After selling out 12 nights at Los Angeles’ Wiltern Theatre for Netflix Is a Joke Fest, Ali Wong capped off her residency on Sunday night by opening up about her divorce and newfound dating life in her 40s to an enlivened audience.
Back in April 2022, the comedian announced she was splitting from her husband of eight years, Justin Hakuta. Even though she’s now publicly dating fellow comedian Bill Hader, Wong used her new stand-up routine to discuss and poke fun at her trials and tribulations as a single mother on the dating scene.

Golden Globe-winning actress Ali Wong’s recent makeup session didn’t go as planned. The actress poked a little fun at her latest makeup look in a new Instagram video.
The actress shared a selfie clip, filmed backstage before the opening night of her Los Angeles residency at The Wiltern. Wong said that her glam wasn’t quite what she expected, reports People magazine.
“I do my own makeup to save time and money,” she explained in the clip. “I forgot my eyebrow pencil, so I had to make do with this kinda reddish-brown eyeliner that I applied to my eyebrows.”
While talking to the camera, Wong leaned her face closer to show off her brows, which are a different colour from her dark hair.
As per People, the comedian found humour in the situation, adding: “I think it looks kinda crazy. I look like an X-Men villain.”

Norris Wong is a multifaceted Hong Kong artist known for her roles as a director, screenwriter, novelist, and lyricist. Her debut feature film, “My Prince Edward” (2019) – crafted with support from the First Feature Film Initiative (Fffi) scheme – has garnered acclaim, securing various awards such as the 4th First Feature Film Initiative (Higher Education Institution Group), Best New Director at the 39th Hong Kong Film Awards, and Best Screenplay at the 26th Hong Kong Film Critics Society Awards. If “My Prince Edward” can be described as the story of a failing relationship, her second feature “The Lyricist Wannabe” is yet another tale of a failed dream, surprisingly inspired by Wong's own life.

Deadpool’s upcoming threequel film Deadpool & Wolverine is the MCU’s hope at redemption. And the franchise is leaving no stone unturned to capture as much hype as possible before the release, which is scheduled just a few months away. With the two characters being highly popular, fan theories are bound to pop up all over the internet. And an X-Men theory has caught more fire after the release of a new trailer.
A still from MCU’s Deadpool & Wolverine
The new trailer shows Deadpool and Wolverine jumping through a portal in a brief shot, which looks similar to the ones conjured by sorcerers like Doctor Strange and Wong. It might be the connection fans have been looking for, for the long-awaited union of MCU with the 20th Century Fox’s X-Men movies.

After receiving over 10,000 applications in their nationwide search for a new guitarist, the Smashing Pumpkins revealed Friday the newest member of their band: Social media-famous guitarist Kiki Wong.

Smashing Pumpkins have named Kiki Wong as their new touring guitarist.
Following the departure of longtime guitarist Jeff Schroeder last October, frontman Billy Corgan put out an open call for his replacement. The band received more than 10,000 applicants, which Corgan then whittled down to a group of finalists who auditioned in-person in Los Angeles last month. He settled on Wong, a veteran guitarist who has performed with the likes of Taylor Swift, Usher, and Bret Michaels, as well as with rock bands Nylon Pink, Hellfire Heart, and currently, Vigil of War.

“Reviewing the work of these incredible musicians was a herculean, albeit worthy effort,” Corgan said in a statement. “First off, I really want to thank everyone who submitted materials for consideration. It wasn’t an easy decision with how much great guitar playing we were lucky enough to hear and see over the past few months.

‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ trailer recently dropped and fans are over the moon. The trailer showed (and confirmed) some of the cameos and variants set to appear in the movie. It referenced some neat stuff from the comics, and at one point we even saw Deadpool & Wolverine using Strange’s Sling Ring to presumably escape.
A Sling Ring is a small mystical ring worn on two fingers that has the ability to create a dimensional gateway to another location or even a different dimension. It was created specifically for the MCU and it is used by Doctor Strange and other masters of mystical arts, so how did Deadpool come across it?
Well, Deadpool likely stole it from someone else, and if Cosmic Circus’ Alex Perez is right, Cassandra Nova herself stole it from a variant of Doctor Strange who was Sorcerer Supreme of that reality.
Well, she isn’t a Sorceror Supreme.

The ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ trailer just came out and fans are thrilled. It revealed some cameos and variants we can expect in the movie, including a neat reference to the comics (Giant-Man’s Head). There’s a scene where Deadpool & Wolverine seem to be using Strange’s Sling Ring, presumably to escape.

A new trailer for the Deadpool threequel, Deadpool & Wolverine, has just dropped! And the hype meter has just crossed a new level! Fans have been anxiously awaiting the release of this film, even more so as leaks began popping up all over the internet since last year. Though several heroes and villains are rumored to be making an appearance in the movie, the recent trailer teases the arrival of Doctor Strange.

However, if there’s something we know about Marvel, is that when it comes to their most hyped-up projects, their trailers are not always 100% faithful. There has been some tweaking done in the past before, and there’s a possibility it might be happening again. This time, in the case of The Sorcerer Supreme.

Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman are back as Deadpool & Wolverine in the full length trailer for the new Marvel film.
There’s no official synopsis for the movie just yet, but we get a lot from the trailer.
While Wolverine wants nothing to do with Deadpool to begin, they eventually team up. However, there’s a moment at the end of the trailer that has Marvel fans excited!
Keep reading to find out more…
At the very end of the trailer, a “Doctor Strange” portal opens up and Deadpool and Wolverine leap in together. The portal is actually an “Inter-Dimensional Portal” that acts as a wormhole that links two locations. Could this mean we get an appearance by Benedict Cumberbatch‘s Doctor Strange or Benedict Wong‘s Wong? Stay tuned!
The movie also stars Emma Corrin, Morena Baccarin, Rob Delaney, Leslie Uggams, Karan Soni and Matthew Macfadyen.

There are few things more terrifying than the idea of a home invasion, especially one that ends in violence. So when reports first broke of a 2010 home invasion in the relatively sleepy Toronto suburb of Marham, Ontario that left one person dead and one in a coma, people were understandably shaken. Police, however, had reason to doubt the story told to them by the victims' daughter, 24-year-old Jennifer Pan, who was left allegedly restrained but unhurt and was able to call police. As the details of that tragic November evening began to emerge, the world learned that Pan had potentially orchestrated the entire event and hired the "home invaders" to kill her parents. In 2015, Pan was sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole for 25 years for the murder of her mother and the attempted murder of her father, with similar sentences for her accomplices as well.

One of Hollywood's most frustrating recent news stories is that Francis Ford Coppola is having trouble finding distribution for his self-funded passion project, "Megalopolis" (via The Hollywood Reporter). In a just world, making "The Godfather" would grant Coppola a lifetime blank check, but that has never been the world we've lived in.
What you may not be aware of is one of Coppola's influences for his magnum opus. Like his friend "Star Wars" director George Lucas, Coppola looked to Japanese filmmaker Akira Kurosawa. While Lucas took after Kurosawa's Jidaigeki (historical) films, Coppola looked to one of the director's contemporary-set films: "The Bad Sleep Well."
Released in 1960 and starring his go-to leading man Toshiro Mifune, the movie is one of Kurosawa's (comparatively) more obscure ones. It was especially overshadowed by "High and Low," the masterful kidnapping thriller that Kurosawa and Mifune released in 1963. Both movies are set in the world of...

We haven’t seen the full Avengers team in action since ‘Endgame.’ Since then, most members are either gone, doing their own thing, or still recovering from the heavy hits they took in the last few phases of the MCU.
There are two new Avengers movies in the works: ‘Avengers 5,’ also known as ‘Kang Dynasty,’ and ‘Avengers: Secret Wars,’ which fans hope will draw from the comics. People are speculating a lot about who will be in the new Avengers, especially with the bunch of new superheroes introduced in the last phase and more expected in upcoming projects. There’s also a ‘Young Avengers’ movie in development, showing the next generation of heroes getting ready to take over from the older ones.
During a recent Discord Q&a, Alex Perez from Cosmic Circus, a reliable insider known for providing truthful information, shared details about what we can anticipate from the upcoming Avengers team.

The last time we saw the full Avengers team in glorious action was back in ‘Endgame,’ and since then, most of the members are either dead or doing their own thing or still recovering from planet-shattering damage to their psyche that the last few phases of the MCU dealt to them.
Two Avengers movies are already in development, ‘Avengers 5’ previously known as ‘Kang Dynasty,’ and ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ that fans expect to incorporate some elements from the comic storyline. There’s long been speculation regarding who might be the members of the new Avengers, especially considering that the last phase introduced truly a great number of superheroes, and more are expected to be added in the upcoming projects. Covid, changing money flows and a new superpower Cold War of sorts may have, over the past few years, helped to reduce the connections between the film and TV industries of China and the rest of the world — so, will the 2024 edition of FilMart, whose organizers continue to claim bridgehead status, be the market to increase those connections?
Candas Yeung, the Trade Development Council associate director who takes over as head of FilMart this year, says that visitor and exhibitor numbers have crept up again this year — to an anticipated 7,500 and 715, respectively — and that fully 40% of market participants hail from mainland China.
“That’s a pretty significant proportion and they are very active in the market, both buying and selling, and making some announcements,” Yeung says. “Clearly, Hong Kong remains a crucial intermediate link between mainland Chinese and the rest of the world’s entertainment industry. We will try to...

A new funding initiative is being launched at this year’s Hong Kong International Film and TV Market (Filmart) that leans on the commercial nous of Creative Artists Agency (CAA) to help guide the fortunes of emerging Chinese-language filmmakers.
Labeled the Hkiff Industry-caa China Genre Initiative, or Hcc, this collaboration between the Hong Kong International Film Festival Society (Hkiffs) and CAA China supplies funds to “support and facilitate the growth and progress of Chinese-language genre projects.”
“Project markets were a European invention that were transplanted to this part of the world, Asia, where there wasn’t a tradition of subsidies,” explains Jacob Wong, the Hkiff’s industry director. “They were traditionally focused on arthouse films but here in Hong Kong we are more open to adapting to the business environment and that’s why we are keen to work with corporate or private entities.”

Jesse Moss and Amanda McBaine’s Boys State and Girls State have carved out an appealing niche by asking the provocative question, “What would government be like if teenage boys or teenage girls were in charge?”
Erasing the confines of gender binary and reality, Carina Mia Wong and Alex Simmons’ We Can Be Heroes works as a companion text by asking, “What would an alternate world be like if it could be wholly reimagined by teenagers?”
All three documentaries are explorations of power, opportunities to see the best (and occasionally worst) of what might happen when an ascending generation takes on its destined roles as leaders, learners, heroes and villains.
We Can Be Heroes is a documentary that makes your heart swell and makes you instantly protective of its young subjects, except that for over 86 minutes you watch those subjects slay demons and reshape a dying universe. These kids may...

Adapted from Lui Cixin’s award-winning Remembrance of Earth’s Past trilogy, and drawing primarily from the first novel in the series, 3 Body Problem is a mystery story that takes place on a cosmic scale. David Benioff, D.B. Weiss, and Alexander Woo’s series begins with a slew of suspicious deaths in the scientific community. When the world’s particle accelerators simultaneously begin churning out nonsensical data, an unnamed agency becomes convinced that these two events are somehow connected and sends a charmingly disheveled intelligence officer, Da Shi (Benedict Wong), to investigate.
As he sleuths into the ongoing deaths, Da uncovers a conspiracy that can be traced all the way back to the bloodiest days of China’s Cultural Revolution and to an astrophysicist named Ye Wenjie (played by Zine Tseng in her youth and then Rosalind Chao as an adult). Through flashbacks we learn that, distraught by the violence that she’d witnessed,...

Publicity materials for Netflix’s new sci-fi drama 3 Body Problem refer to Benedict Wong’s character, a slightly rough-around-the-edges investigator with cross-jurisdictional concerns, as “Da Shi.”
It’s a nod to Liu Cixin’s novel of roughly the same title, in which the delightfully uncouth Shi Quiang is referred to as Da Shi (“Big Shi”) as a term of endearment. But nobody who hasn’t read the book will know why Wong’s character is being described that way, since he’s now a British-born character less mythically named “Clarence.” The character in the series is perfectly entertaining, but he doesn’t stand out iconoclastically in even a similar way. He’s flatter, less surprising and generally a lot more conventional.

The final 3 Body Problem trailer is now out. The Netflix series is one of the biggest releases in the first half of 2024. Based on Liu Cixin’s The Three-Body Problem novel, Game of Thrones’ David Benioff and D.B. Weiss are the creators of the sci-fi thriller series. The show stars Benedict Wong, Jess Hong, Jovan Adepo, Eiza Gonzalez, Alex Sharp, Rosalind Chao, John Bradley, Jonathan Pryce, Ben Schnetzer, Liam Cunningham, Marlo Kenny, Sea Shimooka, Saameer Usmani and Eve Ridley.
The first trailer dropped in January this year, leaving viewers perplexed and excited about the show’s riveting plot. All we could understand was that today’s scientists have to deal with an unknown threat. A lot of scientists have been dropping dead altogether. But what exactly happened to them? What is causing this terror among humans, especially scientists?

Taking place alongside Filmart, the Hong Kong-Asia Film Financing Forum (Haf) is one of Asia’s oldest and most established project markets, helping a string of award-winning films to get made.
Recent Haf successes include Mongolian drama If Only I Could Hibernate, which was selected for last year’s Cannes Un Certain Regard, and Huang Ji and Ryuji Otsuka’s Stonewalling, which won best film at Taiwan’s Golden Horse Awards and was sold to KimStim for North America.
However, Haf is now just one component in an expanding range of activities organised by Hkiff Industry, the industry platform of Hong Kong International Film Festival (Hkiff). This year, the festival has partnered with CAA China to launch the Hkiff Industry-caa China Genre Initiative (Hcg), which is presenting six selected projects to an industry-wide audience during Haf.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness was quite a polarising film. It brought in iconic characters from Marvel Comics, and had one of the most highly anticipated fights in the MCU; Doctor Strange vs. Scarlet Witch.
Despite this, there were also many things that it did not get right. The unfortunate CGI, poor character development, and questionable pacing of the film made fans especially critical of it when giving their thoughts.

It would seem that another shortcoming can be added to the list of all the things Benedict Cumberbatch’s film got wrong. A found recently pointed out a gaping plot hole in the film’s story and it all has to do with Tom Holland’s Spider-Man.

Beef 2 Reported Cast Update & More(Photo Credit –IMDb)
The Netflix series Beef, starring Steven Yeun and Ali Wong, impressed critics and viewers with its dark comedy, fantastic storyline, and outstanding performances. The first season came out in April last year, and it has grabbed some of the major awards at the Emmys this year. Luckily for the fans, the fun won’t end with season 1. Apparently, there will be Beef 2, and big names like Anne Hathaway and Jake Gyllenhaal are being eyed for the main cast.
What is Beef about?
It is about a failing contractor and an unfulfilled entrepreneur, sparking a feud after a road rage incident between them. However, there is also an underlying depression. They require psychological solace but refuse to get conventional help. The series has an 8/10 rating on IMDb. Many critics call it one of the best series of the year.

Netflix hasn’t officially pulled the trigger on Beef season 2, but when it does, it could come with a star-studded cast. According to Deadline, the new season will revolve around two feuding couples. Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway are being eyed to play one of the couples, and Charles Melton (May December) and Cailee Spaeny (Priscilla) are being eyed for the other.
As it’s still early on in the process, Deadline admits that there are no deals in place yet but added that the scripts for Beef season 2 were recently turned in. Should everything move ahead, production on the new season could get underway by later summer or fall. Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway have appeared together several times before, most notably in Brokeback Mountain and Love & Other Drugs, so it would be fun to see them share the screen again.

“My hairstylist told me you haven’t made it until you’ve gone to an awards show in a [Mercedes-Benz] Sprinter van,” Ali Wong noted on the SAG Awards red carpet Saturday night at Shrine Auditorium — and one look at her Iris van Herpen gown, with its opulent sleeves and feather detailing that stretched far behond her shoulders, immediately explained the need for transportation that allows haute couture to live its life without fear of being crushed or damaged. Word on the street is that you'll want to steer clear when Steven Yeun and Ali Wong are behind the wheel in Beef.
From A24 Studios, the upcoming dark comedy series starring Yeun and Wong follows two strangers whose lives converge during a road rage incident. Danny Cho (Yeun) is a failing contractor with a chip on his shoulder, while Amy Lau (Wong) is a self-made entrepreneur with a picturesque life. Throughout the 10-episode series, their feud consumes them as their lives and relationships become intertwined in more ways than one.
As these first look photos show, both characters come from polar-opposite worlds. Amy is surrounded by her beige walls, eclectic vases and a hot husband. Danny, on the other hand, comes from humble beginnings and can’t seem to catch a break.

If you want to tell a story about expats in Hong Kong or anywhere else, one of the problems you’ll run into is that they necessarily have enough wealth to insulate their lives from a lot of the forces that loom over the locals — like politics and time. The three protagonists of “Expats” are all varying degrees of privileged and enmeshed in varying levels of grief that make them, as we all are, both victims of and perpetrators to the people around them. Director Lulu Wang, though, finds a wonderful cinematic answer to the question of how to connect the Prime Video series’ expatriates to the world around them, even if they can’t quite see it.

When it comes to China, the discourse surrounding queer identities – like many other issues – can be placed in a gray area, on the fragile border with taboo. However, cinema is perhaps the most powerful visual medium for better understanding certain dynamics that are too often subject to useless labels and dichotomous discussions. For this reason, I have selected 12 works – including narrative feature films and documentaries – that explore and reflect on intimate queer representation. The list is presented in chronological order and includes titles from Mainland China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan

Composer turned director Michael Giacchino is said to be in line to helm an MCU take on one of Marvel Comics’ supernatural teams, Midnight Sons.
Here’s one fresh from the rumour mill: reports are suggesting that Marvel Studios is putting a new team-up project together featuring some of its supernatural characters, based on the Midnight Sons series of comic books.
According to the report, Midnight Sons is ‘a team of supernatural superheroes that includes Blade, Morbius and at least two versions of Ghost Rider. Other members have included Moon Knight, Doctor Strange, Man-Thing, Wolverine, Iron Fist, Wong and many more.’
Lots of those characters currently exist in some sort of MCU continuity, so the top brass at Marvel would have no problem putting together a roster. Blade, Wong, Doctor Strange and Moon Knight seem like the safest picks given that they have have appeared in the MCU proper. Given...

However controversial that ending proved to be, it’s an inescapable fact: for the vast majority of its run, Game Of Thrones was an astonishing adaptation of George Rr Martin’s books. David Benioff and D.B. Weiss brought the world of Westeros to the screen in incredible detail and with thrilling intent, turning its unwieldy world into a general cultural behemoth. That’s no mean feat. And for their follow-up, they’re not taking a step back. The duo’s new project as show runners is 3 Body Problem, a Netflix series adaptation of Liu Cixin’s sprawling and mind-bending sci-fi trilogy Remembrance Of Earth’s Past, spanning time, space, and extraterrestrial beings. And just like with A Song Of Ice And Fire, the pair know they’re working with dynamite material.
If it gets to run to its conclusion, 3 Body Problem is set to deliver a killer conclusion,...

Oof, "Madame Web." Critics have savaged the latest Spider-Manless Spider-Man spin-off from Sony Pictures (read /Film's review here). Unlike the Sydney Sweeney picture I'm actually looking forward to this year, "Madame Web" is not "Immaculate." It's a hackneyed joke that in bad movies of this sort, the best part is when the credits hit. In "Madame Web," that's doubly true because you'll get to hear some nice music: "Dreams" by The Cranberries.
Released in 1992, "Dreams" is the Irish band's debut single, part of their first album "Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can't We?" Dolores O'Riordan, The Cranberries' late singer, and guitarist Noal Hogan wrote the song about the experience of love. O'Riordan's whimsical brogue becomes a melody played against the soft rock instrumentals from her bandmates. It's not just a great love song, but a song about how it feels to be in love: the floating excitement, how...

Andreas Dresen’s favorite Berlinale memory, as you’d expect, involves Currywurst.
“I was on the jury one year, And it was clear I was the local guy among all these big names,” he recalls. “Now the festival had a vegan menu already then, and at the awards dinner, we had great food but they were quite small portions and [jury president] Wong Kar Wai turns to me and says ‘Andreas, can’t we get some real food?’ So I took them all, Susanne Bier, Shirin Neshat, Tim Robbins, everyone in tuxes and evening gowns, to [legendary Berlin snack bar] Curry 36 for a Currywurst. Even Tim Robbins, who actually is vegetarian, tucked in. I personally saw him gobble up three Currywursts. It was the most Berlin moment ever.”
Dresen has had a few. The 60-year-old director has been a regular at Germany’s top film festival since 1991 when his student film So schnell es geht nach...

The Hong Kong-Europe-Asian Film Collaboration Funding Scheme being launched this week in Berlin is intended as a major component of an exercise in rehabilitating and internationalizing the Hong Kong film industry.
In unprecedented fashion, the territory’s Film Development Council is getting ready to start giving cash grants to movie projects that don’t necessarily have to shoot in the city or even use one of its three official languages.
Whereas in the 1970s, 80s and 90s, Hong Kong produced over 300 movies a year, for local, regional and international consumption, creating stars including Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan, Jet Li and Michelle Yeoh, the 21st century has witnessed a downsizing and recalibration of the Hong Kong production system.
For much of the past two decades the city operated as a highly-skilled but smaller system that sat alongside and fed into the mainland Chinese industry during a period when the Chinese economy...
