Peacock’s upcoming limited series adaptation of “Long Bright River” starring Amanda Seyfried has added six to its cast in recurring roles.

They will appear alongside Seyfried and previously announced cast members Nicholas Pinnock, Ashleigh Cummings, Callum Vinson and John Doman.
Based on the book of the same name by Liz Moore, the series is described as a suspense thriller that tells the story of “Mickey (Seyfried), a police officer who patrols a Philadelphia neighborhood hard-hit by the opioid crisis. When a series of murders begins in the neighborhood, Mickey realizes that her personal history might be related to the case.”
Mihok will recur as Eddie, while Oldford will play Aura. Del Negro will play Simon, with Sansom Harris as Mrs. Mahon, Darragh as Sergeant Kevin Ahearn, and Mattfield as Paula.

"You run out on every guy you've ever been with!" Decal Releasing has unveiled the trailer for a romantic comedy called Which Brings Me To You, arriving in theaters in January 2024 next month. It's from the same filmmaker who previously made the romcoms Then Came You and The Hating Game, and this one will probably be just like those two. Lucy Hale and Nat Wolff star in this hilarious tale of love and disaster. Two romantic burnouts meet at a wedding and almost hook up in the coatroom before putting the brakes on. They agree to exchange candid confessions about their pasts on the off chance that this might be the real thing. "Trading candid confessions of messy histories and heartbreak" - revisiting their own "past lives" on screen. The film's supporting cast includes John Gallagher Jr., Ward Horton, Genevieve Angelson, Alexander Hodge, Britne Oldford, Marceline Hugot, and Laura Kai Chen.

Of all of the intellectual property to mine for a contemporary reboot, David Cronenberg’s 1988 thriller Dead Ringers could not have been at the top of many people’s lists. Inspired by a true story of twin gynecologists who died mysteriously in a filthy Manhattan apartment, the film (doubly) stars Jeremy Irons as Beverly and Elliot Mantle, and is a stylish and gruesome look (complete with mutant genitalia and metallurgical instruments) at two devoted brothers whose codependency leads them to ruin — particularly after a beguiling woman (played by Geneviève Bujold) comes between them.
Oscar-winning actress Rachel Weisz says she’s always been a fan of Cronenberg’s film and identified it as a possible project to develop for herself. In collaboration with playwright and Succession scribe Alice Birch, as well as directors including Sean Durkin and Karyn Kusama, the resulting reboot is a gender-swapped interpretation of Cronenberg’s Toronto-set tale,...

[This story contains major spoilers to the finale of Amazon’s Dead Ringers.]
Dead Ringers wants to leave viewers with questions. Big questions, that will make you rethink what you just watched.
Prime Video’s limited series reworking of David Cronenberg’s iconic 1988 thriller that starred Jeremy Irons has released all six of its episodes, taking viewers on a psychosexual thrill ride with the dangerously co-dependent updated Mantle twins, identical world-renowned gynecologists Beverly and Elliot, a double lead role played by Oscar winner Rachel Weisz. Amid the Mantles’ mission to revolutionize childbirth and as the episodes unfold — hopping from one operatic dinner party to the next — the bond between the sisters fractures as their ambitions veer from one another for the first time in their all-too-intertwined lives.
While publicly described in the finale’s exposé headline as “Abusive Negligent Destructive Murderous? and Brilliant,” the ending to Alice Birch’s adaptation sees the twins privately coming back to one another, with Beverly telling her more dominant sister,...

Rachel Weisz is both executive producer and star of Amazon Prime Video’s limited series “Dead Ringers.”
“It’s a psychosexual thriller about codependence,” the Oscar-winner told Variety at the show’s New York City premiere. “It’s twisted and entertaining and darkly humorous.”
A modern take on David Cronenberg’s 1988 classic film, Weisz plays twin doctors who share an unapologetic desire to push the boundaries on medical ethics as they challenge antiquated birthing practices to bring women’s health care to the forefront.
Simultaneously juggling the characters of Elliot and Beverly Mantle, the sisters are gender-swapped in the remake of the movie that starred Jeremy Irons as the twin doctors.
As a producer, Weisz says she was “involved in it from beginning to end” with Emmy-nominated writer and playwright Alice Birch, who served as showrunner.

On April 21, 2023, Prime Video released “Dead Ringers” with Rachel Weisz pulling double duty as twin doctors performing questionable procedures on women that are infertile. The limited series opened to rave reviews, holding fresh at 88% on Rotten Tomatoes with a critics’ consensus that reads, “If ‘Dead Ringers’ doesn’t wield as cutting a blade as David Cronenberg’s original chiller, it’s not a pale imitation either, thanks to Rachel Weisz putting on a clinic in doppelgänger duplicity.” The ensemble cast includes Michael Chernus, Poppy Liu, Britne Oldford, Jennifer Ehle, Emily Meade, and Jeremy Shamos. Let’s see what specific reviewers have had to say.

Unhealthy sibling relationships on TV reach a new level in "Dead Ringers," which tells the story of identical twin gynecologists Beverly and Elliot Mantle. Rachel Weisz takes on the roles of both siblings in her Prime Video remake, which is based on David Cronenberg's 1988 feature of the same name. Elliot is the more outgoing, unhinged twin, while Beverly is more fearful and idealistic. "I genuinely believed - and I know it sounds like I'm half joking - but I thought two people were going to play them because they were just so different," Weisz tells Popsugar of her original thoughts on playing twins.
Of course, she took on both, which adds to the show's hall-of-mirrors quality and also makes its ending all the more disorienting. By the end of the series, the Mantle twins have reached an impasse.

In "Dead Ringers," Prime Video's remake of David Cronenberg's 1988 film of the same name, Rachel Weisz plays twin doctors determined to improve the field of maternal health. Unfortunately, the doctors' codependency and obsession with expanding their business winds up leading them down a dangerous, bloody path.
Weisz, a mother herself, tells Popsugar that she was lucky enough to have "two happy, fortunate experiences where things went right" both times she gave birth, she says. Weisz welcomed her first child, Henry, in 2006, and shares him with her ex-fiancé Darren Aronofsky. She and her husband Daniel Craig welcomed a daughter in 2018.
"We were interested in the show containing lots of different complicated conversations about healthcare, and about philanthropy, and about business."

No one could be blamed for a chronic case of reboot fatigue, nor a wariness of recasting for recasting’s sake. Interpreting known characters across race and gender lines is promising in theory, but all too often executed without much intention — a hasty, lazy substitute for a fresh take on the source material. “Dead Ringers,” the new limited series from Amazon Prime Video, is not such a case. Riffing on the David Cronenberg film of the same name, the show swaps in Rachel Weisz for Jeremy Irons as a pair of codependent gynecologists. Unlike so many of its peers, “Dead Ringers” reaps ample rewards from its central switch, preserving Cronenberg’s signature strangeness while taking the premise to new, surprising heights.

Considered the master of ‘body horror’, Canadian auteur David Cronenberg is the singular talent behind nightmarish classics including Videodrome, The Fly, Scanners, Shivers and more. Dead Ringers, which was loosely based on the lives of Stewart and Cyril Marcus, saw Jeremy Irons’ twin gynecologists descend into a codependent hell. It’s nigh-on perfect so a remake for TV, ‘but this time with women’ wasn’t necessarily a welcome concept.
Perhaps against the odds then, this version is excellent, expanding on the themes, going hard on the horror and showcasing the talent of Rachel Weisz who scorches the screen throughout.
As in the film, she plays twin gynecologists Elliot and Beverly Mantle, brilliant doctors wanting to revolutionize fertility and the childbirth processes. With backing from Jennifer Elhe’s wealthy investor the twins open a bespoke birthing center meant to destigmatize pregnancy and women’s bodies – the clients are referred to as ‘guests’ rather than patients because,...

Amazon’s six-episode limited series adaptation of David Cronenberg’s 1988 feature Dead Ringers isn’t a perfect series, but in at least three key ways it’s a perfect piece of intellectual property mining.
First, series creator Alice Birch (Normal People) has a clear reason for wanting to tackle Cronenberg’s twisted tale of identical twin gynecologists, using the added narrative real estate of television and the passing of 35 years as fodder for an examination of reproductive freedom and the fertility industry that’s entirely its own. It’s a spectacular thematic vehicle.
Of equal importance, Dead Ringers is a spectacular acting vehicle, and in Elliot and Beverly Mantle, Rachel Weisz has the best role, or dual roles, of her decorated career, a mixture of uncompromising intensity, bleak humor and extended heartbreak that’s as satisfying to watch as it clearly was to play.
And, finally, and this might be...

Review: The 1988 thriller Dead Ringers starred Jeremy Irons in the dual roles of Elliot and Beverly Mantle, identical twin gynecologists who succumb to vanity, addiction, and obsession. As we have seen in years past, it isn't exactly easy to replicate the appeal and artistry of David Cronenberg. This is especially true when his work gets remade or reworked, such as 1989's "The Fly II" or 2019's "Rabid." As such, the idea of remaking "Dead Ringers," which is primarily considered one of the director's best works and features one of star Jeremy Irons' best performances, is equally weird and intriguing. However, thanks to Prime Video and showrunner Alice Birch, a new reimagining starring Rachel Weisz is here.
"Dead Ringers" is technically an adaptation of both Cronenberg's 1988 thriller and the book it is based on, "Twins: Dead Ringers" by Bari Wood and Jack Geasland. However, to call it a direct adaptation of either would be disingenuous. While some elements are maintained sporadically, its primary storylines are different enough for one to argue that it's doing its own things — for example,...

Dead Ringers, based on the 1988 film by David Cronenberg and the novel Twins by Bari Woods, is not what you are expecting. Cronenberg’s film starred Jeremy Irons in the dual leads roles of identical twin gynecologists who descend a spiral of drugs and sex littered with body horror and more. It was a shocking film that has never been ripe for a remake. That is why this new Prime Video series shares the title of Dead Ringers and the core plot, but the rest is a bold reinvention and reimagining that tells a very prescient tale.
Set in the modern day, Rachel Weisz plays the identical twin gynecologists Beverly and Eliot Mantle. The sisters share a bond beyond explanation, but the two are eerily similar yet very different. The siblings look to open a clinic to protect women, especially expectant mothers, and navigate some arduous mental trauma on their journey.

Today in remakes we're pretty sure we don't need, Prime Video released a new trailer for their new limited series adaptation of the 1988 film "Dead Ringers." If you're a horror fan, your attention is probably piqued, considering the original film is one of the horror maestro David Cronenberg's oeuvre, but how does it look?
In the sneak peek, we meet Rachel Weisz's version of characters played by Jeremy Irons in the original movie. Weisz plays twin doctor siblings who seem to be going to crazy lengths to change the face of women's healthcare. According to the streamer, the synopsis reads:

We'll get it out of the way first — yes, we've heard every joke about "Dead Ringers? Hurr hurr, is this the Radio 4 impressions show?" No, it is not. What it is is a new TV adaptation of David Cronenberg's 1988 thriller, this time starring Rachel Weisz. Check out the trailer…
Weisz here plays Elliot and Beverly Mantle, twins who share everything: drugs, lovers, and an unapologetic desire to do whatever it takes… including pushing the boundaries of medical ethics—in an effort to challenge antiquated practices and bring women’s health care to the forefront. No way there's a downside to that, right?
Well, given that the twins are potentially psychopathic, we're going to say it's a big ol' yes.
This new limited series is created, written, and executive produced by Emmy-nominated writer and playwright Alice Birch, a veteran of shows such as Succession and Normal People. The cast also includes Britne Oldford as Genevieve,...

"I want to change the way that women birth." "How does that vomit-inducing idealism translate into $$?" Amazon has debuted the full-length official trailer for their Dead Ringers series based on the 1988 film of the same name by David Cronenberg. Another modern update going from film to TV. The Mantle twins, identical from head to toe, are on a mission to change the way women give birth, starting in Manhattan. The original film's synopsis is pretty much the same: twin gynecologists (originally played by Jeremy Irons) take full advantage of the fact that nobody can tell them apart, until their relationship begins to deteriorate over a woman. This time, Rachel Weisz stars in both lead roles, as Elliot and Beverly Mantle. The series cast also includes Michael Chernus as Tom, Poppy Liu as Greta, plus Britne Oldford, Jeremy Shamos, Jennifer Ehle, and Emily Meade. This looks wild and bold and devious!

What’s better than Rachel Weisz? Two Rachel Weiszes. The Oscar-winning actor is playing twins in Amazon Prime Video’s upcoming “Dead Ringers” series, and the streamer now has double the footage with the release of the full official trailer for the show.
The series is based on David Cronenberg’s 1988 psychological thriller film, which starred Jeremy Irons as Beverly and Elliot Mantle, identical twin brothers who run a successful Obgyn clinic. Weisz plays gender-flipped versions of Beverly and Elliot, but the twin’s disturbingly close relationship — down to sharing lovers and drugs — remains intact. The trailer, set to Soft Cell’s 1981 synth cover of “Tainted Love,” teases a very different storyline compared to the original film, focusing on the twin’s experiments to change the very way women can give birth — pushing against basic medical ethics in the process.
“You want me to grow you a baby out of nothing?...

The first official trailer for Prime Video’s modern take on David Cronenberg’s “Dead Ringers” has arrived, with the feminist twist we’ve been craving.

Rachel Weisz will portray not one but two corrupt doctors in a new interpretation of a 1980s medical thriller, "Dead Ringers." Weisz will star as identical twin physicians in an adaptation of David Cronenberg's movie of the same name, and on Feb. 28, Prime Video released the first teaser, which makes it clear the series promises to be as bloody and disturbing as the original.
The first "Dead Ringers," which came out in 1988, starred Jeremy Irons as identical twin gynecologists who often seduce their patients. When one of the brothers falls in love with a patient, though, it leads to a rift between the twins that ultimately has deadly consequences. The story was loosely inspired by the true story of Stewart and Cyril Marcus, two identical twin gynecologists who lost their licenses and were later found dead of barbiturate overdoses in one of their Manhattan apartments.

Although we recently got our first look at the upcoming David Cronenberg remake "Dead Ringers," we hadn't actually gotten to see any of the bizarre action to come on Prime Video. Luckily, that has now changed, because the streamer has released its first, albeit very brief look at the limited series. Don't expect to spot any major plot details with this 40-second teaser, but you will spot two very different Rachel Weiszs in bloody lab coats. You may think you know why if you saw the 1988 David Cronenberg original starring Jeremy Irons, but will that be the case with this new take? Who knows! Regardless, this teaser has us sold.
What we do know is that Prime Video's take on "Dead Ringers" looks appropriately moody and downright creepy. Come on, if you are adapting a Cronenberg work, you need to embrace the weirdness that is so synonymous with his stories.

I’m not sure if the world is ready for double the Rachel Weisz. Prime Video has released the first teaser trailer for Dead Ringers, a new psychological thriller series that puts a modern spin on David Cronenberg’s original movie.
Rachel Weisz plays the dual roles of Elliot and Beverly Mantle, “twins who share everything: drugs, lovers, and an unapologetic desire to do whatever it takes—including pushing the boundaries of medical ethics—in an effort to challenge antiquated practices and bring women’s health care to the forefront.” The Dead Ringers teaser trailer doesn’t give us much beyond thirty seconds of Rachel Weisz times two, but really, that’s all I need.

Rachel Weisz is doing a double take as twin Dr. Mantles in the gender-swapped reimagining of David Cronenberg’s 1988 psychological thriller, “Dead Ringers.” Weisz plays identical twin sisters Beverly and Elliot Mantle, who both work as gynecologists at a successful Obgyn clinic in the first look at the show.
The Prime Video series is set to explore their toxic co-dependency in a high-pressure profession. Per the official synopsis, in a modern take on Cronenberg’s 1988 thriller starring Jeremy Irons, “Dead Ringers” will feature Weisz playing the double-lead roles of Elliot and Beverly Mantle, twins who share everything: drugs, lovers, and an unapologetic desire to do whatever it takes — including pushing the boundaries of medical ethics — in an effort to challenge antiquated practices and bring women’s health care to the forefront.
Britne Oldford, Michael Chernus, Poppy Liu, Emily Meade, and Jennifer Ehle round out the cast.
The six-episode limited series is created by Alice Birch.
