Criminal Minds: Evolution is poised to be another thrilling season of the successful reboot.
Paramount+ has unveiled the official trailer for the next chapter of the hit original series, and it looks like the Bau will be pushed to the limit to keep everyone safe.
In the wake of last season’s shocking finale, Criminal Minds: Evolution Season 2 finds the profilers investigating the deadly mystery of Gold Star.
“As the conspiracy unfolds, the Behavioral Analysis Unit (Bau) is met with an unexpected complication when serial killer Elias Voit negotiates a deal that transfers him to federal custody in the Bau’s own backyard,” the logline teases.
“The team faces its biggest threat yet and cannot emerge unscathed from the mind-bending consequences.”

Criminal Minds fans have something to celebrate this week. Paramount+ has confirmed the wildly popular spinoff, Criminal Minds Evolution will be back with all new episodes before we know it. Prentiss, JJ, Garcia & Co will be back in action on the streaming giant this spring. Here’s everything we know so far, Criminal Minds spoilers ahead.
Criminal Minds Evolution debuted on the Paramount streaming giant in early 2022. The spinoff followed the original series, which ended on CBS in 2020. Unlike a lot of today’s spinoffs and reboots, Evolution (also referred to as Criminal Minds Season 16) featured a lot of the original cast members, which is why critics believe it did so well for a reboot.

Fan faves Joe Mantegna, Aj Cook, Paget Brewster, and Kristen Vangsness all returned as members of the FBI’s Behavioral Analysis Unit.

The Bau is getting an assist from a Desperate Housewives alum.
TVLine reports that Felicity Huffman has closed a deal to guest star during Criminal Minds: Evolution Season 2, and her character has ties to the original series.
Huffman is playing Dr. Jill Gideon, described as “a brilliant biological psychiatrist who winds up helping the FBI’s Behavioral Analysis Unit investigate a murderous conspiracy theory.”
If that surname sounds familiar, it’s because she’s the wife of Jason Gideon (Mandy Patinkin), so she has plenty of ties to the team.
Jill isn’t too fond of getting involved with the Bau because of her past, which concludes a “complicated history” with David Rossi (Joe Mantegna).
However, her expertise is needed because the team is struggling to crack open the Gold Star mystery.

Exclusive: Fifth Season is selling more than $1B worth of Apple TV+ content including Jason Momoa-starrer See, Nicole Kidman’s Roar and M. Night Shyamalan’s Servant at the London TV Screenings.
Prentiss Fraser, Fifth Season’s president of TV distribution, said the move realizes the outfit’s long-term strategy of landing big streamer shows that can then be sold in their second window to smaller buyers.
She said there is “little crossover” between Apple TV+ subscribers and regular linear broadcast viewers in crucial territories, which highlights the opportunities for second window. The UK, for example, is estimated to have around 2 million Apple TV+ subs – just 3% of the population.

This article contains spoilers for the Criminal Minds: Evolution season 1 finale.
Police procedural drama Criminal Minds has captivated fans since its debut in 2005. The cancellation of the original series on CBS in 2020 didn’t stop fans from desperately wishing the show would return, which it did two years later under a new title, Criminal Minds: Evolution.
The first season of the Paramount+ reboot wrapped up on a high note as FBI agents Emily Prentiss (Paget Brewster), David Rossi (Joe Mantegna), Jennifer “JJ” Jareau (A.J. Cook), Tara Lewis (Aisha Tyler), Luke Alvez (Adam Rodriguez), and Penelope Garcia (Kirsten Vangsness) worked against the clock to rescue Rossi and to locate the one of the worst serial killers the Bau had ever seen, Elias Voit (Zach Gilford) a.k.a. Sicarius, a.k.a Lee Duval – his birth name. Throughout the season we saw how Voit not only added to his body count...

One season of Criminal Minds: Evolution down, at least one more to go. The Bau may have just caught Sicarius (Zach Gilford’s Elias Voit), but they’ll be back for a 17th season, to deal with whatever Gold Star is as well as likely another hybrid of a recurring UnSub and standalone cases. And, as the series did quite well this past season, we’ll continue to see the team’s lives away from hunting down those bad guys. Showrunner Erica Messer teases what’s ahead, including a love triangle, team leader, and more. At the end of the original series’ run, you’d said you’d love to see Prentiss (Paget Brewster) possibly being nominated as the first female director of the FBI in five years’ time. Given the timing, is that something we might see a Season 17, her starting on that path or thinking if she even wants that?...

Is Criminal Minds: Evolution Season 1 Episode 9 the first time Criminal Minds has been without a quote?
Elias said, "The Latin phrase Memento Mori translates to 'Remember that you must die.' Roman slaves whispered it to their generals to keep them from being consumed by hubris." That's as close as we got to a quote this week.
It fit the episode perfectly.
If they hadn't started the episode with that reflection of hubris, it would have been difficult to stomach the good guys' mistakes, which led to Rossi in a bunker and Tyler getting shot.
Those two men went above and beyond hubris in their quest to prove something to themselves.
As expected, Rossi's meet-n-greet with Sydney Voit was bountiful.
Sydney didn't have to lie about whether the man at the hardware store was her husband. She was so thrown that she just wanted to know where it was.
But before we get into that,...

Isn't there a rule somewhere that you can't keep kicking when your opponent is already down?
Criminal Minds: Evolution Season 1 Episode 7 found the Bau's newly reinstated access to the jet rescinded again.
The constant barrage from higher-ups against the Bau needs to stop.
It's true that the Bau's resources are pooled against their most significant threat.
They've rarely come up against a mastermind the likes of Sicarius, and with his extended reach, it's not out of the question for them to be so concerned.
His reach is so expansive that seemingly unrelated cases can also be under his influence, which makes hunting him and stopping him the number one priority for the Bau.
Every case but one that the team has investigated so far this season had ties to Sicarius. Believing the brothers from Criminal Minds: Evolution Season 1 Episode 4 might have been urged into action by Sicarius wasn't a stretch,...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Criminal Minds: Evolution Season 16 Episode 6 “True Conviction.”] The Sicarius case takes a turn when Criminal Minds: Evolution returns from its midseason break — and fortunately (and unsurprisingly), that’s not because the Bau loses any of its profilers. In the aftermath of the explosion, not only do we get Voit’s (Zach Gilford) backstory, but the FBI also begins figuring out just who it is they’re after running this network of serial killers. Plus, as one of the team makes a connection, another might be losing her happiness. Read on for the highlights of the midseason premiere. Bau 1, Sicarius 0? After the rest of the team scrambles to reach JJ (Aj Cook) and Luke (Adam Rodriguez), caught up in the explosion in Sicarius’ shipping container, they finally get their jet back. Oh, it’s so good to hear Prentiss (Paget Brewster) say “wheels up.” JJ and Luke are ...

Wheels up! Who thought that would be a saying we'd miss so dearly?
It's been so long since the last episode that I'd forgotten about the explosion by the time Criminal Minds: Evolution Season 1 Episode 6 dropped.
But this catastrophe is the first clue that things may get back to normal again if anyone can remember what normal was like anymore.
After almost losing two of her team, Prentiss finally stood up to Bailey.
Douglas, it's time.

It was such a simple thought that Prentiss delivered beautifully. Bailey had no choice but to get on board (pun intended!).
Part of the reason Bailey isn't on board and behind the Bau as he should be is that he's not a field agent. From how he acts, I'd be shocked to learn he's ever spent significant time in the field.

Like other long-running procedural series, "Criminal Minds" is an institution of network television. After an admirable fifteen seasons on CBS, the series was given a new life by Paramount+ -- one of the quickest revivals in television history -- with "Criminal Minds: Evolution," which premiered in November 2022. While it may not be the longest-standing procedural nor the most critically acclaimed, "Criminal Minds" has one big thing going for it: a legion of dedicated fans who live for the show's twisted action.
For viewers who've watched every episode without fail, the appeal of "Criminal Minds" is twofold. Of course, there's the killer-of-the-week mystery. But then there are the characters -- a team who acts more like a family – who we continue to root for as the seasons continue. Unfortunately, the lineup at the Bau has changed several times over the years, which is one of the things that make each season vary in quality.

Criminal Minds: Evolution showrunner Erica Messer told TV Insider that “it’s gonna take a real big thing to happen for us to get [the jet] back,” and as the sneak peek Paramount+ has released from the January 12 midseason premiere, that’s exactly what’s happened. Last we saw the Bau, they had a lead on Sicarius (Zach Gilford’s Voit), though they have yet to identify him, and JJ (A.J. Cook) and Luke (Adam Rodriguez) were checking out his underground storage container when there was an explosion. Those back at the office — Prentiss (Paget Brewster), Rossi (Joe Mantegna), Garcia (Kirsten Vangsness), Lewis (Aisha Tyler), and even Bailey (Nicholas D’Agosto) — could only watch in horror as they lost the feed from their body cameras. Now, in the clip (which you can watch below) shared on Twitter, everyone’s trying to find a way to reach ...

Emily Prentiss has been on the periphery of the action so far, largely controlling things when it comes to Deputy Director Bailey.
On Criminal Minds: Evolution Season 1 Episode 5, she did a fair amount of controlling and also eased back into the field.
It's great seeing her in action again.
When Bailey wanted to kick Rossi out of his leadership position, he thought it would be a boon for his management.
Instead, Prentiss decided to tackle two roles, one as a bureaucrat and the other as a federal agent in charge and in the field.
This was the perfect case for her to spread her wings again. It was tailor-made for her strengths and allowed her to dig at Bailey.

After fifteen seasons and 324 episodes, the long-running crime procedural series Criminal Minds came to an end in 2020… but it didn’t take long for rumblings of a revival to emerge. That revival has taken the form of Criminal Minds: Evolution, and Paramount+ have released the first trailer for the upcoming series.
Criminal Minds: Evolution sees the return of Joe Mantegna as David Rossi, Adam Rodriguez as Luke Alvez, A.J. Cook as Jennifer “JJ” Jareau, Aisha Tyler as Tara Lewis, Paget Brewster as Emily Prentiss, and Kirsten Vangsness as Penelope Garcia. This time around, the Behavioral Analysis Unit will be going up against “their greatest threat yet,” a network of serial killers who have been recruited during the pandemic by Elias Volt (Zach Gilford), an operations analyst at a global cybersecurity firm with a dark side and an obsession with death.

This time around, the Behavioral Analysis Unit will be going up against “their greatest threat yet,” a network of serial killers who have been recruited during the pandemic by Elias Volt (Zach Gilford), an operations analyst at a global cybersecurity firm with a dark side and an obsession with death.

Very few procedural crime dramas have stood the test of time — the CBS series "Criminal Minds" concluded its incredible 15-season run in 2020 and has already received a revival order from the streamer Paramount+. Like showrunner-producer-writer Erica Messer said during the Television Critics Tour (via Deadline), the team behind "Criminal Minds" never wanted the show to end, and now they're coming back.
The crime drama told the story of a group of accomplished criminal profilers who worked for the FBI's Behavioral Analysis Unit and used their expertise to unearth the country's most dangerous minds, anticipating their next move before they could strike once again. The "Criminal Minds" revival, titled "Criminal Minds: Evolution," has already created an incredible buzz with audiences, thanks to six original cast members who are returning for the show. In August 2022, Paramount+ shared the revival's official title and some cast details about what to look forward to, and...

Said Bau team is comprised of veteran cast members Paget Brewster (as Prentiss), Joe Mantegna (Rossi), A.J. Cook (JJ), Kirsten Vangsness (Garcia), Aisha Tyler (Tara) and Adam Rodriguez (Luke).

After being in development hell for such a long time time, the production on Criminal Minds: Evolution is moving at a quick pace.
Paramount+ has unveiled four photos that are taken from the first two episodes back, and we are very excited about what's to come.
While the show had a series finale on CBS, the universe still had plenty of storytelling directions to take the characters.
Now, we're getting our wish.
"The FBI’s elite team of criminal profilers come up against their greatest threat yet, an UnSub who has used the pandemic to build a network of other serial killers," reads the logline for the 10-episode series.
"Now, as the world opens back up, the network goes operational, and our team must hunt them down, one murder at a time."
The confirmed returning cast is Paget Brewster (as Prentiss), Joe Mantegna (Rossi), A.J. Cook (JJ), Kirsten Vangsness (Garcia...

[Jackson, Mississippi, is still recovering from a water crisis that left approximately 150,000 people without safe drinking water, a cruel reminder of decades-long structural issues facing a predominantly Black city. Interviews for this story were conducted in the spring.]
Talk to scene makers in Jackson, Mississippi, like Brad “Kamikaze” Franklin and you’ll hear a lot of evangelism about how the “birthplace of American music,” as the state bills itself, is continually overlooked as a breeding ground for hip-hop talent.
Franklin, who recorded as one-half of the hip-hop duo Crooked Lettaz with David Banner in the early aughts, points to Snoop Dogg, Rick Ross and the late Nate Dogg — all of whom have ties to the state — to illustrate his point. But he could go on. In recent years,...

The Bau is back on the case. The all-star FBI team is reuniting for the upcoming Criminal Minds reboot, aptly titled Criminal Minds: Evolution, and are sharing so many details on the 10-episode Paramount+ series that it should be criminal. When the series begins, showrunner Erica Messer explains, all of our favorites are "in a very different place" than when the original show ended in Feb. 2020. "We've got Prentiss (Paget Brewster), who has now been promoted outside of the Bau unit chief. She has a new position where she oversees dozens of units," Messer shared in interview with Entertainment Weekly published Sept. 13. "Rossi (Joe...

The long-gestating revival of Criminal Minds is finally moving forward, and we have a first look to prove it.
Paget Brewster took to social media this week to reveal that production is officially underway, complete with a photo.
"Oh, hi Guys," Brewster began in her post.
"This is my first @criminalminds hair and make up from this morning…. I hope you’re all excited for a slightly older, sassier, no filters, grey-haired Prentiss."
"And if you aren’t, that’s cool, just tell someone else."
Brewster has been with the series since Criminal Minds Season 2 back in 2006, and has been a firm fan favorite ever since.
The star was effectively written out during Criminal Minds Season 8, but went on to return as a series regular from Criminal Minds Season 12.
Brewster has been vocal about embracing grey hair, revealing in July that "I like my grey hair."

The Criminal Minds revival is a go, but don't expect things to go smoothly when our favorite members of the Bau unite to solve crimes.
TV Line dropped some insider knowledge about the 10-part new season, and we're a bit worried about Prentiss (Paget Brewster).
"I am hearing that in the Paramount+ revival, Prentiss’ role as team leader will be challenged by a new deputy director who doesn’t quite share her view on how best to run the Bau," the outlet shared in response to a fan's question.
It wouldn't be Criminal Minds without some drama, and we're sure fans won't warm up to the new deputy director.
If you watch Criminal Minds online, you know Prentiss has been a pivotal component of the team's success over the years.
Without knowing what's happened between the original series finale and where the revival picks up, it's hard to tell what...

Chadwick Boseman, Norm Macdonald and Jessica Walter each received posthumous 2022 Emmy nominations.
Boseman, who passed away in 2020 after a private battle with colon cancer, earned a best character voice-over nod for his role as Star Lord T’Challa in the Marvel Studios and Disney+ series What If…? episode “What If… T’Challa Became A Star-Lord?” He was also nominated for a posthumous Oscar for lead actor for his role in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom. Boseman’s legacy remains inseparable from mainstream culture — his breakout work in Black Panther helped propel that film to become the first superhero movie ever nominated for best picture at the Academy Awards. The film’s sequel, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, is scheduled for release later this year, with Ryan Coogler returning to direct.
Macdonald’s nom comes from his final comedy special, Nothing Special, which debuted on Netflix.
