Bernardo Bertolucci’s Nc-17 masterpiece “The Dreamers” is receiving a 4K restoration re-release to celebrate its 20th anniversary. The film made history as the first Fox Searchlight Nc-17 theatrical release in 2004, with then-president Peter Rice comparing “The Dreamers” to Bertolucci’s other infamously controversial film, “Last Tango in Paris.”
Bertolucci said at the time that “The Dreamers” being released stateside in its original cut was a relief, adding, “After all, an orgasm is better than a bomb.”
“The Dreamers” premiered at the Venice Film Festival in 2003 and had its U.S. debut at Sundance 2004. Future Bond cast member Eva Green made her credited big screen debut (after a bit part in “The Piano Teacher”) with the erotic psychological drama following a trio of cinephile students in 1968 Paris during the riots. Michael Pitt and Louis Garrel co-starred alongside Green.
The newly-restored version of the feature does not yet have a U.

28 Days Later director Danny Boyle and screenwriter Alex Garland are finally reuniting to make a sequel to their zombie movie classic. As we reporter earlier this year, this sequel is set up at Sony, is going to be called 28 Years Later – and it may even launch a whole trilogy of 28 Days Later sequels. Last year, 28 Days Later star Cillian Murphy said he’d gladly be in a sequel if it was made by Boyle and Garland, and when this project was announced, it was confirmed that Murphy is on board as an executive producer… we just don’t know if he’s going to be in the movie or not. While talking to Josh Horowitz on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Murphy still didn’t reveal if he’ll be in the movie, he simply said, “Watch this space.”
Here’s Murphy’s full quote on 28 Years Later,...

On the heels of a certain Paper of Record’s basically inscrutable insistence that January is actually a good month, it is perhaps tempting to double-down on despair through such a gray (and increasingly soaked) period. Take some small hearth of solace at a slate of moving-image projects being worked into the world. Additional details are scarce but: Production Weekly confirms that Jordan Peele’s next film, recently delayed from its Christmas Day 2024 slot, will begin shooting this summer while Medien Brandenburg-Berlin lists Wes Anderson’s next film––The Phoenician Scheme––as “the story of a family and a family business.” Shooting for Anderson’s film, set to star Michael Cera, Benicio Del Toro, and the recently announced Bill Murray, is slated to begin this April, so expect a 2025 release.

Deadline has confirmed that Danny Boyle and Alex Garland are reuniting for 28 Years Later, a new thriller based off the 2002 film about a rage virus that overtakes civilization.
Potential buyers are being approached by WME, which reps Boyle and Garland. The package is a new trilogy based on the world established in the 2002 original (28 Days Later) and its 2007 sequel (28 Weeks Later).
Boyle is attached to direct the first installment. Garland would write all three. The budget for each movie would be in the $75 million range. Both will produce along with original producer Andrew Macdonald and Peter Rice, the former head of Fox Searchlight Pictures. The latter is a division of former studio Twentieth Century Fox, which originally backed the films.
The Hollywood Reporter first disclosed the news.
