Like many other TV shows, no matter the network, Fire Country's second season fell victim to the WGA and SAG AFTRA strikes and had to be cut in order to be released at all. While the first season of the show consisted of 22 episodes, the second season will only air 10, making it very close to the finale.
However, the closer fans get to the end of the season, the harder it is to see the point of a major twist that surprised Bode this season. For a good half of the season, he worried that little Genevieve was his biological daughter. Now that the truth is out and it's confirmed that she's not, viewers are disappointed.

By the very nature of Fire Country, death should be an integral part of it.
But while destruction has reigned on the CBS firefighter drama, death has been a much less frequent visitor.
There have been five deaths throughout 28 episodes of Fire Country.
The most significant death, that of Riley Leone, happened before the series began. That event did put several characters on new paths.
As explained via flashback on Fire Country Season 1 Episode 2, Riley had been secretly dating Jake, Bode's best friend. He broke up with her on the night of her birthday.
On the ride home after the breakup, a distraught Riley jumped out of Bode's car and wanted to return to Jake's house. Bode tried to get her back into the car and lost control, crashing the vehicle and killing Riley on impact.
Their father, Vince, was the first person on the scene and blamed Bode,...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Fire Country Season 2 Episode 6 “Alert the Sheriff.”] “I didn’t sleep much, but it was a lot of fun,” series star, creator, and executive producer Max Thieriot says of directing the latest episode of Fire Country. That’s because a lot happens. It introduces Morena Baccarin as Mickey, Sharon’s (Diane Farr) estranged sister. (Mickey also arrested Thieriot’s Bode in the past.) An inmate, after realizing he’ll probably die of cancer before he earns his freedom, escapes Three Rock; Mickey, with Bode’s help, tracks him and the corrupt sheriff down. And the paternity results come in, revealing that Bode is, in fact, not Genevieve’s (Alix West Lefler) dad. Below, Thieriot talks about that paternity reveal, what it means for Bode, introducing Mickey, and more. Plus, let us know your thoughts on the potential new sheriff-centric series we could see here. Bode isn’t Genevieve’s father.

I think everyone’s relationships will be tested,” executive producer Tia Napolitano tells TV Insider of Edgewater and any potential character or relationship breakdowns going forward. “Everyone’s emotional state will be tested. We’re back grieving someone, which is kind of an area we really explored in the pilot where the death of Riley loomed so big, and now we have the death of Cara very fresh, a very fresh wound in our world. So I think everyone is going to experience a test of their fortitude.” At the end of the latest episode, Jake (Jordan Calloway) is watching over Cara’s daughter Genevieve (Alix West Lefler), who might also be his best friend Bode’s (Max Thieriot...

With the opening episodes of Fire Country Season 2, the character of Cara, portrayed by Sabina Gadecki, quickly emerged as a new fan favorite.
A single mom navigating some very tricky circumstances, Cara embodied much of what makes the show so different from other network dramas:
With her daughter's father behind bars and a new love emerging as the father figure her daughter deserves, Cara was in difficult terrain and often uncertain of the right path. But her devotion to Genevieve was never in question.
If there's a central theme to Fire Country, it's that we're defined by our present actions, not our past mistakes. And Cara represented that idea as well as any heroic inmate.
Warning: Spoilers For Fire Country Season 2 Episode 5 Lie Ahead!
So it came as a shock when the character was killed in an ambulance wreck just as fans were beginning to feel that her best days were ahead of her.

Spoiler Alert! This story contains plot points from Friday’s episode of Fire Country on CBS.
In Friday’s episode dubbed “This Storm Will Pass,” the Edgewater firefighters encounter their first firenado that ends up taking the life of someone very close to the team.
Here, showrunner Tia Napolitano and executive producers Joan Rater and Tony Phelan explain why it made sense to say goodbye to a character who was first introduced in season one, and how the Cal Fire team — especially Bode (Max Thieriot) — will respond going forward.
Deadline: So was this your first firenado?
Joan Rater: Yes, we’re firenado virgins?
Tia Napolitano: We ask all the writers to come in with the most interesting incidents, big or small, at the top of the season. Someone pitched a firenado. Obviously that’s on the big end of the spectrum and we all gravitated toward it really early.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Fire Country Season 2 Episode 5 “This Storm Will Pass.”] For Jake (Jordan Calloway), the latest Fire Country does start with something that makes us laugh: He spills about Genevieve possibly being Bode’s (Max Thieriot) daughter to Vince (Billy Burke), Sharon (Diane Farr), and Gabriela (Stephanie Arcila)—a.k.a. Bode’s father, mother, and ex-girlfriend—because he needs someone to know as a fire tornado rages around them. But then it all takes a turn, when it becomes clear that Jake’s girlfriend Cara (Sabina Gadecki)—he was thinking of proposing!—is dying of injuries sustained in the ambulance crash at the end of the previous episode. All Jake can do is say goodbye to her over the radio (“I was a different person before we fell in love. … I was going to tell you thank you for loving me. I love you. I will always love you.”). Below, Calloway...

When we last saw Bode Leone, he was in the back of an ambulance pleading his case to Cara.
And because this show never passes up an opportunity to escalate the drama, seconds later, said ambulance was thrown off the road by a falling tree.
Toss in the fact that Gabi’s fiance — and Bode’s romantic rival — Diego was behind the wheel, and it might have been the biggest cliffhanger in Fire Country history.
Thankfully, Fire Country Season 2 Episode 5 didn't do the thing where it opens on some unrelated storyline and forces us to wait to find out what happened, or the equally annoying thing where the important characters are already laid up, recovering, and swapping war stories in the opening scene.
No, true to form, the writers plunge us right into the thick of the emergency, with Bode, Cara, and Diego fighting for their lives in a mangled and stranded ambulance.

As we've discussed in our previous Fire Country reviews, if the current season has a fatal flaw, it's the writers' apparent desire to cram 22 episodes worth of drama into a season that's been shortened by the writer and actors' guild strikes.
In fairness, recent episodes have delivered some of the series' most gripping action sequences to date, but we can't help but think that all of this breakneck pacing is coming at the expense of characterization.
So it was a welcome change of pace when Fire Country Season 2 Episode 4 opened with Bode and Cole spreading homemade skunk repellant and discussing their kids instead of their recent brushes with death (of which there have been many).
And the focus on non-flammable matters continues as Vince and Sharon work to rebuild their relationship, and Gabriela celebrates getting one step closer to becoming a licensed medic.
But the job is never far from these folks' minds,...

Fire Country is a show that lives up to its name in every episode.
The action sequences are unlike anything we've seen on network television before, and the writers do an impressive job of tying the show's interpersonal drama into the storylines about trapped campers and raging wildfires.
And that's a very good thing, because for all of the effort that goes into realistically portraying those towering infernos, we get the sense that it's the relationships that really keep viewers coming back for more.
In case you've fallen behind (and haven't been reading our Fire Country reviews! For shame!), passions have been burning as hot as a five-alarm blaze in the show's second season.
But not always in a good way.
There's plenty of romance, but it's largely overshadowed by angst.
Obviously, there's no drama without conflict, but these days, we're rooting for the writers to show a little sympathy to this show's fledgling lovebirds.

Oh, Bode is certainly back, and so is the melodrama!
Bringing us back to Three Rock was the best way to get a better feel for what Fire Country Season 2 will be like, even if it took a convoluted and controversial turn to keep Bode chained to the fire camp.
That said, Fire Country Season 2 Episode 2 only proved that some of the concerns about this series will come to fruition if we continue down this route.
Fire Country isn't even pretending as if it's not a late-night soap opera at this point.
Might it even be on the cusp of rivaling something akin to Grey's Anatomy? Possibly!
It's not that there's anything wrong with primetime soaps. Hell, the aforementioned medical series is still going strong 20 years later.
The issue is that the writing isn't always lining up and executed as best as it should. It's doubtful that most of the...

After a nine-month hiatus between new installments, Fire Country Season 2 Episode 1 certainly delivered a lot of -- (forgive the pun) fireworks.
In fact, if your favorite thing about this show is its tendency to deliver absolutely bonkers twists and turns, then you might have thought that that was just the episode yet.

When Fire Country Season 1 Episode 22 aired way back in May of 2023, its controversial conclusion left fans divided.
The debut season of the hit CBS drama dragged its protagonists through hell and delivered some surprisingly satisfying character arcs -- only for the season finale to bring us right back to where Bode Leone's story began:
Bode's decision to take the fall for a drug ring landed him back behind bars and left viewers with the feeling that Fire County Season 2 might wind up rehashing the redemption narrative the show already explored in Season 1.
So, after a much longer-than-usual hiatus owing to the writers' and actors' strikes, did Fire Country Season 2 Episode 1 find a way to keep things fresh?
Well, the opening scene whips us around -- is Bode a free man already?! Has he earned his father's approval?! -- before revealing that we're in the well-trodden territory of the dream sequence.

Walker actor Jared Padalecki and his wife Genevieve were in attendance at the launch party for The Statesman supper club and cocktail lounge on Wednesday (January 17) in Austin, Texas.
The menu, an eloquent manifestation of the establishment’s theme, has an array of dishes influenced by the traditional American Supper Club that evoke both nostalgia and innovation, including: cold appetizers like seafood towers, caesar salad and tuna tartare; hot appetizers including crab cake and elevated fried mozzarella; house-made pasta dishes like cacio e pepe and tagliatelle with roasted mushrooms; proteins including a chicken dish with preparation of chicken parm of the thigh and a roasted breast with chicken jus, and whole red snapper with classic sauce meuniere; and ribeyes and filets locally sourced from 44 Farms. For The Table offerings include Parker House Rolls with garlic/chili butter, Hasselback potatoes, and pimento mac and cheese, all crafted by Executive Chef Dan Kennedy.

Among the most enduring films––not only from the furtive creative period of the 1970s, but all of cinema history––Terrence Malick’s second feature Days of Heaven is a work of ravishing beauty. Like most in that rarified echelon, its path wasn’t easy––Malick clashed with crew as he rebelled against the standardized approaches of cinematography and production, then took two years in the editing room to shape the film (admittedly a short time compared to his modern method) and discover Linda Manz’s essential voiceover. Any battles were well worth the fight as, 45 years later, his 1916-set love triangle tale is often cited as the most visually exquisite film ever made.

Strangeland was one of those random bubblecase VHS horror rentals from the local video store that made you feel like you’d won the lottery. An absolute blind rental that ended up blowing your mind and making you feel like you knew something no-one else was aware of. It had it all. Scares, a kick ass metal soundtrack, the birth of internet horror and Twisted Sister’s Dee Snider (who wrote the film as well) coming off the top rope and shocking the hell out of you with one of the scariest villain performances ever.

Sweet Magnolias' co-stars and love interests Heather Headley and Dion Johnstone are good friends and share an excellent rapport. The minute we started our joint virtual Zoom interview, it was apparent how much they had missed working together.
We had the opportunity to chat with Headley and Johnstone during a recent press day, and it was one of the most fun chat experiences. This interview was conducted before the SAG-AFTRA strike.
Both actors were disappointed they didn’t work much together during Sweet Magnolias Season 3, though they enjoyed their challenging, emotional arcs.
Headley and Johnstone shared their thoughts on Helen and Erik’s breakup and whether they believed a reunion was possible. We also discussed the various friendships on the series and Helen taking in CeCe.
Check out the in-depth interview below.

Karma is awful, so hopefully, Kathy gets what's coming to her since she thought she'd won, but she's the ultimate loser.
Dana Sue knew that Kathy vandalized Sullivan's on Sweet Magnolias Season 3 Episode 8, and Ronnie was conflicted on how to alleviate his sister and soothe his wife.
Kathy's biggest mistake was tipping her hand to other residents of Serenity. Almost everyone knows she's playing a game, and they're determined to stop her.
What motivated Kathy to destroy Sullivan's? Besides her family, Sullivan's is Dana Sue's pride and joy, and she doesn't break down much, but she struggles while asking her crew and suppliers for help.
Did Kathy want to see Dana Sue lose everything or merely watch her suffer and fall apart? Even when she stumbles, Dana Sue always lands on her feet because she has family and friends to catch her.
Kathy doesn't understand the meaning of family.

When the community of Serenity comes together, it's heartwarming. However, it's just as noticeable when you're estranged from them.
During Sweet Magnolias Season 3 Episode 6, everyone supported Harlan when his dad had a stroke. They ignored their issues with each other and thought of their mutual friend.
However, when Helen experienced a loss, she couldn't think of anyone to call that wouldn't judge her. How sad is that?
Harlan has mainly been a secondary character, assisting Cal with baseball, so it was nice to learn more about his family.
It's scary seeing a family member fall and not knowing how to handle it, especially learning the uncertainty of it being a stroke.
This room is filled with people ready to help your family, Harlan. Lean on all of us.

Abel Gance’s first sound film is among the most notorious what-ifs of cinema alongside The Magnificent Ambersons and much of Erich von Stroheim’s filmography. The version that was released in theaters back in 1931 and which survives today represents a tattered remnant of its maker’s original vision: a three-hour opus intended to spread a message of world unity and pacifism as Gance’s final word on the aftershocks and moral lessons of World War I. But producers immediately took out the pruning shears, reducing the film to half its intended length and, in the process, muddying its bold, operatic themes.
Compared to Gance’s towering silent epics, End of the World cannot help but feel like a curio. Still, it’s as if Gance knew the path that the film would take, as the first images of The End of the World consist of the director himself, as protagonist Jean Novalic,...

“The Graduates,” which counts Chloé Zhao and John Cho among its executive producers and gets its world premiere at the Tribeca Festival, revolves around school shooting survivors who are unable to move on even one year later. It’s a compelling subject, for sure, but one on which no dramatic treatments have been nearly as astute or profound as what’s already been in the news.

[This story contains major spoilers to the finale of Amazon’s Dead Ringers.]
Dead Ringers wants to leave viewers with questions. Big questions, that will make you rethink what you just watched.
Prime Video’s limited series reworking of David Cronenberg’s iconic 1988 thriller that starred Jeremy Irons has released all six of its episodes, taking viewers on a psychosexual thrill ride with the dangerously co-dependent updated Mantle twins, identical world-renowned gynecologists Beverly and Elliot, a double lead role played by Oscar winner Rachel Weisz. Amid the Mantles’ mission to revolutionize childbirth and as the episodes unfold — hopping from one operatic dinner party to the next — the bond between the sisters fractures as their ambitions veer from one another for the first time in their all-too-intertwined lives.
While publicly described in the finale’s exposé headline as “Abusive Negligent Destructive Murderous? and Brilliant,” the ending to Alice Birch’s adaptation sees the twins privately coming back to one another, with Beverly telling her more dominant sister,...

With everybody still reeling from watching “Dead Ringers,” we thought it was time to talk about the one character whose arc may have come across as unnecessary or random to some. While the Mantle twins, of course, have a profoundly engrossing and engaging storyline, Greta’s plot adds an element of mystery throughout the series. The overarching themes of “Dead Ringers” include birth care, motherhood, postpartum healthcare, and women’s healthcare in general, apart from the twins’ psychosexual interests and their ubiquitous existence in each other’s lives. The Amazon series revolves around Beverly and Elliot Mantle, identical twin gynecologists with big dreams of their own bespoke birthing center. Beverly and Elliot live privileged lives while they work in a fancy hospital that is willing to open a special center for their special twins if they’re able to get the sponsorship for it. Bev and Elliot ultimately failed in...

Unhealthy sibling relationships on TV reach a new level in "Dead Ringers," which tells the story of identical twin gynecologists Beverly and Elliot Mantle. Rachel Weisz takes on the roles of both siblings in her Prime Video remake, which is based on David Cronenberg's 1988 feature of the same name. Elliot is the more outgoing, unhinged twin, while Beverly is more fearful and idealistic. "I genuinely believed - and I know it sounds like I'm half joking - but I thought two people were going to play them because they were just so different," Weisz tells Popsugar of her original thoughts on playing twins.
Of course, she took on both, which adds to the show's hall-of-mirrors quality and also makes its ending all the more disorienting. By the end of the series, the Mantle twins have reached an impasse.

In "Dead Ringers," Prime Video's remake of David Cronenberg's 1988 film of the same name, Rachel Weisz plays twin doctors determined to improve the field of maternal health. Unfortunately, the doctors' codependency and obsession with expanding their business winds up leading them down a dangerous, bloody path.
Weisz, a mother herself, tells Popsugar that she was lucky enough to have "two happy, fortunate experiences where things went right" both times she gave birth, she says. Weisz welcomed her first child, Henry, in 2006, and shares him with her ex-fiancé Darren Aronofsky. She and her husband Daniel Craig welcomed a daughter in 2018.
"We were interested in the show containing lots of different complicated conversations about healthcare, and about philanthropy, and about business."

Twins have been a captivating subject in the Hollywood industry. As difficult as it is to shoot one actor playing two roles simultaneously, it is probably that much more exciting. In 1988, Cronenberg was able to create a masterpiece with Jeremy Irons playing the Mantle twins, based on the 1977 novel “Twins” by Bari Wood. While the film is eerie in the way it presents its twins to us and their overly close relationship as the most conflicting part of their journey, in the series, we see a different turn of events play out because of the hunger for success and happiness… or so we think. Let’s figure it out through a recap of the Amazon Prime series “Dead Ringers.”

No one could be blamed for a chronic case of reboot fatigue, nor a wariness of recasting for recasting’s sake. Interpreting known characters across race and gender lines is promising in theory, but all too often executed without much intention — a hasty, lazy substitute for a fresh take on the source material. “Dead Ringers,” the new limited series from Amazon Prime Video, is not such a case. Riffing on the David Cronenberg film of the same name, the show swaps in Rachel Weisz for Jeremy Irons as a pair of codependent gynecologists. Unlike so many of its peers, “Dead Ringers” reaps ample rewards from its central switch, preserving Cronenberg’s signature strangeness while taking the premise to new, surprising heights.

Considered the master of ‘body horror’, Canadian auteur David Cronenberg is the singular talent behind nightmarish classics including Videodrome, The Fly, Scanners, Shivers and more. Dead Ringers, which was loosely based on the lives of Stewart and Cyril Marcus, saw Jeremy Irons’ twin gynecologists descend into a codependent hell. It’s nigh-on perfect so a remake for TV, ‘but this time with women’ wasn’t necessarily a welcome concept.
Perhaps against the odds then, this version is excellent, expanding on the themes, going hard on the horror and showcasing the talent of Rachel Weisz who scorches the screen throughout.
As in the film, she plays twin gynecologists Elliot and Beverly Mantle, brilliant doctors wanting to revolutionize fertility and the childbirth processes. With backing from Jennifer Elhe’s wealthy investor the twins open a bespoke birthing center meant to destigmatize pregnancy and women’s bodies – the clients are referred to as ‘guests’ rather than patients because,...

Alice Birch adapts David Cronenberg’s 1988 film “Dead Ringers,” swapping the male twin gynecologists with female ones, exploring the world of womanhood and pregnancy in an intrinsic manner rather than sticking to the concept of “twins” as the original film does. Gory, disturbing, repugnant, chaotic, and sexy are some words that come to mind to describe the six-episode mini-series. This is a fair warning for the squeamish because, along with a lot of blood and body horror, there are many birthing scenes that are rather uncomfortable to watch. Don’t expect to leave anything to your imagination because there is no holding back in “Dead Ringers.” The term “baby sister” will never be the same again.
“Dead Ringers” follows the Mantle twins (Rachel Weisz), Beverley and Elliot (same as in the 1988 film), who are genius gynecologists by profession. Ridiculously, along with sharing a profession, they also share partners—essentially everything in life.

Amazon’s six-episode limited series adaptation of David Cronenberg’s 1988 feature Dead Ringers isn’t a perfect series, but in at least three key ways it’s a perfect piece of intellectual property mining.
First, series creator Alice Birch (Normal People) has a clear reason for wanting to tackle Cronenberg’s twisted tale of identical twin gynecologists, using the added narrative real estate of television and the passing of 35 years as fodder for an examination of reproductive freedom and the fertility industry that’s entirely its own. It’s a spectacular thematic vehicle.
Of equal importance, Dead Ringers is a spectacular acting vehicle, and in Elliot and Beverly Mantle, Rachel Weisz has the best role, or dual roles, of her decorated career, a mixture of uncompromising intensity, bleak humor and extended heartbreak that’s as satisfying to watch as it clearly was to play.
And, finally, and this might be...

Plot: A modern take on David Cronenberg’s 1988 thriller starring Jeremy Irons, Rachel Weisz plays the double-lead roles of Elliot and Beverly Mantle, twins who share everything: Drugs, lovers, and an unapologetic desire to do whatever it takes—including pushing the boundaries on medical ethics—in an effort to challenge antiquated practices and bring women’s health care to the forefront
Review: The 1988 thriller Dead Ringers starred Jeremy Irons in the dual roles of Elliot and Beverly Mantle, identical twin gynecologists who succumb to vanity, addiction, and obsession. Showrunner Alice Birch (Lady Macbeth, The Wonder) and actor/executive producer Rachel Weisz (Constantine, The Mummy, The Lobster) give a contemporary, gender-swapped spin on David Cronenberg’s psychological thriller Dead Ringers, based on the novel Twins by Bari Wood and Jack Geasland. Weisz assumes the dual role of twin gynecologists Elliot and Beverly Mantle, played to creepy perfection by Jeremy Irons in the 1988 film, signaling a vastly different take on the source material. While Birch and Weisz maintain respect for Cronenberg’s work throughout, “Dead Ringers” establishes it has no interest in retreading the same path.
Beverly and Elliot Mantle share everything. They do everything together, right down to their ambitious career pursuits in blazing a path forward for women’s health, namely reproductive health, even if their methods can be risky or boundary-pushing in their experimentation. Yet they couldn’t be further apart in personality, reflected in their style choices.

As we have seen in years past, it isn't exactly easy to replicate the appeal and artistry of David Cronenberg. This is especially true when his work gets remade or reworked, such as 1989's "The Fly II" or 2019's "Rabid."
