photos have captured that look in a way that has even impressed me. I don't know if The Spirit will indeed blow my mind or bore me to death in the end, I just know it'll look great. Plus, I'll admit that I think Gabriel Macht was probably the perfect choice for The Spirit, as far as I can tell, and Sarah Paulson looks insanely gorgeous as Ellen Dolan. While I was originally stoked on The Spirit, now I'm closer to 50/50, as this film could essentially go either way. I am willing, however, to give the film some extra kudos if it goes forward with some blatant breasts-on-display like Sin City. What? I'm just a man...
Movie Poster: The Spirit
Adapted from the legendary comic strip, The Spirit is a classic action-adventure-romance told by genre-twister Frank Miller. It is the story of a former rookie cop who returns mysteriously from the dead as the Spirit (Gabriel Macht) to fight crime from the shadows of Central City. His arch-enemy, the Octopus (Samuel L. Jackson) has a different mission: he.s going to wipe out Spirit's beloved city as he pursues his own version of immortality. The Spirit tracks this cold-hearted killer from Central City.s rundown warehouses, to the damp catacombs, to the windswept waterfront ... all the while facing a...

A fresh supply of "The Spirit" images has been unraveled by Slash Film. Sent by the site's reader by the name of Christopher M, most of the pictures are a close-up look into individual character from The Spirit himself to Commissioner Dolan and female rookie cop Morgenstern. The collection of photos also let out for the first time a shot of what seems to be Plaster of Paris.
Apart from those characters, the pics also exhibit Octopus, Sand Saref and Dr. Ellen Dolan. Moreover, some of the pictures look like to be a cut from the film's scene, like the one in which Ellen and Spirit are buttoning up their clothes when the commissioner walks into the examination room, and the other one where Spirit is tied up in a chair while the scantily clad Paris is swinging her blade toward him with full force.

Frank Miller's The Spirit just got more interesting...again.
Yahoo! Movies has been slowly debuting new character posters for the graphic novel adaptation, and we've already seen Eva Mendes as Sand Serif and Scarlett Johansson as Silken Floss. Now we have two new posters, one featuring Jaime King, certainly memorable in Sin City, as Lorelei, and Sarah Paulson as Ellen Dolan.
Oh...and these posters talk. Seriously. Mouse over any of the girls to hear them read the quote on the poster, or move your mouse all over the place for a seductive yet completely nonsensical conversation.
Oh...that Spirit keeps getting stronger, doesn't it?...
