In this second extract from his new book, the CNN anchor recalls his interviews with Robert De Niro, Kelsey Grammer and Charlie Sheen
Monday 16 April 2012
Robert De Niro is reputed to be the hardest star to interview. I've heard endless stories of how tricky he can be – monosyllabic, humourless, gruff, irritated, or just plain bored. One of his aides even warned me before our encounter today: "Don't ask Bob any questions that can be answered with yes or no, because that's exactly how he will answer." To complicate matters, I was in Los Angeles and he was in New York, so we were doing the interview via satellite remote, with a slight time delay.
I spoke to him briefly before we began the interview.
"Hi, Robert, it's Piers here, how are you?"
"Fine," he replied. "Thank you."
To try and lighten things from the start, we thought it would be...

A high-speed chase that began in Camden, New Jersey this morning ended in North Philadelphia, but along the way, the action passed by a rather famous witness. Two suspects, a man and a woman, stole a Camden Police cruiser, and led cops on a chase across the border into Philadelphia, where the man was taken into custody, but the woman stole a second police car. Witnessing part of the action was former U.S. Senate candidate Christine O'Donnell, who later tweeted "Whoa - Was on Ben Franklin Bridge when car chase happened. Stolen police car & cops whizzed by my car. Pray for injured policeman."...

Christine O'Donnell couldn't make it in the Delaware Senate game, so now she's decided to try her hand as a rap producer. Sorta.
ChristinePAC, a political action committee launched by the former Gop Senate hopeful, is promoting a new conservative rap video criticizing President Barack Obama on a variety of issues.
"Six Trillion Dollar Man," a song by Oregon-based artist/conservative activist Justen Charters, features a brief O'Donnell appearance and a laundry list of anti-Obama talking points.
Here's the hook for those lacking the intestinal fortitude to sit through the video:
He's the six trillion dollar man
Hope and change it was a scam
Every baby born owing 50 grand to uncle Sam
You didn't build that, you didn't build that
That's Obama style
You didn't build that, you didn't build that
Six trillion dollar man
Doesn't have a budget plan
Basic economics is something he doesn't understand

If this election hasn't been short on anything, it's a slew of parody music videos. This week we bought you M.C. Obama singing "U Didn't Build That," and now we have a Mitt Romney rap set to Vitamin C's classic, "Graduation (Friends Forever)."
Comedy songwriter Ben Sheehan plays Romney in this unlikely mashup dubbed, "Full Of Mitt," where Romney sings of his "qualifications" to the tune of Vitamin C. Take this sample lyric for example: "I'm so rich that it's funny/Drop the R, flip the O and the N and I'm 'Money.'" Yep, sounds like Romney all right.
You might remember Sheehan from his ode to Christine O'Donnell back in 2010. Watch the video above and leave your thoughts in the comments.

Two years ago, Christine O'Donnell was the Republican candidate for Senate in Delaware, and her race got some national attention after Bill Maher infamously aired a clip of her on his old show Politically Incorrect, where O'Donnell admitted she used to dabble in witchcraft. Maher was unable to get O'Donnell on his show that year, but finally, she appeared on Real Time tonight. Maher began the interview by apologizing to O'Donnell for how much attention the "witch" video got.

Herman Cain might be out of the race but that doesn't mean he's going away! Following in the illustrious "Oh, are they still here?" footsteps of Christine O'Donnell (yes, she's still here), Cain has taken to the airwaves to further push the 999 Revolution Solution, a plan which, we assume, won't involve an actual revolution. Today he appeared on The View's first show of 2012 and spoke about his former rivals, taking the chance to defend Rick Santorum's controversial "black people" comment.

Happy Halloween! If you're like half this office, you forgot to wear a costume (or really didn't want to). You also forgot to buy candy for all of those annoying Trick-r-Treaters so the best thing to do is go home, turn the lights off, lock the door, and put in a movie. Then turn the volume all the way up so you don't have to hear the cries of disappointment. Now, what movie to watch? Well, this is what Ology recommends...
Brett Warner Likes The Shining.

Stephanie Webber Likes Hocus Pocus.

Piers Morgan knows what it's like to have people walk off his CNN program. Just ask former U.S. Senate candidate Christine O'Donnell about that. But "The X Factor" host Steve Jones took this to a new level, by asking first.
The British Ryan Seacrest was wrapping up an interview with Morgan when he popped the question.
"Can I ask you a huge favor?" Jones asks. "I've seen this on your show before now. Can I storm off?"
Morgan agreed. But Jones adds he needs motivation.
"But you've got to offend me first. Like say my my hair is stupid," Jones says.
Morgan is happy to oblige. Now watch the fireworks.

First Christine O'Donnell and now this. Just a month after the former U.S. Senate candidate stormed off the set of Piers Morgan Tonight, X Factor host Steve Jones has followed suit. So what did host Piers Morgan say to anger the Welsh star? During his sit-down on the CNN show taped earlier this week and set to air Friday, Jones reportedly got miffed when Morgan asked him about his reputation as a ladies man. Jones—who has been linked to Hayden Panettiere, Pamela Anderson and Halle Berry, among others—up and left the studio. But that wasn't the end of it. Afterward, Jones and Morgan took to Twitter in a game of upsmanship. "For the record I'm not...

Former Senate candidate Christine O'Donnell (R-De) demanded an apology from MSNBC's Chris Matthews via Twitter Thursday morning over comments the Hardball host made during MSNBC's post-debate wrap-up. "Chris Matthews owes Bible belt an apology for elitist, rude remark about low Iq's," O'Donnell tweeted, adding, "Hannity would've been fired if he said it!" Matthews did, indeed, mention Bible Belt voters and "minimal Iq levels," but a review of the clip in question suggests O'Donnell's anger might be misplaced.

Christine O'Donnell appeared on The O'Reilly Factor as part of her promotional tour of her new book Troublemaker. Host Bill O'Reilly appeared to provide a much more welcoming interview than the one given by Piers Morgan (that spawned the publicity drawing mid-interview walk-off.) CNN host Piers Morgan and Countdown's Keith Olbermann, each well-known for their propensity to feud, squared off on Twitter last week when Olbermann used the occasion of Christine O'Donnell's walk-off to take a shot at Morgan. Piers Morgan isn't making any qualms about the fact that his aborted interview with Christine O'Donnell has left a mark. In fact, he dedicated an entire segment of his program last night to understanding what had happened and, more importantly, whether he himself was sexist. Fortunately for Morgan, his panel-- attorney Gloria Allred, Mediaite Editor-At-Large Rachel Sklar, and Time's James Poniewozik-- seemed to agree that, for once, this wasn't his fault.

Two days after walking out of an interview on CNN's "Piers Morgan Tonight," former U.S. Senate candidate Christine O'Donnell explained why on "Today."
"I wanted to stop that borderline sexual harassment," she tells NBC's Savannah Guthrie on Friday (Aug. 19). "He was being inappropriate and wasn't stopping."
During the Aug. 17 interview, the CNN host asked O'Donnell questions on a variety of topics raised in her book "Troublemaker," including her thoughts on masturbation and the military's Don't Ask/Don't Tell policy. In the wake of her walk-off on Piers Morgan Tonight, former Gop Senate candidate Christine O'Donnell (R-de) has waged an escalating campaign to paint host Piers Morgan as a sexual predator, calling his line of questioning "creepy," and accusing him of "borderline sexual harassment." Piers Morgan is still baffled that Christine O'Donnell walked out of an interview last night on his CNN talk show.
The "Piers Morgan Tonight" host called into Access Hollywood Live on Thursday morning to dish on the politician-turned-author's exit after Piers attempted to ask her about her stance on gay marriage - something she refused to answer.
"If you watch back the whole interview, she was claiming that I was very rude to her, and I honestly... I can be rude, but I certainly wasn't last night," Piers told Billy Bush and Kit Hoover on Thursday morning.

It was a wild night on CNN. First Christine O'Donnell walked off 'Piers Morgan Tonight' in the middle of an interview. Then, Anderson Cooper got a serious case of the giggles during a 'Ridiculist' segment about French actor Gerard Depardieu's public urination on an plane.
Depardieu is accused of peeing into a bottle while his flight was stuck on the tarmac; he claims he wasn't allowed to use the bathroom. In telling the story, Cooper threw out about 20 pee-puns, which he found so hilarious that he started giggling uncontrollably for about twenty seconds. "This has never actually happened to me," Cooper said, fighting through laughter.
The line in particular that seemed to trip him up was, "All I can say is, they're lucky it wasn't a Depar-two."

Christine O'Donnell has a habit of getting attention for all the wrong reasons. During the Delaware Republican Senatorial primary in 2010, she famously released an ad clarifying that she wasn't a witch, and her candidacy quickly turned into a walking 'SNL' parody. O'Donnell made headlines again last night, when she abruptly walked off in the middle of an interview on CNN's 'Piers Morgan Tonight.'
O'Donnell was there to promote her book 'Troublemaker: Let's Do What It Takes to Make America Great Again,' and grew strangely offended when Morgan began to ask her about gay marriage and Don't Ask Don't Tell, issues she'd campaigned on in the past and wrote about in the book.
"Why are you being so weird about this?" Morgan asked.
"I'm not being weird, you're being a little rude," O'Donnell responded.

It has been a wild night at CNN. First, Christine O'Donnell walked out on Piers Morgan in the middle of an interview. Then fellow anchor Anderson Cooper channeled his inner toddler when he giggled for about a minute over a poo-poo joke. The instigator was a RidicuList item about French actor Gerard Depardieu's alleged public urination on the floor of a plane as it was getting ready for takeoff. Cooper cracked up several times while reading the commentary, oversaturated with pee-related puns, until he lost it after the line that the the airline cleaning crew “should thank their lucky stars this wasn’t DeparTwo.” (For the uninitiated, the last part of Depardieu's name sounds like the French word "deux", or No. 2, as in pooping.) Struggling to regain composure after the juvenile and silly joke, Cooper said, “Sorry, this has actually never happened to me. You always see this sort of thing on YouTube,...

Piers Morgan pissed Christine O'Donnell off during an interview with questions that she thought was out of the topic she had agreed to discuss. "You're borderline being a little bit rude," the former Tea Party-backed Senate candidate from Delaware said on "Piers Morgan Tonight" on Wednesday, August 17 when the British journalist asked her about abstinence and her positions on gay marriage.
Believing his questions were relevant because the issue was in her book "Trouble Maker: Let's Do What It Takes to Make America Great Again" which they were discussing, Morgan asked O'Donnell why she was being "weird" about answering questions on her own statements. "I'm not being weird. You're being a little rude," she claimed.
"I'm promoting the policies that I laid out in the book that are mostly fiscal, that are mostly constitutional," the Republican Party politician reasoned. "That's why I agreed to come on your show. That's what I want to talk about.

Piers Morgan had a satellite interview with former Delaware Tea Party candidate Christine O'Donnell during the Aug. 17 taping of his CNN show, and after multiple attempts to get O'Donnell to discuss gay marriage, she walked off.
"Don't you think as a host if I say 'This what I wanna talk about', that's what we should address?" O'Donnell asks Morgan in the segment (embedded above).
The politician claimed she just wanted to discuss her new book, "Troublemaker," and the fiscal policies it outlines -- but Morgan kept bringing the discussion back to gay marriage and the repealing of "Don't Ask/Don't Tell."

How dare you ask relevant questions that viewers want to know answers to, Piers Morgan! Piers Morgan is already making light of former Delaware Senate candidate Christine O'Donnell walking out on a "Piers Morgan Tonight" interview after the host asked her for her views on gay marriage on Wednesday.
"Do you think Christine O'Donnell is going to put a witch's curse on me now?" Morgan Tweeted on Wednesday night after O'Donnell walked out of a satellite, pre-recorded interview for his CNN talk show, his Tweet a reference to her 2010 admission she "dabbled" in witchcraft.

In a bizarre incident, former Delaware Gop Senate candidate Christine O'Donnell today walked out of the taping of an interview for CNN's Piers Morgan Tonight, which is set to air tonight. The tipping point was Morgan's question about her stance on gay marriage. (By that point, he had already quizzed her on witchcraft and sex with the tension between the two visibly escalating, especially when Morgan repeatedly asked O'Donnell to address old comments about masturbation she had made in an 1990s MTV documentary special.) "You're being a little rude," she told him several times before asking her handlers "Are we done?" and taking off her microphone. But not before schooling Morgan on conducting interviews: "Don’t you think as a host if I say 'This what I wanna talk about', that’s what we should address?" O'Donnell was on the show promoting her book Troublemaker. “My first ever walk-out in 25 years of interviews,...

Piers Morgan's show hasn't even aired yet, and he is already guaranteed to win the most interest tonight, as former Delaware Senate candidate Christine O'Donnell walked out on his program, offended that she was asked a question on her views on same-sex marriage. Morgan visited Anderson Cooper to give a bit on insight on the moment, which he found "a bit extraordinary" and argued it made O'Donnell look "like she has something to hide.

It probably broke a little late for The Daily Show, so we might have to wait until Thursday to see if Jon Stewart tackles this little on-air dither that occurred during an interview on CNN's talk show Piers Morgan Tonight.
Tea Party politician Christine O'Donnell, famous for her 2010 campaign to become a U.S. Senator, appeared on Morgan to discuss her new book, Trouble Maker. However, when she decided that she didn't like Morgan's line of questioning, she walked off the interview, leaving a "bemused" interviewer in her wake.
“Ms O'Donnell wasn't happy about me quizzing her re views on witchcraft and sex. But really flipped at gay marriage Qs,” Morgan tweeted. In the interview, which you can see below, O'Donnell tried to stick to her talking points, though Morgan wanted to quiz her about other issues -- particularly her views on gay marriage.

Delaware Tea Party candidate Christine O'Donnell walked off Piers Morgan Tonight in the middle of her interview Wednesday, becoming Morgan's first walkout in his 25-year career.
Things first turned sour when Morgan asked O'Donnell about her opinion on gay marriage. O'Donnell, who was on the show to promote her new book Troublemaker: Let's Do What It Takes to Make America Great Again, argued that the topic was irrelevant since there is no new legislation and told the host he was "being a...

Failed Delaware Gop Senate candidate Christine O'Donnell, trying to stay relevant with a new book, Troublemaker: Let's Do What It Takes to Make America Great Again, got a little testy with Piers Morgan while taping an interview for his show, Piers Morgan Tonight, and proceeded to walk off the set mid-interview. The incomplete segment aired on Wednesday night's show. What set O'Donnell off were legitimate questions about her self-admitted dabblings in witchcraft and views on gay marriage, issues she addresses in her book. But O'Donnell understandably didn't want to go there, and accused Morgan of being rude. She wanted to talk about inspiring the Tea Party and their "second American revolution," but Morgan was persistent, trying to associate her with Michele Bachmann. Following O'Donnell's abrupt exit, Morgan tweeted: "Ms. O'Donnell wasn't happy about me quizzing her [...]...

Former Senate candidate Christine O'Donnell walked out of an interview with CNN's Piers Morgan today after the host asked her a question on gay marriage. "My first ever walk-out in 25 years of interviews," Morgan said on Twitter after the exchange, which airs on Piers Morgan Tonight at 9 p.m. O'Donnell, who is promoting her new book, became uncomfortable when Morgan asked questions about politics. "You're borderline being a little bit rude," she tells Piers Morgan. "I think I'm being rather charming and respectful," says Morgan.

Blame the witchy full moon, or the Tea Party sass in former candidate Christine O'Donnell, who refused to go along with host Piers Morgan's line of gay marriage questions on his CNN show and simply unplugged and walked off the live interview. Christine O'Donnell walked off her interview with Piers Morgan after he asks about her views on gay marriage. O'Donnell wanted to stay on topic about her book, "Troublemaker" and balked when Morgan began asking her about gay marriage. She said she was not in public office or voting on this issue or making policy. What do you think, was she right to walk off? Should she have stayed and stonewalled some more?...

John McCain's recent disparaging remarks about Tea Party poster women Sharron Angle and Christine O'Donnell had many either breathlessly announcing that he was "back" or, alternately, opining that the Republican Arizona Senator "is Gollum." Either way, it seemed that McCain felt strongly about the Tea Party's influence in Washington and was truly and sincerely speaking his mind, however bluntly and lacking in tact his remarks may have been. And the media ate that up because Politicians Saying What They Mean is to us what candy is to a baby or, more accurately, what sweet corruptible human flesh is to Cthulhu.

In a fit of anti-Tea Party rage, Sen. John McCain tossed a media exposure lifesaver out to former Delaware senatorial candidate Christine O'Donnell, insulting the Tea Party for having launched her to the Republican nomination. O'Donnell graciously accepted the opportunity to make headlines once again, releasing as epic a statement as we haven't seen since the Homeric tribute to Newt Gingrich last May.

Sen. John McCain ruffled America's already disheveled political feathers today with a Senate floor rant mocking the Tea Party's position on the debt ceiling debate comparing them to hobbits and disparaging them for turning Sharron Angle and Christine O'Donnell into Republican nominees. Unsurprisingly, Sean Hannity had a bone to pick with the senator tonight on those comments, and on his opinion that the Republicans will get the blame for a debt default if they do not compromise.

The Tea Party's role in the current discussion over how the federal government should best resolve the debt crisis has become a debate unto itself. Some pundits have made clear that the Tea Party is to blame for the possibly impeding default (if they even exist at all.) So who does the conservative opiniotainment program Fox and Friends turn to for clarity on this topic? None other than Tea Party poster candidate Christine O'Donnell!

The birther craziness, along with the innuendo about Obama's grades and the purging of dissenters, revealed a deep Gop divide that risks undermining the party going into 2012, says Howard Kurtz.
The regular Tuesday meeting of the House Republican caucus grew heated last month when some of the more seasoned lawmakers said it was time to "shut up," as one put it, about the birther issue.

The caucus has 85 new members, more than 30 of whom are new to elective office- "the kamikazes," they are privately called-and some took strong exception to being urged not to talk about President Obama's birth certificate. "Well, I don't think he was born in this country," one freshman snapped.
The birther nonsense seems especially pointless-and corrosive-when one considers that Obama was planning the helicopter raid that would kill Osama bin Laden days later,...

Watch out, moderates. Tea Party activists are outraged over Thursday's budget vote-and they're vowing to unseat Gop senators who caved to Dems. David A. Graham on their new hit list.
Wednesday afternoon, just after President Obama's deficit-reduction speech, Amy Brighton was frustrated and disappointed. It just didn't go far enough, wasn't serious about cuts, and was the old Washington way of doing things, she said.

But Brighton wasn't talking about Obama's speech-although the Tea Party activist from Medina, Ohio, didn't like that much, either. She was talking about the deal John Boehner cut last week with the president and Senate Majority Harry Reid to fund the government for the rest of 2011.

Well that episode was an interesting send off into the hiatus. I know there are so many inconsistencies with this show that I almost shouldn't bother. There have been so many questions raised that I've just blindly ignored them, but with "Original Song," I've reached my limit. Why wasn't there a school from the Vocal Adrenaline region? Shouldn't some school have represented them, or is there just a three school limit? And why wasn't Vocal Adrenaline there? Are they exempt because they won Regionals last year? Because beforehand they were winners something like 6 years in a row, which means that they should have been performing? Why was there only like a day between writing the new songs for New Directions and actually performing them? Shouldn't they have at least had back-ups on hand? And I know y'all have asked this a thousand times, but seriously, where are Artie's terminator legs?...

In the Monday edition of the New York Times, journalist extraordinaire David Carr reports that the relationship between Glenn Beck and Fox News is potentially reaching the end of its rope because of the ranting host's diminishing ratings. Writes Carr: "Fox News officials are willing to say -- anonymously, of course; they don't want to be identified as criticizing the talent -- that they are looking at the end of his contract in December and contemplating life without Mr. Beck." That's all well and good for Fox -- presumably, Sarah Palin or Christine O'Donnell could step in a host a conspiracy theory-laced show -- but if Beck leaves Fox News, where could he go? If the emotional former disc jockey decides to stay on television, here are five spots Movieline wishes he would land.
