The world of superheroes on the small screen won't be expanding on TNT. In his first executive session as the president of TNT and TBS, Kevin Reilly revealed Thursday at Television Critics Association's winter press tour that the former network has passed on superheroes-to-be drama Titans. "We just decided it wasn’t quite where we wanted to go," he said. The project, from Warner Horizon Television and DC Comics, also had high-profile names attached in Akiva Goldsman (A Beautiful Mind) and Marc Haimes. { "nid": 732352, "type": "blog", "title": "DC Comics Superhero Drama 'Titans' Near Pilot Order

Fox has one of its better slates coming your way with the new season, especially if you take the midseason shows into account. Some of these shows may not jump out at you now as must-see, but some of them are going to take over, if I’m any judge anyway.
Clear showcase offerings Dads, Almost Human, and Us & Them are guaranteed to take off early. Almost Human has J.J. Abrams recognition to pull people in, though it looks to be a show that could flounder after a few episodes, even if I hope it doesn’t. The other two are going to become hits. Unfortunately, we have to wait until mid-season for the Gavin & Stacey remake.
Rake also looks like a winner, as long as the translation can be made to work as an Americanized product, and the show actually delivers what made the Australian original so brilliant.

Hopefully Terra Nova wont need to hide from network sci-fi's Grim Reaper.
Fox has set a date for the finale of the current season its much-hyped prehistoric action drama Terra Nova. The two-hour episode will end a run of 13 episodes on December 19, according to The Futon Critic.
So far the ratings for Terra Nova have held more-or-less steady. Yet, they might not be as high as Fox would have liked for such an expensive series. As of yesterday, Entertainment Weekly was reporting that the series had a 3.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic. The site described that as “a solid number — for just about any other show.”
It is too early to suggest that Fox is not happy with Terra Nova‘s performance, though. Fox had already committed to 13 episodes this year and was never likely to order more, according to the company’s entertainment president, Kevin Reilly.

We are at the tail end of a TV selling season that saw more bidding wars and production and put pilot commitments than I can remember, and that isn’t lost on the broadcast entertainment presidents. Survivor‘s Jeff Probst opened the discussion at the annual Hollywood Radio & Television Society network chiefs luncheon today by sharing that during his lunch with the executives before they took the stage, everyone was complaining about how crazy and out of whack this pitch season has been. Fox’s Kevin Reilly, who spoke his mind more than anyone else on the panel, quickly jumped in. “(NBC) got cash, (ABC) got competitive against that cash, and we took the bait,” is how Reilly summed up this year’s marketplace. “We all think we were played a little bit. Agents are doing very well this year as a result.” Reilly’s counterparts mostly agreed, though their responses were more measured.

After months of hearing Fox executives talk about the pilot for new series Touch (back in August, the network’s entertainment president Kevin Reilly called it “extraordinary”), here is the first trailer for the science-meets-spirituality drama starring Kiefer Sutherland, which will premiere in the spring. Like in his previous series, NBC’s Heroes, Touch creator Tim Kring tackles the premise that everything in the universe is interconnected. Sutherland plays a widower whose mute 11-year-old son possesses the ability to detect patterns that connect seemingly unrelated events. The trailer was first unveiled Tuesday at Mipcom, where Sutherland said that in contrast to his signature role on Fox’s 24, where he had to keep all the emotion back, his character on Touch is all about emotion, something that is on display in the trailer. Fox has not announced an exact launch date for Touch, but speculation is that the series would premiere...

The Simpsons has been on the air for 23 seasons, but this Spring could be it's last. THR is reporting that Fox is threatening to cancel the long-running animated show because of a pay dispute between News Corp.'s Fox and the six principle voice actors of the show. Fox execs are seeking a 45 percent salary cut, according to the report. If these demands are not met, the show will come to an end in the spring.
There have been a number of pay disputes with The Simpsons. In the past Fox has even said that they could replace current cast members with other voice actors if pay disputes don't get resolved. At this time, Fox had no comment about the pay cuts. The lead voice actors are paid $400,000 per episode under their current deal.

Fox has given the first full-season order of 2011-12 to its comedy "New Girl," which has earned some of the young season's best ratings for a new series.

The series revolves around dad Martin (Sutherland) who comes to the realization that his mute autistic son Jake (David Mazouz) has an extraordinary ability to pick up patterns between seemingly unrelated events. Using numbers, Martin must communicate with his son in order to uncover the true meaning behind the mysterious connections. More details after the jump. In addition to Sutherland and Mazouz, Touch also stars Gugu Mbatha-Raw (Undercovers) as a helpful social worker and Danny Glover as an academic and expert on gifted children. With a show as complex as "Fringe," fans can get lost if they miss just one episode. The entire universe of the show can literally change within the span of an hour, so you don't want to miss a moment. Fox president Kevin Reilly even noted that the network doesn't expect "Fringe's" audience to grow, because it's difficult to jump into this kind of story in the middle.

America's Most Wanted has been picked up by Lifetime. The network announced yesterday that it will be broadcasting the show's 25th season later this year. America's Most Wanted previously aired on Fox, but the network confirmed earlier this year that it had decided to cut back the series to just four two-hour specials. Speaking at the time, Fox's entertainment president Kevin Reilly explained that the show had been "economically getting to the place where it was not realistically viable". Lifetime has now announced that it has decided to pick up the series, which has helped to capture a number of criminals over the years. Lifetime's president Nancy Dubuc described (more)...

Fox Broadcasting entertainment president Kevin Reilly will give the keynote address Oct. 4 to headline the Media Mastermind presentations at Mipcom, the annual TV content confab that runs Oct. 3-6 in Cannes. Organizers said his speech will explore what it takes to develop and nurture successful television series and the challenges and opportunities of an evolving media landscape. Said Reilly: “Part of what I hope to do here is to discuss how to be mindful of the rules, but not fearful of breaking them. In this business, you need to know how to break the fundamentals and encourage a creator to go to the edge. Some of the best work comes when we break the rules.”...

Exclusive: Director-producer David Semel has joined Fox’s 13-part docu-series Cosmos: A Space-Time Odyssey, which is executive produced by Seth MacFarlane. Additionally, I hear the project, a sequel to Carl Sagan’s groundbreaking 1980 series, will also get a film treatment with an IMAX release. Semel is slated to direct all 13 episodes of the series as well as the related Cosmos feature. He also is expected to serve as an executive producer alongside MacFarlane, Sagan’s widow Ann Druyan and Mitchell Cannold, president of the Ithaca, NY-based Cosmos Studio, which will produce the series for Fox, with a second window on National Geographic. MacFarlane conceived the Cosmos redo with Sagan’s original collaborators – writer/producer Druyan and astrophysicist Steven Soter, with renowned astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson stepping in for Sagan as new host. Like the 1980s series, which featured jaw-dropping for its time visual effects that allowed Sagan to walk through space,...

Out actress and track-suited star of Glee, Jane Lynch, will be hosting this year's 63rd Primetime Emmy Awards, making her only the second lesbian, after Ellen DeGeneres, to run the biggest award event in television.
On a recent conference call, Lynch fielded questions about what we can expect to see, why she's a better choice to host than Sue Sylvester, and how she'd like to add the cast of Glee to the show. I would pay good money to see Brittana sing all the nominees' names.
Question: You're nominated yourself [for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy]. Do you think that's going to affect your nerves on the night?
Jane Lynch: I think my nerves will mostly be focused towards doing the show. It's almost a relief not to have to think about having been nominated. I'm although very, very honored to be nominated and especially honored to be in the group that I'm in.

Glee co-creator and executive producer Ryan Murphy used to worry about how fans would react to the introduction of new characters to the show’s merry band of musical high-school outcasts. But as he plans Season 3 of Fox’s smash hit — including a long-envisioned “endgame,” a graduation strategy for New Directions’ senior classmen, and a fresh crop of young talent (including one warbler from his new Oxygen reality series The Glee Project) — Murphy says he’s put those worries behind him. ”It’s all about the stories and characters,” says Murphy. “It’s our job to find new [stars] that people will love,...

Fox may not have a pilot shot for Touch, the new series starring 24 star Kiefer Sutherland, but the network is already calling the series “extraordinary.”
Network president Kevin Reilly stated that the pilot will be shot in June, after Sutherland’s appearance on Broadway concludes. However, it has already picked up the series and plans to schedule the “show opportunistically,” according to Reilly.
Reilly said: “Touch was a really extraordinary script, a compelling drama, that stars Kiefer Sutherland as a father whose world changes when he discovers that his child with special needs has the ability to see patterns and connections that no-one else can.”
Regarding bringing Kiefer back to Fox after his work on 24, the president later added, “The script blew us away, getting Kiefer back to the network was something… we think this could be really special.”...

Fox's entertainment president Kevin Reilly has explained the decision to reduce America's Most Wanted. The network announced its 2011-2012 season earlier today and it emerged that America's Most Wanted will air just four two-hour specials over the year. "We're going to transition Amw next year into quarterly specials, evolving our relationship with [host] John Walsh," Reilly told reporters. He later added: "John Walsh has been a very important guy to the network for a long time. It's been an important show for us historically. "But it's no secret to John we have not made money on the show for quite a while. It was economically getting to the place where it was not realistically viable but we wanted to keep the franchise alive. John is important to News Corp, he's having a number of conversations. "Most Wanted" is apparently now a bit of an overstatement.
After well over 1,000 episodes -- and leading to the capture of just as many criminals -- the "America's Most Wanted" era is ending at Fox.
The network announced the news during a call with reporters after releasing a schedule with its notable (partial) absence.
Host and executive producer John Walsh will instead warn viewers of evil-doers in four quarterly two-hour specials, with repeats of other Fox series following an hour-block of "Cops" in its old 9:00 p.m. Et spot on Saturday nights.
"It's been an important show for us historically," Fox entertainment president Kevin Reilly said to reporters on the programming call. "We haven't made money on the show in quite awhile. It wasn't particularly viable."
"America's Most Wanted" has been on the air since 1988. Will you miss it?...

Fox's entertainment president Kevin Reilly has suggested that some of the shows that have recently been cancelled could have survived on different networks. Earlier this month, it emerged that Fox had dropped its shows Breaking In, Traffic Light, The Chicago Code, Human Target and Lie To Me. Speaking on a press call following the release of Fox's 2011-2012 schedule, Reilly claimed that Fox performed relatively well this season, pointing to the success of new comedy Raising Hope. "First of all, a couple of shows we cancelled were sophomore shows, they were not from our freshman crop," he said. "We are one of the few networks that are bringing back a success from last season, Raising Hope. It was not one of the bumper crop years for network television... Fox's entertainment president Kevin Reilly has suggested that Terra Nova is one of the network's most "ambitious" projects ever. The series focuses on a family who travel back to prehistoric times in an experiment to try to save the human race from extinction. "It is one of the most ambitious undertakings we've been involved with," he said. "[There are] 250 visual effects in the first two hours alone. An exotic backdrop - we're shooting halfway around the world in Cleveland, Australia. And [there's] a storyline that's set both 140 years in the future, and 85 million years in the past."
