John Oliver was back on Last Week Tonight after taking a week off and dinged Fox News over their coverage of college students protesting the war in Gaza.
Oliver highlighted the coverage the student protests have been getting on cable news networks and highlighted a particular moment on Fox News as they reported from Columbia University.
In the clip, the Fox News reporter asks a student what they thought about the NYPD moving in on the protestors.
“It’s insane. We have a right to protest,” the student said. “Look at that, it’s f***ing crazy.”
Oliver zeroed in on the reporter asking the student what they were going to do when the police started arresting them.
“What am I going to do? I can’t really do much,” the student said.
The reporter then followed up, asking, “Are you going to go with the police if they make arrests?...

There may have been several renditions of the Planet of the Apes franchise but it is Andy Serkis’ phenomenal performance in the 2011 reboot that solidifies him as the inimitable legend who can never be surpassed as far as the role of Caesar is concerned. In simple terms, Andy Serkis is to Caesar what Heath Ledger was to the Joker and in his core, the motion-capture actor has mastered the ape in a way that no other actor can or ever will be able to mimic.

Spoiler Alert: This story discusses plot elements from “The Idea of You,” which is now streaming on Prime Video.
“Don’t you miss those bombastic, blown out pop choruses of the 2010s?” asks Savan Kotecha, the executive producer behind the music of August Moon — the fictional boy band at the center of “The Idea of You,” a new romance film on Prime Video based on a novel by Robinne Lee.
Nicholas Galitzine plays Hayes Campbell, the lead singer of August Moon, who falls in love with an older woman and single mother Solène (Anne Hathaway) after she brings her daughter to the group’s meet-and-greet at Coachella.
Galitzine first showed signs of vocal prowess when he played Prince Charming opposite Camila Cabello in the 2021 movie musical remake of “Cinderella.” But on “The Idea of You,” Galitzine pushes his boundaries, undergoing boy band bootcamp: lessons from Eric Vetro, vocal coach to Ariana Grande,...

Hulu has big things coming down the pipe for Only Murders in the Building. Steve Martin said this week that the group is about halfway done filming, and that the cast of the upcoming season 4 will be “star-studded.”
Only Murders has made headlines in previous seasons for its glitzy guest stars, which have included Meryl Streep, Paul Rudd, Jesse Williams, Jane Lynch, Amy Schumer, Cara Delevingne and more. Season four is set to include new characters from Eugene Levy, Eva Longoria, Zach Galifianakis, Kumail Nanjiani and Molly Shannon.
It’s unclear if Martin’s comments were referring to even more not-yet-named stars who will join the cast, but he told People this week that he and his co-stars believe season four “could be one of our best seasons” (though he added that “they’re all flawless”).

The fourth season of Only Murders in the Building doesn't even have an exact release date yet, but it's already surrounded by a lot of mystery and fan speculation.
At the same time, the main premise of the new chapter in the adventures of three amateur detectives is known – they will investigate the murder of Sazz Pataki, Charles' stunt double in the Brazzos show, who was killed at the end of the third season. Most likely, Charles will play a bigger role than usual – apparently, he was the target of the assassination attempt and Sazz was an accidental victim.
What fans are most excited about now are the numerous new cast members: actors like Zach Galifianakis, Eva Longoria, Eugene Levy, Molly Shannon, Kumail Nanjiani and others will join the fourth season.

There are movies that make you want one thing more than anything else: for whatever's happening on the screen to end as quickly as possible.
Reddit users selected popular movies that made them want just that.
1. Saltburn, 2023
In 2020, Emerald Fennell made her debut with the tragicomedy Promising Young Woman. The movie won her an Academy Award for Original Screenplay and gave endless opportunities to create her next project – Saltburn, a rip-off of The Talented Mr. Ripley.
The structure of the movie begins to fall apart in the middle as Oliver "skillfully" (actually clumsily) begins to work his way to the top. Many viewers positioned the movie as one of the most scandalous of the year – Saltburn undoubtedly shocks with some scenes (we feel sorry for every cemetery worker who's seen it), but seasoned viewers were tired of its extreme predictability.

With Billy Joel set to play the last show of his ten-year monthly residency at New York’s Madison Square Garden in July, two Late Nighters are poised to fill the void.
After selling out six shows so far this year, Seth Meyers and John Oliver are extending their monthly residency at The Beacon Theatre through the end of 2024.
The new dates are August 18, September 22, October 20, November 24 and December 15. Tickets go on sale to the general public this Friday, May 3rd.
One imagines their extended dual residency will come up next Monday when Oliver is set to be a guest on Late Night With Seth Meyers.
While their Beacon residency began this past January, Oliver and Meyers first performed together at the storied venue over three nights last August during the writers’ strike.

In the world of television, a “pilot” episode is the one chance you have to make or break your show getting to air. If it doesn’t make the cut, it’s consigned to the film vault of history, never to be seen. It’s extremely unheard of for a franchise to get two pilots. Star Trek: The Original Series being one of those rare second chances.
Bafflingly it’s been assumed for years that Mighty Morphin Power Rangers had three pilots. As Tony Oliver, co-writer and developer of the Power Rangers pilot, first revealed at Power Morphicon in 2007, “the pilot episode, which turned into the first episode [“Day of the Dumpster”], they actually did three times.”
That means they shot three separate pilot episodes, right? Well, yes, but also no. It’s very complicated so we did the biggest deep dive research on the Power Rangers pilot ever. What we uncovered changes everything...

John Oliver has some advice for the Supreme Court.
On HBO’s Last Week Tonight on Sunday, Oliver noted the court’s move last week to decide whether former President Donald Trump has presidential immunity against being prosecuted on charges he interfered with the 2020 election.
Oliver played a clip from an ABC News report in which the reporter noted that “the court [is] now taking on a monumental unanswered question: Can a former president be criminally prosecuted for actions taken while in office?”
Mused Oliver: “It’s an interesting question and real quick: Yes. Yes. A former president can be criminally prosecuted for actions taken in office. It is one of those questions to which the answer should really be obvious. Like, did Robert Durst kill those people, or which cereal mascot fucks the most, or who should play the next Batman? In the new HBO limited series The Regime, Kate Winslet plays Elena Vernham, the autocratic ruler of a small nation located somewhere in “Middle Europe.” Most of the action takes place inside Elena’s palace, and we frequently pay visits to a briefing room where Elena berates her cowed advisers. The room, with its huge round table and circular light fixture, very much resembles Ken Adam’s iconic war room set from the Cold War classic Dr. Strangelove. It is probably meant as a nod to the greatest piece of political satire ever filmed.

The Alabama Supreme Court’s recent ruling that embryos created using in-vitro-fertilization (IVF) are legally equivalent to people has caused absolute chaos as healthcare providers try to figure out the implications of this new legal status quo. It’s potentially massive and unsettling, as John Oliver pointed out the core absurdity on Last Week Tonight when he joked: “If you freeze an embryo, it’s fine. If you freeze a person, you have some explaining to do.”
The ruling, handed down last week, is already impacting fertility clinics across the state.

Christopher Nolan‘s “Oppenheimer” will notch another incredibly important precursor win on its path to the Oscars at the upcoming 35th Producers Guild of America Awards on Sunday, Feb. 25. According to our official odds, the blockbuster film will take home the honor of Best Picture. The ceremony includes other film categories such as animated and documentary feature and television trophies for drama, comedy, limited series and more. Scroll down for our official PGA Awards odds in 10 categories with our winner predictions highlighted in gold.
A victory for “Oppenheimer” here would be significant because, more often than not, the winner at PGA goes on to win Best Picture at the Academy Awards. Since 2000, the two prizes have gone hand-in-hand 16 times. The exceptions are film years 2001 (when PGA opted for “Moulin Rouge!” and the Oscars awarded “A Beautiful Mind”), 2004 (“The Aviator” / “Million Dollar Baby”), 2005 (“Brokeback Mountain” / “Crash”), 2006 (“Little Miss Sunshine” / “The Departed...

Barry Keoghan is aware of the attention surrounding his body and viral nude dance scene in Saltburn.
In an interview with Vanity Fair for its 2024 Hollywood Issue, the actor said that though the public’s reaction is “crazy” and prone to being “detrimental to the mind and your mental state,” he was prepared ahead of time.
“It can be detrimental to the mind and your mental state if you read into it too much or you look at too much stuff being said,” he said. “But I wouldn’t go there if I wasn’t prepared for that, or if I wasn’t open to receiving what people want to say. I think it shows an act of maturity in your craft, and if it justifies the story and moves it forward, why not?”
Keoghan noted how nudity is common in European cinema and normally “not a massive thing” to audiences.

“Murder on the Dance Floor” was originally released in 2001, but it never charted on the Billboard Hot 100 until now, peaking at 51 recently.
Ellis-Bextor recently made an appearance on The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon where she performed the viral hit and the star is now embarking on a North America tour.
The artist announced her first-ever live show in NYC, set to take place on June 6 at Webster Hall, and the date quickly sold out.
The British singer’s song is featured in the final scene of Emerald Fennell’s Saltburn, where Barry Keoghan’s Oliver dances naked around the manor. After the scene went viral, the song, co-written by Ellis-Bextor and Gregg Alexander, also went viral on social media.
“Murder on the Dance Floor” was originally released in 2001, but it never charted on the Billboard Hot 100 until now, peaking at 51 recently.

Beginning with this past Sunday’s episode, its Season 11 premiere, HBO is no longer putting “Last Week Tonight” episodes next-day on YouTube.
“When ‘Last Week Tonight with John Oliver’ premiered on HBO, the convenience of watching on Max did not exist so YouTube allowed flexible viewing for the main story as well as promotional exposure,” HBO said in a statement shared with IndieWire. “We are now delaying that availability and hope those fans choose to watch the entire show on Max.”
It’s a new dawn, it’s a new day, it’s a new life, and John Oliver is feeling…annoyed. The “Daily Show” alum, who has made a side hustle out of blasting his employer on TV (especially when AT&T still owned WarnerMedia), hopes HBO reconsiders its new position.
“I know I usually share a link to our main story here on Mondays, but HBO has decided they...

In a recent episode of Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, the comedian made a surprising offer to Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas. John Oliver proposed a deal worth $1 million per year if Thomas would choose to resign from his position on the Supreme Court immediately. And he was not joking while offering this.

The talk show host also criticized Thomas’ controversial vote in 2022, where he played a key role in overturning Roe v. Wade, a significant decision that had previously protected the right to abortion. Oliver expressed his dissatisfaction with Thomas’ stance on this matter and used his platform to voice criticism.

Andrew Scott has stolen everyone’s hearts as the ‘Hot Priest’ from Fleabag or as ‘James Moriarty’ from Sherlock. His recent film All of Us Strangers has been receiving a lot of love during Awards season, with him being nominated for a Best Actor Golden Globe. The film also earned six nominations at the BAFTAs, which took place earlier this week.
While Scott was not nominated for an award at the BAFTAs and was there to support his co-star Paul Mescal, he was reportedly extremely uncomfortable with a question asked by a BBC interviewer. When the interviewer asked an inappropriate question about Saltburn star Barry Keoghan, Scott reportedly walked away uncomfortably from the interview.

HBO is no longer giving away free next-day looks to the popular “Last Week Tonight With John Oliver” comedy talk show.
With the Season 11 premiere of the show on Feb. 18, HBO has ceased sharing the main feature and other segments from “Last Week Tonight” on the show’s YouTube channel the following day. The reason? The Warner Bros. Discovery-owned network wants people to pay up for Max, which is priced starting at $9.99 per month for the ad-supported plan.
Oliver broke the news to his followers in a Feb. 19 post on X (aka Twitter). “I know I usually share a link to our main story here on Mondays, but HBO has decided they’re going to wait until Thursday to post them to YouTube from now on,” the host explained. “I hope they change their mind, but until then, you can see our piece about the Supreme Court on HBO,...
