Diamanda Galás, the powerful vocalist whose avant-garde compositions cry out for humanity, has penned a letter condemning Lauren Pazienza, the woman who last year killed Galás’ friend, Barbara Gustern. Gustern was a beloved, New York City vocal coach who tutored not only Galás but Debbie Harry, Kathleen Hanna, Taylor Mac, and many others.
A judge last month sentenced the 27-year-old Pazienza, who fatally shoved the 87-year-old Gustern while attempting to get a taxi, to eight years in prison followed by five years of supervision after she pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter.

It took just 11 words to forever alter the history of reality television: "I want to forgive you, and I want to forget you."
Fans of The Hills will never forget Lauren Conrad's takedown of former best friend Heidi Montag, who — along with her then-boyfriend Spencer Pratt — was accused of spreading rumors about a sex tape between Lauren and Jason Wahler. But looking back, the mic-drop line overshadowed just how composed Lauren remained throughout their emotional conversation as she pressed Heidi to admit Spencer was behind the rumors, and when that failed, to recognize how much pain they caused her. Whether or not she was coached by a producer, Lauren's poise in that moment reflected the manicured nature of MTV's The Hills, which built upon Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County's soapy reputation with its manufactured storylines and relationships.

Finding actors for Abbott Elementary‘s coterie of impressive guest stars was no easy task for casting director Wendy O’Brien, who juggled A-list schedules, Covid-19 restrictions and child labor laws to help bring season two of the ABC sitcom to life.
After the massive critical and commercial success of season one, securing interested talent was not the problem: “Part of the joy of season two was that Abbott had already exploded,” O’Brien explains. “We were having agents and actors reaching out to us saying they were fans of the show, if there was ever anything that they could be right for.”
Creator Quinta Brunson had one actor in mind to play her character Janine’s mother, Vanetta: “Taraji [P. Henson] was a dream of Quinta’s,” O’Brien says. “But she’s extraordinarily busy. It’s not easy to nail down her schedule. When we were reaching out to her reps to gauge interest,...

“He was a big deal in TV, but at home he was an even ‘bigger than life’ husband and dad,” Geddie’s family says in a statement to our sister publication Variety. “He had a genuine love for television and entertainment. He would try everything and did it well — screenwriting, recording podcasts, playing guitar, writing songs, and loved a wide range of music from country to jazz. His favorite band was The Beatles,...

When in the throes of a mental health crisis, whether anxiety or depression, it can be very easy to want to simply push the world away, to shut down the walls and to never let anyone in again. Josh Leong has candidly reached deep into his own struggles with anxiety to create a touching exploration of how it can impact those you love the most. Overlaying purposefully disparate audio and visual cues, keeping the camerawork fluid and even integrating touching dance movements, this tightly choreographed yet emotionally generous piece looks at both the caregiver and the victim in such a situation, resulting in a deeply touching exploration of the ties that bind us despite inner chaos. We had a chance to talk to Leong about working in conjunction with Trust, being inspired by the blog of a friend and how creating the unique dance movements in the film represented a form of therapy.
