Exclusive: French sales champion says he has “no intention” of leaving the company he helped build.
Wild Bunch co-chief Vincent Maraval has denied persistent rumours he is on the verge of departing the Paris-based film company he helped found more than 15 years ago.
The veteran sales champion has been heavily involved in the setting up of Wild Bunch’s Los Angeles-based offshoot Insiders and related sales outfit Imr – a joint venture between Insiders and MadRiver Pictures – over the last 18 months.
His resulting absence from Wild Bunch’s Paris HQ has stoked suggestions that he may be planning to cut loose from the company and transfer to Los Angeles. But speaking to Screen during the Afm, Maraval said nothing could be further from the truth.
“It’s normal that when you launch a new activity, you dedicate extra time to it,” said Maraval. “It’s true, I’m spending more time in Los Angeles than Paris at the...

First title destined for e-distribution slate is Eli Roth’s The Green Inferno. Company will be on hunt for suitable titles at the Afm.
Following the success of its VOD-only release of Welcome to New York earlier this year, Wild Bunch is poised to launch Europe’s first pan-European e-distribution operation.
Taking inspiration from the innovative models of Us distributors such as RADiUS, A24 and the IFC, the e-distribution operation will propose films either directly to different VOD services, or when legislation allows, simultaneously via VOD and in theatres.
“We wouldn’t be doing this if the release of Welcome to New York had not been a success and we weren’t convinced of the potential of this market,” said Wild Bunch co-founder Vincent Maraval.
Aside from the performance of Welcome to New York, which clocked some 200,000 downloads in six weeks, the company is also basing it plans on the results of the European Commission’s media...

The prospect of a horror movie filmed in one continuous shot is a herculean feat to say the least. La Casa Muda, aka Silent House, the first Latin American film to be shot entirely with a professional photo camera that also happened to be filmed in one single 80-minute sequence shot, achieved this feat. So of course we have to remake it here!
According to Screen Daily French sales outfit Elle Driver is moving into full-on financing with an English-language reimagining of the Uruguayan horror film Silent House.
The Us film will be directed by Chris Kentis and Laura Lau, the team behind the chilling shark tale Open Water. The original Silent House, which ran in Cannes Directors Fortnight this year, was directed by Gustavo Hernandez and told in 80 minutes of “real time” during one continuous take.

Wes Anderson is one of the few directors who, for my money, is still batting a thousand. While some would argue that none of his films have come close to the groundbreaking Rushmore. I would argue back that those people have not seen last year’s Darjeeling Limited. But here we are, one year later without much Wes news...until now. Variety reports that Universal Pictures and Imagine Entertainment has set Wes Anderson to write “My Best Friend,” a remake of the 2006 Patrice Leconte-directed French comedy “Mon meilleur ami.” Anderson is also eying the project as a directing vehicle. Brian Grazer and Agnes Mentre will produce. Rosalie Swedlin will be executive producer. The French pic starred Daniel Auteuil as a cranky antiques dealer who learns at a dinner with his closest acquaintances that none of them really like him because of his harsh manner and selfishness. United Artists has recruited Timothy J. Sexton to pen Timecrimes, the adaptation of Nacho Vigalondo's Spanish-language film Los Cronocrimenes.
Steven Zaillian and Agnes Metre are producing the feature, a noirish thriller about a man who travels back in time half an hour to prevent a serious crime. UA picked up the remake rights back in January, when the original film -- for which Magnolia holds the U.S. distribution rights -- played the Sundance Film Festival.
Sexton, repped by Endeavor, scored the sought-after assignment on the strength of his work on the feature Children of Men, nominated for an Academy Award, and TV projects like HBO's Live From Baghdad.

Miramax Films has prebought from Pathe the North American and Latin American distribution rights to Bend It Like Beckham director Gurinder Chadha's untitled Bollywood musical. Based on Jane Austen's classic novel Pride and Prejudice, the film will star Martin Henderson (The Ring) and Bollywood superstar Aishwarya Rai and will be set in India, London and Los Angeles. It is being produced by Deepak Nayar and is set to begin production in July. "This promises to be a spectacular musical and visual production," Miramax co-chairman Harvey Weinstein said. "We're thrilled to be in business with Pathe and a director as talented as Gurinder, who I've admired for some time." Writer-director Chadha, whose Beckham has already earned more than $11 million domestically, hopes the film will resonate with American audiences unfamiliar with the genre. "My intention with this film is to introduce Bollywood cinema with a British twist to all the towns and cities and the heart of people across America," he said. The untitled Bollywood musical was brought into Miramax by execs Agnes Mentre, Colin Vaines and Maeva Gatineau.
