If you see just one thriller this year in which a climactic car chase is followed by the director-star breaking character to deliver a five-minute sermon straight into the camera — followed by three more minutes of Mike Huckabee leading viewers in prayer to accept Jesus into their hearts, before the end credits roll — then make it “Left Behind: Rise of the Antichrist,” the latest in a series of apocalyptic films based on the bestselling Christian book series.
Although “Rise” is the sixth feature derived from dozens of rapture-iffic novels and spinoff novellas published under the “Left Behind” banner in the mid-’90s through mid-2000s, it’s the first in the film series to have Kevin Sorbo as a leading man as well as director. Where past installments were relatively coy about their evangelistic purpose, Sorbo opts to add a literal come-to-Jesus epilogue. You may recall that the last actor...

Sister directors Jen and Sylvia Soska ("American Mary," "See No Evil 2") have come on board to helm a remake of David Cronenberg's 1977 Canadian zombie thriller "Rabid" for Somerville House Releasing.
Porn star Marilyn Chambers played the lead role in the original of a woman injured in a motorcycle accident who undergoes experimental plastic surgery and develops a stinger that she uses to feed on people’s blood - triggering an outbreak of a rabies-like epidemic that turns its victims into bloodthirsty zombies.
One of Cronenberg's earliest works, the filmmaker went on to the likes of more well-known terror tales like "Scanners," "The Brood," "Videodrome" and "The Fly".
John Vidette, Paul Lalonde and Michael Walker will produce. Filming will take place in the summer in Canada.

Finally, the day we’ve all been waiting for has arrived. No, I’m not talking about any of that “Oscars” silliness, or Neil Patrick Harris taking on hosting duties. No, I’m talking about the 2015 Razzie Awards, in which all the crap of the crop from this past year in cinema at last gets its well-deserved comeuppance.
This year’s “winners” are a particularly disreputable bunch, with Kirk Cameron leading the pack for his atrocious Kirk Cameron’s Saving Christmas and Michael Bay reliably racking up more Golden Raspberry Awards for Transformers 4: Age of Extinction. The 2015 Razzies "winners" have been announced, leaving the "losers" to breathe a collective sigh of relief -- because, well, who the hell wants to win a Razzie?
You see, for the past 35 years, on the eve of the Oscars, the Golden Raspberry Awards has honored the very best of the very worst movies released the previous year -- and this year's competition was nothing short of spectacular...ly tragic. Everyone -- from Razzie favorites Nicolas Cage and Michael Bay to newcomers Nicola Peltz and Gaia Weiss -- was in the crosshairs, but only 10 took home Razzies.

The Golden Raspberry Award Foundation has announced the nominations for the 35th annual Razzie Awards. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, The Legend of Hercules, and Transformers 4: Age of Ex-stink-Tion are leading the nominations for worst movies of the year. The only name I don't think belongs on this list of nominations is Mel Gibson for his role in The Expendables 3, because he was freakin' awesome in that!
You can check out the full announcement below, followed by the nominations list. Look it over and let us know if you agree with what they claim is the worst of 2014.
Hollywood was not happy with box office returns for 2014, their lowest-grossing year in recent history. Despite a handful of high-grossing hits, there were way more major misses — movies based on recycled premises and re-worked concepts that were already tired a decade or more ago, the cinematic equivalent of re-treaded tires.

Nominations for the 35th annual Razzie Awards, which satirize “the Worst Achievements in Film for 2014,” are out. Transformers: Age Of Extinction leads the field with seven; while Kirk Cameron’s Saving Christmas and The Legend Of Hercules are tied at six nods each.
As usual, the Razzie races were unveiled one day before the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announces its picks for the best achievements of the year in film. But are the Razzies softening at 35? A new category has been added this year for the Razzie Redeemer Award, which acknowledges “that past nominees and ‘winners’ can (and often do) go on to far far better things.” The inaugural class includes Ben Affleck, Jennifer Aniston and Kristen Stewart.

Growing Pains: Armstrong’s Re-hash of Christian Agenda Hardly Rapturous
The end of times is here again with Left Behind, heralded by the presence of Nicolas Cage as a faithless pilot, sputtering about in the continued Humpty Dumpty phase of his grimacing career. For those who don’t know, this is the first chapter in a series of books by Timothy Lahaye, the evangelical Christian author, and was initially made into a cheapie film back in 2000 starring scion of all things ‘common sensical,’ Kirk Cameron. Time and greater talents were unable to aid the material in any discernable sense, however. This latest attempt was helmed by Vic Armstrong (a stunt man whose last notable directorial feature was the 1993 Dolph Lundren film, Army of One), and it seems this type of ideological fantasy is unable to divorce itself from floundering in skimpy productions that compromise technical integrity in favor of its belabored,...

Every time we upload a new Left Behind poster, I can feel Foywonder checking movie showtimes in anticipation. This weekend, the hype machine rolls on with a pensive-looking Mr. Cage standing amidst the flames. Oh, how I cannot wait!

Growing up in the Southern Baptist Church, I was sure of two things. One, if I believed Jesus Christ was the Son of God and accepted him into my heart I was a Christian for life. I still adhere to this, although I believe you do have to attempt to live by the guidelines given to us in the Bible. Next, Jesus was going to take all the believers in the Second Coming and leave us sinners to suffer the reign of the Antichrist in the Tribulation if I didn't. I also believe this to be true, although I'm not making any claims to knowing when or how it will all transpire.
In the 1970s and 1980s, the Baptist denominations had a series of independent films they would circulate through churches, inviting neighborhoods to view what were dubbed the Thief or Rapture series. It was obvious that they were designed...

Hope you’re ready for another apocalyptic thriller, ’cause Vic Armstrong‘s upcoming Left Behind (currently in production) definitely looks promising. The young adult Christian book series Left Behind is being resurrected with Nicolas Cage toplining the cast. The book series is about a group of people who realize they were not taken up to heaven during The Rapture, and now must figure how to survive on Earth with all the other people who were "left behind." It’s the day for unexpected talent combinations. First came word of Jason Segel and Drew Pearce working up a film based on a documentary, and now it emerges that stunt maestro Vic Armstrong and Nicolas Cage are teaming to reboot the film series based on the Left Behind books. Yes, those Christian apocalypse things that were direct-to-dvd back a few years ago.Honest, it’s not the fabric of reality being warped as Hallowe’en creeps closer: Armstrong really is making a rare leap into the director’s chair for what, assuming the first film is a success, is planned as a trilogy.Based in Christian beliefs about the End of Days (what Ray Stanz would call “Old Testament, real wrath of God type stuff”) the Left Behind series by Tim Lahaye and Jerry Jenkins is a wildly successful franchise (among a certain demographic) of thrillers about humans trying to survive post-Rapture.

Nicolas Cage is in negotiations to star and legendary stunt coordinator Vic Armstrong to direct the first of a proposed new trilogy of films based on Tim Lahaye and Jerry Jenkins's Christian-themed "Left Behind" novel series says Heat Vision.
The sixteen book series is set in the wake of 'The Rapture', the Christian eschatological event in which that religion's true believers are transported to heaven.
What remains of the world is shattered and chaotic, and from these ashes rises a Romanian politician promising to restore stability - a politician who is actually the Antichrist.
Cloud Ten Pictures produced three faith-based films in the series between 2000 and 2005 that starred Kirk Cameron. Shot for just $4 million each, the films were both critical and financial flops, while even the fan base took issue with the films as they strayed far from the book's plots.

Let me repeat that: Nicolas Cage to star in reboot of Left Behind trilogy. That is to say, Nicolas Cage will star in a movie version of the Apocalyptic Christian-themed books about the survivors on earth following – ahem – the Rapture. Oh. My. God. Literally.
The initial report of the upcoming Cage-tastrophe comes from The Playlist, though I actually had to check several sites before I was convinced that it was not some elaborate Onion joke. But it seems to be true. Cage will indeed be starring in a reboot of the Left Behind trilogy, which has once before been made into films starring – who else? – Kirk Cameron. Does this mean that Kirk and Cage will be teaming up? Please, God, let it be so.
The Left Behind reboot will be produced by Cloud Ten Pictures, the folks responsible for the first series, with Paul Lalonde back as writer and producer.

Another day, another piece of Nicholas Cage casting news! This guy is signed on to star in so many film projects that I'm starting to think that he's got a Cage clone out there helping him out. He's currently in talks to star in a faith based action thriller called Left Behind. The movie is based on a series of books written by Tim Lahaye and Jerry B. Jenkins, dealing with the End Times. It features a Christian eschatological viewpoint of the end of the world.
Apparently, this will also be a reboot of a film series already made that starred Kirk Cameron. I've never seen the original films or read the books, but from the research I've done on it it sounds like it will make for an interesting film series. It's easy to see Cage take on a project like this.

In 2001 the Left Behind franchise made its way to the movies starring Kirk Cameron and now Nicolas Cage is in negotiations to topline a reboot of the Christian-themed movie trilogy.
Furthermore, the project has found its director in Vic Armstrong, best known for his stunt work on Hollywood films since the 1960s.
Based on the mega-successful books written by Tim Lahaye and Jerry Jenkins, Paul Lalonde will produce the action thriller with Michael Walker, and co-write the script with John Patus, who worked on the final entry 2005s Left Behind: World at War.
Christian beliefs are again at the center of the new movie, but the story will be in the mold of a classic disaster film since the plot takes place during the first few hours after the Rapture and focuses on survivors.
Filming is expected to start in Baton Rouge, Louisiana next spring and Samuel Goldwyn Films are planning a fourth-quarter 2013 release date.

The pieces are quickly falling into place for the upcoming "mainstream" adaptation of Christian rapture book series Left Behind. Earlier today we learned that Nicolas Cage has been selected to star as the lead in the movie (because sure, why not) and now the project has found its director. New reports have surfaced saying that Vic Armstrong, who has been working in the stunt department on Hollywood films since the 1960s, is now in talks to helm the adaptation. THR says that the movie will be the first in a planned trilogy (naturally) and is being backed by Stoney Lake Entertainment, a new company founded by producer Paul Lalonde. While Armstrong is best known for his stunt work, he is also a long time second unit director, working on recent films such as The Amazing Spider-Man, Thor, The Green Hornet and Salt. His experience as feature director is limited, however.

Last year, the Cloud Ten production company sought to cast Kirk Cameron out from its Left Behind series for the sin of being unmarketable, seeking a more righteously mainstream actor to lead the reboot of its saga detailing how good-but-not-that-good Christians abandoned after the Rapture will fight Satan's forces using only prayer and machine guns. Naturally, given that the plan was to remake God's angry face in a graven image "more in the mold of a classic disaster movie," and it centers on one man in charge of yelling about the apocalypse, writer-director Paul Lalonde could ...
