In a surprising move, Guy Ritchie brought over one of his recent films to the small screen: The Gentlemen. The original feature starred Matthew McConaughey, Colin Farrell, and Henry Golding; it was a nicely acclaimed film that reminded audiences of Ritchie’s earlier works like Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels. The Netflix series expands on the 2019 film, with a few changes to fit the episodic format. Below is the official synopsis: The Gentlemen sees Eddie Horniman (Theo James) unexpectedly inherit his father’s sizeable country estate – only to discover it’s part of a cannabis empire. Ever wonder what it'd look like if a World War II drama was filtered through director Guy Ritchie's sensibilities? There isn't a single piece of generative AI tech out there that could possibly have come up with the result of "Casablanca" by way of "Inglourious Basterds," with a scene-stealing performance from Alan Ritchson, to boot. "The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare" perhaps wasn't the most Guy Ritchie film we've ever received, but it certainly was an entertaining enough way to spend an afternoon at the movies as the ensemble cast of stars pummeled Nazis for a solid two hours. Based on true historical events as depicted in the book "The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare: How Churchill's Secret Warriors Set Europe Ablaze and Gave Birth to Modern Black Ops," the action-comedy took a much more irreverent tone to the overall story of the first black ops mission in modern warfare.

While Guy Ritchie’s brand new movie The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare isn’t doing as well as everybody wished in the box office, a real lifesaver has already come to the director’s rescue.
Four years after its theatrical release, Ritchie’s action comedy hit The Gentlemen is finally available to stream on Netflix — and the timing for the movie’s arrival couldn’t be better.
Having a star-studded cast that includes Matthew McConaughey, Charlie Hunnam, Henry Golding, Hugh Grant, Michelle Dockery, Jeremy Strong and many others, the film follows American cannabis wholesaler Michael ‘Mickey’ Pearson who seeks to sell his weed empire so that he and his wife Rosalind, portrayed by Michelle Dockery, could spend the rest of their life carelessly.

Filmmaker Guy Ritchie is known for his diverse portfolio, spanning action thrillers, spy tales, and period mysteries over his extensive career. However, the distinct approach is not limited to the movie genres only, as seen in his approach to crafting the script for his debut feature, Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels.

Spoiler alert: the film is not "Swept Away."
Given the filmmaking tear that Guy Ritchie has been on of late, the notion of scribbling out screenplays on napkins isn't terribly wild. Since 2021, he's plopped four movies in theaters, with a fifth on the way in 2025. Okay, guys like Steven Spielberg and Woody Allen have worked at a similarly furious clip for stretches of their careers, but Ritchie's flurry of films is peculiar because they're the kinds of star-studded B-movies that Hollywood doesn't make anymore. And he seems to be having a ball making them ... though audiences aren't exactly turning out in droves to watch them.
While Ritchie, like the vast majority of screenwriters, prefers to bang out his scripts on a computer, there was a time when he employed a less conventional approach. He wasn't as prolific at this point of his career, and there was a very good reason for this.

Guy Ritchie has been maintaining a consistent success rate with his films ever since his debut with Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels. However, his recent ventures like The Covenant and The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare have not fared well at the box office. The situation seems to be similar for the Russo brothers post their hit Marvel run.
Guy Ritchie’s Aladdin was a big hit for Disney in 2019
Their non-Marvel projects like Cherry and The Gray Man have not resonated with audiences. The Russos and Ritchie are returning to Disney for the live-action adaptation of Hercules. With Ritchie’s previous success with the company and the contributions from the Russos, the film can break the terrible trend that has plagued the recent Disney live-action remakes.

It’s been one year since YouTube launched support for podcasts on its Music app, and listeners are getting some fresh options. In the latest episode of the Release Notes web series, YouTube Creator Liaison Rene Ritchie discussed several improvements that have streamlined the podcast listening experience on YouTube Music.
The first episode of Release Notes featured a conversation between Ritchie and Johanna Voolich, and YouTube’s Chief Product Officer returned for the latest installment as well. The two execs discussed their personal listening habits (Voolich is a big Bailey Sarian fan), fielded questions from creators like Emily D. With ‘The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare’, Guy Ritchie returns to his storytelling roots, reminiscent of his earlier works like ‘Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels’ and ‘Snatch’. This film, while standing on the familiar ground of high-stakes, artistically violent narratives, uses a historically inspired backdrop unlike any other. A high-octane blend of fact and fiction dazzles as Ritchie applies his signature quick cuts and gritty aesthetic to the murky waters of WWII espionage. Rooted in True WWII Espionage Inspired by the real-life operations of Britain’s Special Operations Executive (Soe), known for their unorthodox warfare strategies during World War II, ‘The

Guy Ritchie is one of the most recognizable British auteurs, thanks to his bold narratives that are a kind of Quentin Tarantino-esque stories framed by British humor and set in a British working-class and criminal milieu.
However, despite his colossal contribution to pop culture, which rivals that of the aforementioned Tarantino, Guy Ritchie's films are far from box office success. While many of his films have indeed made huge sums of money at the worldwide box office, there are also plenty of absolute commercial failures despite warm reviews from audiences, such as RocknRolla, The Man from U.N.C.L.E. and the recent The Covenant.
The same seems to be the case with Ritchie's new big screen project, the feature length film The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare. Although it was released less than a week ago, the box office numbers are far from reassuring, but the movie...

Guy Ritchie has directed everything from low-budget hits like the crime caper "Snatch" to the $1 billion monster hit that was 2019's live-action "Aladdin" remake. But the director has also been behind some pretty big misfires, most notably 2017's "King Arthur: Legend of the Sword." Ritchie has been on a tear lately though, releasing three movies in theaters over the last 13 months. Unfortunately for the filmmaker and all involved, every single one of those movies has disappointed -- if not outright flopped -- at the box office.
This past weekend saw the release of "The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare" in theaters in the U.S. Released by Lionsgate, the World War II film took in just $8.9 million, placing fourth on the charts behind "Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire" ($9.5 million), which was in its fourth weekend. That's a relatively lousy start for a movie with a $60 million production budget. Granted, Lionsgate...

Quentin Tarantino may still stick to his fixed idea of having a 10-film-long filmography, but his legacy surely goes further with his short, yet impressive list of works, inspiring so many filmmakers across the world for their own cinematic steps.
However, it doesn’t seem to be Guy Ritchie’s case, despite the fact that the latter’s brand new movie has a major historical intersection with one of Tarantino’s finest works.
Though this suggestion wasn’t confirmed by Guy Ritchie himself, it was brutally shut down by Babs Olusanmokun who got to portray Soe agent Richard Heron in Ritchie’s spy drama The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare.
Talking to Cbr about the new movie and replying to the interviewer’s comparison, Olusanmokun stated that there’s literally nothing in common between The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare and Tarantino’s epic drama Inglourious Basterds — except for the fact that both films feature Nazis.

It has been more than 15 years since Guy Ritchie released his Sherlock Holmes offering with Robert Downey Jr. in the lead role. A lot has changed in the film industry since then, with the 59-year-old becoming a mega star thanks to his pivotal involvement in the MCU.
Now that Downey Jr. has hung up his Iron Man suit, he is interested in making a third offering in the Sherlock Holmes film series. This is reportedly in the pipeline, but it hasn’t been confirmed yet. It has been announced that there will be at least one spinoff series, though, which could be set to reinvigorate the franchise.
Detective Remains at Forefront of Popular Culture
There are rumours that there will be two spinoff series, which are due to be released on HBO Max. This could be a clever move from the streaming service, as the Sherlock Holmes brand is massive in popular culture.

From a certain point of view, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare star Eiza González may have just played the original real-life Bond girl.
Ungentlemanly Warfare, the first of González’s three Guy Ritchie movies to hit theaters, is loosely based on the recently declassified Operation Postmaster, chronicling Winston Churchill’s Special Operations Executive (Soe) and their covert mission to neutralize Nazi Germany’s U-boats during World War II. The efforts of these unauthorized commandos and spies helped change the course of the war, allowing the United States to then join the European Theater of Operations in 1942.
In the action-thriller, González plays Marjorie Stewart, a talented soldier-spy who’s equally gifted as a performer. Together with Babs Olusanmokun’s Heron, Stewart set up shop at the Nazi-frequented island of Fernando Po, where they communicated the Nazis’ latest comings and goings to their fellow Soe personnel, including a group of commandos that...

If there’s one thing everyone can agree on about Guy Ritchie, then it’s that he’s got a distinct style. Now, not everyone may like this style — but it’s always there and it’s impossible to miss either way. The director knows what he’s good at and goes at it tirelessly, pumping out new movies that rarely fail to cheer up the audience… Especially those who can’t get enough of Ritchie’s humorous action-packed films.

Guy Ritchie is indeed one of the most commended filmmakers in Hollywood, who has given some of the most cinematic masterpieces to audiences worldwide. But even he has one notorious habit that could lead the actors working on his projects to some serious trouble, just like what Eiza González almost ended up in recently while working on The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare with him.

This infamous habit is none other than his rule of thumb, which is basically to prepare to be unprepared while shooting, considering all the changes he makes on the spot with the dialogue and stuff. However, fortunately, González managed to escape the trouble while shooting this Henry Cavill-starrer through only one clever move she took while working on her accent for the film.

Henry Cavill in The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare. Photo Credit Dan Smith for Lionsgate. Henry Cavill’s bringing the action! He’s starring in Guy Ritchie’s new flick, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare – a totally chaotic, action-comedy combo. And get this, it’s based on a true story about a top-secret British unit Churchill cooked up during WWII. Their mission? Cause absolute mayhem behind enemy lines! Think spies, sabotage missions, the whole nine yards. Cavill was ready for a fresh filmmaking challenge and working with Ritchie again sounded like a blast. “The Gentlemen sees Eddie Horniman (Theo James) unexpectedly inherit his father’s sizable country estate – only to discover it’s part of a clandestine cannabis empire. Moreover, many unsavory characters from Britain’s criminal underworld want a piece of the operation. Determined to extricate his family from their clutches, Eddie tries to play the gangsters at their own game.

When Matthew Vaughn’s all-star comedy spy thriller “Argylle” was first announced back in July 2021, before Apple TV+ swooped in to buy the rights for $200 million, it was stated that the movie would be the first of at least three films in a major new franchise.
Two-and-half years on and “Argylle” — starring Bryce Dallas Howard, Henry Cavill, Sam Rockwell, Dua Lipa and Samuel L. Jackson — is premiering worldwide on Friday. But despite the deep pockets of Apple, two of its leading men claim they haven’t — yet — signed up for more.
“I guess we just want to see how it does,” Rockwell told Variety, with Cavill — who plays the fictional spy Argylle — adding that it “all depends on whether the audience likes what we’ve done.”
However, both Rockwell and Cavill asserted that, were further “Argylle” features given the go ahead, they’d definitely be interested.

After seemingly coming out of nowhere with his slick crime caper Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels, Guy Ritchie faced the huge task of topping his debut effort with his second movie, Snatch. In the movie, Ritchie built upon his unique style and delivered another smash hit that has since endured a lasting legacy. Revolving around a plethora of characters, Snatch intertwines the lives of the deepest and darkest criminals of London. However, this is done so with a sleekly tight pacing and a splice of humour that would go on to be labelled “acid humour”. What’s striking about Guy Ritchie‘s...

Lionsgate has debuted the trailer for Guy Ritchie’s Henry Cavill-led WWII actioner ‘The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare.’
Based upon recently declassified files of the British War Department and inspired by true events, the movie is an action-comedy that tells the story of the first-ever special forces organization formed during WWII by UK Prime Minister Winston Churchill and a small group of military officials including author Ian Fleming.
The top-secret combat unit, composed of a motley crew of rogues and mavericks, goes on a daring mission against the Nazis using entirely unconventional and utterly “ungentlemanly” fighting techniques. Ultimately their audacious approach changed the course of the war and laid the foundation for the British Sas and modern Black Ops warfare.
Directed by Ritchie, the cast includes Henry Cavill, Henry Golding, Alan Ritchson, Alex Pettyfer, Hero Fiennes Tiffin, Eiza Gonzalez, Cary Elwes, Babs Olusanmokun, Til Schweiger, Henry Zaga, Mohammad Nour Hakmi,...

No one is moving quite like filmmaker Guy Ritchie these days. The director will likely have two projects out in 2024 and maybe even three, with a fourth beginning production. First, there’s “The Gentleman” Netflix series spin-off, which he directed and wrote, and it arrives in March. One month later, Ritchie returns, this time to cinemas and the big screen with Lionsgate’s “The Ministry Of Ungentlemanly Warfare.”

Has anyone told Guy Ritchie that it's totally okay to take a nap, get some water, or slow down before he burns himself out? The prolific English film director, producer, and screenwriter has been firing on all cylinders for the last 25 years, churning out thrillers, action comedies, spy dramas, and even a live-action Disney movie to boast one of the most impressive filmographies of any director working today. Last year saw the release of both "Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre" and "Guy Ritchie's The Covenant," with the latter hitting theaters in April. Now, Ritchie's next film is slated for release almost a year later to the day with "The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare." I say this with the utmost love and respect — that's a title that sounds like the result of a "Guy Ritchie Movie" movie title generator. This is to say, I'll absolutely be there on opening night to catch this nonsense.

Miramax may have found its new leader. Jonathan Glickman, the former MGM executive, is in talks to join Miramax as its CEO, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter.
He would step in for former CEO Bill Block, who departed last year after a six-year run.
Glickman served as motion group president at MGM for nine years, where under his tenure, James Bond became a billion-dollar franchise. He also shepherded the rejuvenation of the Rocky franchise, relaunching it as the Creed movie series starring Michael B. Jordan. He departed the studio at the top of 2020 for a first-look producing deal with MGM, and two years later launched Panoramic Media.
As part of his deal to become CEO, Miramax would acquire Panoramic, which has its hand in several noteworthy properties, including the Addams Family animated movies and the Netflix Addams-centric series Wednesday, which helped propel star Jenna Ortega to the A-list.

Due to the complicated schedules of all involved, they only have one evening to complete what will become one of the best-selling singles of all time, “We Are the World.”

Chicago – It was another city in another time when Andrew Davis directed his first film “Stony Island” in 1970s Chicago. The film was released in 1978 to acclaim, but faded into the mist of cinema. Andrew Davis is back in his hometown to introduce “Stony Island” at the Gene Siskel Film Center on Friday, November 17th, 2023. For tickets and info, click Stony Island.
Rating: 4.5/5.0
Lovingly filmed on the gritty 1970s streets in the Chicago of Andy Davis, the film features his brother Richard Davis as Ritchie, a white boy guitarist trying to break into a Southside rhythm and blues band that cooks with its own brand of Windy City soul. Based a bit on his brother’s actual circumstances, the film features actual singers and players of the era, including a magnificent performance by Gene Barge as Percy Price, the centerpiece cat in the story who ends up in a fate of celebration.

We all know and love Ghosts, but the original young humans who inherit a specter-stuffed mansion are in this 2019–23 British comedy.
