Jada Pinkett Smith’s Emmy-winning series “Red Table Talk” is returning with new episodes. “Red Table Talk” on Facebook Watch is hosted by Pinkett Smith, her daughter Willow Smith and her mother Adrienne Banfield Norris. The three multi-generational women conduct interviews with notable stars and engage in candid conversations on the streaming series that prides itself in having “unprecedented transparency.”

Updated: The emotional tete-a-tete between Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith on Facebook Watch’s “Red Table Talk” drew a huge audience in its first 24 hours of release, although it’s not clear at this point if that set a record as the social site’s most-viewed original episode in that time period.
Within 24 hours after it was posted Friday at noon Pt, the 12-minute segment, titled “Jada Brings Herself to the Table,” had been viewed more than 15.4 million times. That’s according to Facebook’s public counter that tabulates a view if it has been watched for at least 3 seconds.
Under a different metric, the one-day record holder for views among Facebook Watch originals is a “Red Table Talk” episode from March 2019 in which Pinkett Smith talked to Jordyn Woods about rumors she had sex with NBA star Tristan Thompson, the father of Khloe Kardashian’s daughter. The Woods...

As Hollywood struggles to figure out how to return to filmmaking in the wake of the pandemic, television production has been quicker to adapt. Shows like “Saturday Night Live” embraced Zoom, while the Apple TV+ series “Mythic Quest: Raven’s Banquet” pulled off an entire episode based on being quarantined. But how quick has the adaptation process truly been for certain shows, and why have some been affected less than before? More importantly, what can shows that never stopped producing content teach bigger studios as they navigate unpredictable waters?

In 2008, the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) divided the Daytime Emmy Award for talk show into two categories — entertainment and informative. The idea was to ensure that series competed against those that were similar in tone and subject matter. Yet, more than a decade later, there is some crossover. “The View,” for example, submits in the entertainment subcategory, despite featuring daily Hot Topics segments that focus on politics and news and undoubtedly end up educating some of its viewers. And “Rachael Ray,” which won in entertainment in 2008 and 2009, is now on the informative ballot.
“By design, our show crosses over through both categories,” says Janet Annino, senior executive producer at “Rachael Ray.” “On a given day, we’ll have a celebrity sitting at the table, Tony Bennett singing, or we’ll devote an entire hour to tips and tricks. Jada Pinkett Smith is opting to get personal over political on her new Facebook Watch series “Red Table Talk.”

Exclusive: NBC is making a casting change on Undateable, its multicamera comedy pilot from Bill Lawrence and Warner Bros TV. Aly Michalka has departed the project, which is taping Thursday. I hear she will be replaced with Briga Heelan, who last month was cast as the female lead of another Bill Lawrence/Warner Bros TV multi-camera comedy pilot, TBS’ Ground Floor. Because of her relationship with the producers, Heelan has been able to quickly step into Undateable, in which she is being cast as a guest star because of her existing commitment to Ground Floor. (Undateable will actually film before the TBS pilot.) Written by Adam Sztykiel based on the book by Ellen Rakieten & Anne Coyle, Undateable is described as a bromantic comedy about Danny (Chris D’Elia) and Justin (Brent Morin) — two very different guys who are bonded by their common inability to attract women. Heelan, repped by Gersh and Thruline,...

Michalka, repped by CAA and Principato-Young, plays Maddie, an attractive waitress in Justin’s (Morin) bar who is endlessly attracted to jerks and bad pickup lines … but could she have a sweet spot for Justin?
