Stan and James previously played Tommy Lee and Pamela Anderson in “Pam & Tommy,” exploring their tumultuous relationship in the ’90s. Tafdrup wrote and directed the 2022 grim thriller Speak No Evil and serves as executive producer on the remake heading to theaters this summer.

“Pam & Tommy” stars Sebastian Stan and Lily James will reunite to star in psychological horror thriller “Let the Evil Go West.”
The film sounds very different from Stan and James’ previous collaboration, which saw them playing Tommy Lee and Pamela Anderson in a Hulu mini-series. In “Let the Evil Go West,” a railroad worker stumbles upon a fortune under deeply disturbing circumstances. As horrifying visions and manifestations drive him toward madness, his wife becomes convinced that an evil presence has attached itself to their family.
Christian Tafdrup is set to direct from a screenplay by Xc Vs. The film is produced by Tim and Trevor White (“King Richard”) under their Star Thrower Entertainment banner, Mark Fasano and Nathan Klingher for Gramercy Park Media, which is also financing the film, and Allan Mandelbaum. Stan and James will also executive produce along with Gramercy Park’s Joshua Harris and Ford Corbett and north.five.six.

Ethan Hawke reveals what Denzel Washington said to him the night Hawke lost his ‘Training Day’ Oscar
The year was 2002 and Ethan Hawke was up for the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for his work in “Training Day.” When Marcia Gay Harden read Jim Broadbent’s name, winning for “Iris,” Hawke’s co-star Denzel Washington whispered something in his ear.
It wasn’t “boom!” As Hawke revealed in a recent interview, Washington – who had already won an Oscar for “Glory” and would win a second that very night – said, “It’s better that you didn’t win. Losing was better.”
Hawke, who would go on to get three more Oscar nominations for acting (“Boyhood”) as well as screenwriting, expanded what Washington meant. “You don’t want an award to improve your status. You want to improve the award’s status,” he said. “That’s the way he thinks. That’s what I’m talking about playing with Babe Ruth. The Academy Award has more power, because Denzel has a couple.

It was the year 1997 when Will Smith was introduced to the world of aliens alongside Tommy Lee Jones with the release of Men in Black. Being one of the most iconic franchises out there, the world loved the duo of Lee Jones and Smith as Agent K and Agent J, respectively.
With both actors bringing their best in the characters of K and J, people feel that Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith are irreplaceable. After trying to replace them once, the film became a failure. Well, there are rumors that the franchise is once again going to attempt a Men in Black film without Will Smith or Tommy Lee Jones, and the people… aren’t happy.

After this year’s Dune fever, it seems that featuring the names of Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya on the posters is enough to get people buying movie tickets. The Chani actress' new romance drama completely proves it.
The movie’s plot centers on the characters, who are quite specific for the audience, as they are tennis players, so be sure that there will be a lot of aces, volleys, as well as broken rackets. However, luckily, that's not the main point of the movie.
Zendaya here plays Tashi, an ex-player, retired from the big sport after an injury, who is now married to a fading tennis champion (Mike Faist), coaching him and preparing his glowing comeback on the pedestal. The snag is that his future competitor for the gold (Josh O'Connor) is both his former best friend and Tashi’s ex-lover.

Chris Rock made a tasteless comment when he compared his Oscar-hosting situation with the late Nicole Brown Simpson case. Rock was at the receiving end of Will Smith’s infamous Oscar slap that landed the latter a decade-long ban from the Academy. So when Rock was asked to host the 2023 Awards, it was clearly too soon, and Rock’s reply analogy turned out to be a little controversial.
Fargo actor Chris Rock made a tasteless joke about Nicole Brown Simpson while discussing his Oscar-hosting gig
During one of his standup specials, Rock shared that the Academy offered him the Oscars host role the very next year after the Slap. He shared that asking him to host was just like asking Nicole Brown Simpson to revisit the evidence against O.J. Simpson.

Lionsgate may have pushed the release date of The Crow remake back from June 7th to August 23rd yesterday, but they still promoted the film during their panel at CinemaCon today, showing attendees a new trailer. We don’t know when that trailer is going to be making its way online, but JoBlo’s own Lance Vlcek was in attendance and reports that the new trailer reveals more about the film’s story.
Writing from the panel, Lance said attendees were told this version of The Crow is “a complete re-imagining that is not meant to compete with the original. The Lionsgate rep made mention how the original graphic novel is different than the beloved movie and made a point that the trailer was divisive, but they want to tell this story for a new generation.” As for what was shown in the new trailer, Lance writes, “An afterlife way-station...

CinemaCon is in full swing. Studios are unveiling some new exclusive pictures and information at upcoming projects. We’ve gotten first looks at movies like Beetlejuice Beetlejuice and trailers for Trap and The Joker: Folie à Deux. Some promotional materials have shown a look at Gladiator II and Wolverine’s new mask for Deadpool & Wolverine. Recently, Amazon MGM has revealed some new footage of the upcoming Christmas comedy Red One, which stars Dwayne Johnson, Chris Evans and J.K. Simmons.
Deadline reports on the ten minutes that Amazon has screened for the CinemaCon audience. First off, while this is a movie that has been set for Prime Video, the footage is said to be very theatrical and it is revealed that Red One will indeed be hitting theaters on November 15. Not much can be said by way of details as those who saw the footage are instructed to keep their lips sealed.

While Amazon MGM Studios didn’t take the stage at CinemaCon, they did meet with exhibitors and key press to strut their future theatrical slate, in particular they showed off ten minutes of the Dwayne Johnson and Chris Evans’ movie Red One. While we agree to keep mum about the details of the Santa Claus rescue movie, let’s just say the originally conceived for Prime Video title is definitely meant for theatrical, which is where it’s going on Nov. 15; the only wide release currently on that weekend.
Let’s just say that Red One is a fire-breathing Christmas action movie that completely reinvents the holiday genre. There hasn’t been a mass appealing Christmas tentpole in six years, the last being Illumination/Universal’s The Grinch which made over a half billion worldwide. After spending more than a decade in development hell, a remake of The Crow (watch it Here) has made its way through production and is set to receive a theatrical release, courtesy of Lionsgate, on June 7th. A couple weeks ago, we saw the first images of Bill Skarsgard and singer FKA twigs as the new versions of goth rocker Eric Draven and the love of his life, Shelly; images that didn’t go over well with original The Crow director Alex Proyas. Now we’ve been informed that a full trailer for the film will be released online tomorrow – and while we wait for that, a (very) short teaser has made its way online and can be seen in the embed above. In this teaser, we’re treated to the sight of Skarsgard writhing around in a thick liquid that’s presumably meant to be blood. And that’s it.

The 2024 Oscar nominees for Best Supporting Actress are Emily Blunt (“Oppenheimer”), Danielle Brooks (“The Color Purple”), America Ferrera (“Barbie”), Jodie Foster (“Nyad”), and Da’Vine Joy Randolph (“The Holdovers”). Our odds currently indicate that Randolph (3/1) will emerge victorious, followed in order of likelihood by Blunt (4/1), Brooks (4/1), Ferrera (9/2), and Foster (9/2).
The only one of these five actresses with any previous Oscar bids to her name is Foster, who is also this year’s oldest nominee by two full decades. Before she bagged two lead trophies for “The Accused” (1989) and “The Silence of the Lambs” (1992), she broke through at age 14 with a supporting mention for “Taxi Driver” (1977), becoming the seventh youngest Oscar-nominated performer at the time. If it feels like a new take on The Crow has been in development for 15 years, that's perhaps because a new take on The Crow has been in development for, well, 15 years at least. Yet after a revolving door of directors, writers and potential leads, it's finally headed our way this year, with Bill Skarsgård playing the tragic Eric Draven and Rupert Sanders directing. Check out the first images from the new adaptation of James O'Barr's graphic novel above and below.
O'Barr's original story focuses on Eric, a young man who, along with his fiancee Shelly, is brutally assaulted and slaughtered by a gang when their car breaks down. Eric is resurrected by a supernatural crow to stalk and seek vengeance against those responsible for the crime. Alex Proyas' 1994 film retooled the story around rock musician Eric Draven, who is murdered along with his fiancee Shelly on Devil's Night...

The Crow reboot will release in theaters on June 7, 2024, and Vanity Fair has shared three first-look images this morning that reveal Bill Skarsgård’s tattooed take on Eric Draven.
Director Rupert Sanders explains to Vanity Fair, “I think the beauty of Bill is that he has a disturbing beauty, and as he transforms through his loss he becomes this thing that even he can’t control. It’s that famous line: ‘Whoever fights monsters must be careful that they don’t become one.’ That look was me in the ’90s when we were squat-raving in London, [mixed with some modern influences] like Post Malone and Lil Peep. In some ways, Oppenheimer, Christopher Nolan’s biggest non-superhero movie, was a product of the pandemic. Until the winter of 2020, the director had been loyal to Warner Bros., and their logo was to be found on every film that Nolan either wrote, directed or produced.
While he was never formally tethered to that studio, Nolan had been monogamous as its cornerstone tentpole filmmaker, ever since his 1999 breakout indie film Memento led him to create Insomnia there.
That year, however, everything changed. The usually mild-mannered director was outraged by the decision of former WarnerMedia CEO Jason Kilar to perpetrate a blindside dumping of the studio’s entire slate onto its HBO Max streaming service. This attempt to build subscribers for its streaming service at a time few were going to theaters incensed Nolan and many others. The filmmaker was still wounded by the studio’s decision to release Tenet while the...

Without Valentine’s Day date nights to bolster grosses, ticket sales for “Bob Marley: One Love” fell sharply on Thursday.
The drama about the reggae legend earned $3.8 million in its second day of release, a 73% drop from its debut that brings its stateside total to $17.9 million. The Paramount release is hoping to hit the right notes over Presidents Day. It is projected to earn $30 million to $35 million over the six-day holiday stretch.
Its main competition is from Sony’s “Madame Web,” which is the studio’s latest attempt to expand its Spider-verse of Peter Parker-adjacent heroes and villains. Sony has had a mixed track record, scoring with the likes of “Venom” while falling flat with “Morbius.” “Madame Web” grossed $2.2 million its second day of release, bringing its domestic total to $8.2 million. The film should earn $26.8 million over the extended holiday period. Sony will try again in August with “Kraven the Hunter,...

Paramount’s “Bob Marley: One Love” stirred things up at the Valentine’s Day box office. The biopic about the reggae legend is outpacing estimates after opening to $14 million domestically. It added $4.9 million to its haul from 10 overseas markets, including the U.K., France and Spain. Its global gross stands at $19.4 million.
Those domestic numbers easily overshadow the opening of Sony’s “Madame Web,” the latest entry in the studio’s hit-and-miss, cinematic Spider-verse. The comic book adaptation generated a little over $6 million domestically.
“Bob Marley: One Love” was initially projected to collect $30 million to $35 million stateside between Wednesday and President’s Day on Monday. But unless the grosses are front-loaded, it could exceed those estimates. “Madame Web” is expected to generate $26 million during the same six-day period.

Will Smith as Blue Marvel after Fantastic Four confirm the 1960s setting?

Blue Marvel, aka Adam Brashear, gained his abilities after a scientific accident involving antimatter. Exclusive: Greenwich Entertainment has acquired U.S. rights to Copa 71, a documentary about the pioneering “Unofficial Women’s World Cup” that created a sensation in 1971 but has since been virtually erased from history. Rachel Ramsay and James Erskine (Billie) directed the film, which is executive produced by tennis greats Serena and Venus Williams and soccer star Alex Morgan.
Greenwich plans a summer theatrical release of the documentary, a co-production of New Black Films, Dogwoof, and Westbrook Studios.
“In August 1971, soccer teams from England, Argentina, Mexico, France, Denmark, and Italy gathered at Mexico City’s sun-drenched Azteca Stadium,” notes a synopsis of the film. “The scale of the tournament was monumental: lavish sponsorship, extensive TV coverage, merchandise on every street corner, and crowds of over 100,000 roaring fans turn this historic stadium into a cauldron of noise match after match.”
The synopsis continues, “A fawning media treat the players like rock stars.

Roses are red, violets are blue, two new movies will open in theaters on Valentine’s Day, but neither are expected to break through.
Paramount’s musical biopic “Bob Marley: One Love” is projected to collect $30 million to $35 million between Wednesday and President’s Day on Monday. Those ticket sales should be enough to lead over Sony’s comic book adventure “Madame Web,” which looks to generate $22 million to $25 million during the same six-day period.
Given the budgets of each film — “Bob Marley” cost $70 million and “Madame Web” cost $80 million, not including marketing — those aren’t especially encouraging estimates. Even worse, those anemic figures span six days, not the traditional three-day weekend.
The presence of two new offerings will be a welcome boost for cinemas. But it won’t be enough to revive the domestic box office as it remains down 15% from 2023. Comparisons to last year will be tough because...

Over the last decade or two, we’ve seen the Hollywood biographical drama — once the cheesiest of genres, though often an irresistible one — mature as a popular art form. The key evolution, dating back to films like “Capote” and “Lincoln” (and extending through “Oppenheimer”), was the decision to ditch the old cradle-to-grave sprawl in favor of focusing on a crucial time period of someone’s life — a strategy that allows for more texture and truth.
“Bob Marley: One Love,” a drama about the most larger-than-life of all reggae superstars, ardently follows the new biopic rules. The film opens in 1976, when Bob Marley (Kingsley Ben-Adir), lean and majestic in his bouncing dreadlocks, heading toward the height of his fame, is getting ready to play a peace concert in Kingston. His goal is to heal the violent factionalism of Jamaican politics. It’s an uphill battle. The Jamaica we see is a...

In 1976, Bob Marley was the most famous person in Jamaica. He was also a marked man. The star had agreed to play a free concert dubbed “Smile Jamaica.” He’d even written a theme song for the event. Though the show was conceived as a way to quell the rising tide of violence over the island nation’s precarious political state, Marley’s involvement made many think that it was his way of tacitly endorsing the People’s National Party over the more conservative Jamaica Labour Party. Two days before the concert,...

Director Reinaldo Marcus Green and first time feature writer Zach Baylin offer a twist on more traditional biopics by viewing the story of Venus and Serena Williams through the prism of their family. To the fore is Will Smith as the family's patriarch, who was a man with the ultimate plan - that his girls would go down in tennis history. It is a truth universally acknowledged (or at least it should be by now) that America is a country founded upon — as well as cursed, colonized, and fertilized by — a bedrock of racism that continues to this day. Should you be unable to wrap your head around that in 2024, we’re not sure what to say to you. But to chalk up modern social inequity and state-sanctioned violence against certain communities to being “merely” a racially-biased phenomenon and simply leave it at that is insufficient. There’s something deeper going...

“This goes beyond scholarship. This is a lived life for me,” said Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor of playing journalist Isabel Wilkerson in “Origin,” Ava DuVernay’s latest film that both brings the ideas from Pulitzer Prize winner’s 2020 book “Caste,” and the behind the scenes hardships Wilkerson faced while writing it, to movie theaters nationwide on January 19.
Speaking to IndieWire over Zoom, Ellis-Taylor used a moment over the holidays in her native Mississippi to describe the ways in which she challenges the pillars of caste Wilkerson writes about in her book, like terror and cruelty, in her everyday life. “I’ll put it like this: I wanted some catfish,” said the Oscar-nominated “King Richard” actress. However, upon entering the Hattiesburg establishment best known for the southern delicacy, she noticed the state flag on display was the pre-2020 one that still had the Confederate flag incorporated into its design.

2023’s big sports biopic is here, and it’s a great time to put on your sports cap and spend some energy feeling motivated by the film. Now, we all know it’s not going to last, so have fun while it does. Nyad tells the inspiring story of long-distance swimmer Diana Nyad (as you may have guessed) on her big adventure of swimming the 110-mile course from Cuba to Key West, Florida. The film is mostly lighthearted and focuses on the teamwork that is required to achieve such a feat. As is common in the biopic world, the sports film stars an ensemble lead cast, with Annette Bening playing the role of relentless swimmer, Diana Nyad while Jodie Foster gets into the skin of her life-long best friend and coach, Bonnie Stoll. It’s rare to see a film that is solely focused on the activities of a woman...
