Ramona, the debut feature of Spanish filmmaker Andrea Bagney, is making its world premiere as part of the Proxima competition at this month;s Karlovy Vary international Film Festival.
The (mostly) black and white film stars Lourdes Hernández as the titular character, an actress who meets the charismatic Bruno in a chance encounter. When she finds out that he’s the director of a film in which she is vying for a lead role, Romana finds herself questioning herself and her cosy life with her boyfriend.

Brussels-based sales company Best Friend Forever has acquired Andrea Bagney’s feature debut “Ramona,” a Spanish romantic comedy which will premiere at Karlovy Vary.
Produced by Sergio Uguet de Resayre at Tortilla Films, “Ramona” previously won awards in work-in-progress sessions at Rec Tarragona and Malaga festival in Spain. The movie is also set to open the Atlántida Mallorca Film Festival later this month.
Streaming service Filmin has picked up Spanish rights. A theatrical distribution partner will be announced by Best Friend Forever at a later stage.

New York-based Factory 25 has acquired worldwide rights to Tyler Taormina’s Locarno Film Festival selection and coming-of-age comedy Ham On Rye.
Taormina’s feature directorial debut explores a suburban community where the fate of teenagers’ lives hinges on a bizarre ritual that takes place in the local deli. The film received its international premiere in Locarno on Aug. 10.

A total of 13 projects will participate in the second annual Frontières Finance & Packaging Forum, set to take place February 22-24 in Amsterdam. This is an expansion on last year’s total of 12 projects.
Having been initiated as part of the partnership between Fantasia International Film Festival and the Cannes Marche du Film, the forum will see industry experts assessing genre film projects from a packaging perspective, analysing finance, marketing and distribution strategies.
Among the selected features are works from directors Michael O’Shea (The Transfiguration), Neasa Hardiman (Happy Valley) and Can Evrenol (Baskin), producer Andy Starke and exec producer Ben Wheatley (Free Fire).

Jan Naszewski’s Warsaw-based sales outlet New Europe Film Sales has picked up Miguel Llansó’s post-apocalyptic sci-fi film Crumbs.
Produced by a Spanish-Ethiopian team Sergio Uguet de Resayre, Meseret Argaw, Daniel Taye Workou and Miguel Llansó, the film received its world premiere on Tuesday (Jan 27) at the International Film Festival Rotterdam (Iffr) and will have its market premiere at the European Film Market (Efm) in Berlin next week.
Crumbs is the story of Candy, a strange-looking scrap collector, who embarks on a surreal epic journey through the post-apocalyptic Ethiopian landscape.
Llansó’s 2013 short film Chigger Ale about “Hitler´s Ethiopian clone”, also starring Daniel Tadesse Gagano, premiered at Locarno Film Festival and has been screened at Bafici, Tampere, Hamburg among others. Crumbs is his debut feature.
