Pixar’s Monsters University and David Fincher’s The Social Network make for a perfect mashup trailer. It seems like it was a no brainer to combine these two films, and finally some has done it. This mashup trailer was created by Zenlike Productions, and it came with the following note:
While attending Monsters University, two friends were inseparable until their social media platform changed the world--and their friendship--forever.Starring Mike Wazowski as Mark Zuckerberg, James P. Sullivan as Eduardo Saverin, Terri and Terry as the Winklevoss twins, and Johnny Worthington as Sean Parker.Editor's note: The audio from the Social Network trailer is completely unchanged--not a single sound effect was added or removed. The end result was accomplished purely through creative editing.
If you’re a fan of these movies, then you're sure to love how this video turned out.

Of the five Oscar-nominated original songs for the 87th Academy Awards, Selma’s “Glory” and Beyond the Light’s “Grateful” are the only songs that solely play over the end credits of their respective film. The other three songs — “Everything is Awesome” from The Lego Movie, “Lost Stars” from Begin Again and “I’m Not Gonna Miss You” from Glen Campbell: I’ll Be Me — are all performed at some point during the film.
Now, that’s not to say that the end-credits songs aren’t relevant to the plot. Both “Grateful” and “Glory” stick with the themes of their respective films and summarize relevant events, even if they aren’t integral to each plot’s progression.

Monsters University managed a strangely subtle debut for a Pixar film, earning neither the high praise of most of their works, nor the backlash of Cars 2. Instead, the film was met with medium reviews, a lot of happy kids, and a very curious feeling of nostalgia for characters that aren’t actually all that old.
By the way, check out our Monster University podcast review for an expanded take on the film itself.
Our favorite monsters are back, but this time Mike Wazowski and Sully are headed to school, and we enter the picture before they’ve even met. Chicago – In an incredibly weak time for feature animation (since the glory of 2010, it’s been pretty dark out there), Pixar’s “Monsters University” has enough personality and genuine humor to stand out from its generic competition. It also helps the film’s quest for another Pixar Oscar for Best Animated Film that the recently-released Blu-ray is a gem, loaded with special features and including a spectacula HD transfer. It falls between the amazing “Toy Story 3” and the awful “Cars 2” on the Pixar spectrum but it’s still a good time and will make a lovely holiday season gift.
Rating: 3.5/5.0
“Monsters University” cleverly plays with what parents will already know and love about the college movie genre. The underdogs who overcome all odds — it’s an animated “Revenge of the Nerds” in a lot of ways. Overall, the film has a remarkable momentum, never succumbing to pacing problems...

To mark the release of Monsters University on 11th November, we’ve been given a signed copy of The Art Of Monsters University book to give away.
Ever since college-bound Mike Wazowski was a little monster, he has dreamed of becoming a Scarer—and he knows better than anyone that the best Scarers come from Monsters University (Mu). But during his first semester at Mu, Mike’s plans are derailed when he crosses paths with hotshot James P. Sullivan, “Sulley”, a natural-born Scarer. The pair’s out-of-control competitive spirit gets them both kicked out of the University’s elite Scare Program. To make matters worse, they realise they will have to work together, along with an odd bunch of misfit monsters, if they ever hope to make things right. “Monsters University” bravely explores themes of self-discovery and the revelations that come with growing up.

2013 has been, by all accounts, a forgettable year of mainstream animated films at best, and a woeful one at worst. With only two fully animated films left to be released on a wide platform—the upcoming 20th Century Fox film Walking with Dinosaurs is partially animated—it’s not likely that anyone will look back on this 12-month period as being a landmark year for animation. (Those two fully animated films are Free Birds, opening this Friday; and Frozen, opening at the end of the month. My hopes are much higher for the latter. Also, Hayao Miyazaki’s final film, The Wind Rises, will have a 1-week release very soon for Oscar consideration, hence the “wide platform” qualifier.) Up until now, the best animated film of the year has been, almost predictably, from Pixar Animation Studios: Monsters University, a prequel to the widely beloved Monsters, Inc.; it’s being...

Disney/Pixar’s well-reviewed Monsters University is a prequel of sorts of Monsters Inc.
Monsters Mike Wazowski (voiced by Billy Crystal, Cars) and James P. Sullivan “Sulley” (John Goodman, Flight) are back in this animated movie, but they’re younger and in the elite Scare Program, learning the best ways to scare.
For Mike, it’s a dream come true. All the best scarers come from Mu. But when he meets natural-born scarer Sulley, Mike’s dream is derailed. Their competitive spirits get both young monsters kicked out of the program and the only way to make things right is to work together.
The voice cast also includes Steve Buscemi (TV’s Boardwalk Empire), Helen Mirren (Hitchcock), Alfred Molina (The Sorcerer’s Apprentice), Sean P. Hayes (The Three Stooges...

Fans of Disney•Pixar’s feature films love to scour the screen in search of the Hidden Gems the filmmakers sneak into each film: Wall•E’s explorations uncover a Mike Wazowski antenna ball, paying homage to Monsters, Inc., and in Up, the classic Luxo Jr. ball can be seen in the girl’s bedroom as Carl Fredricksen’s house flies by her window.
Disney•Pixar’s Monsters University features a few such gems, three of which are revealed here:
A113 – The School of Scaring classroom number is A113, which refers to the former classroom of John Lasseter, Brad Bird, Pete Docter and Andrew Stanton at CalArts. The number makes an appearance in every Pixar feature film.

If there's one lesson to be learned from "Monsters University," it's that even an O.K. Pixar film is better than most animated flicks out there. The movie is a prequel to the 2001 hit "Monsters, Inc." and shows how Mike Wazowski and James P. Sullivan (Aka Sulley) went from college enemies to BFFs.The formula is pretty simple, taking elements from movies like "Animal House" and "Revenge of the Nerds," and stirring a ton of crazy creatures into the mix.But the results are gorgeous. The animation in this movie is incredible. The Ivy League inspirations for the title school look breathtaking on screen -- and its grounds are packed with more monsters than you can focus on. Each frame is literally filled with different and imaginative creations.Billy Crystal and John Goodman return, bringing their characters to life again with as much success as they did back in 2001. If you’ve ever felt different, Monsters University is the college for you!
Mike Wazowski (Billy Crystal) has dreamed of becoming a “scarer” since he was a little pupil. (Ha… see what I did there? Eh? Ehhhh?). Since the best “scarers” come from Monsters University, that is the only school for him, and nothing was going to stop him… that is, until he met James P. Sullivan, or “Sulley” (John Goodman), a natural “scarer” with a family history in the career. Now, it’s a fight of brains vs. natural, raw talent as the two compete to keep their spot in their “scare” school. Can Mike learn all he needs to know about scaring from books and hard work? Does Sulley have enough natural talent to make up for his lack of studying?
I really enjoyed the writing and humor of this film. I think Disney•Pixar was smart to do a prequel,...

Even though a Monsters Inc follow up seems rather unnecessary given the ten year gap since its release, I gladly welcomed another look at characters I've loved for so long and was very curious where Pixar would take what I consider one of their best and most original storylines. Thankfully, Monsters University didn't disappoint. Its fantastically rich animation, goofy laughs, and heartfelt story stay true to the Disney/Pixar tradition, and it can easily be enjoyed by children and grown ups of all ages. The story tells of how Mike Wazowski (Billy Crystal) and James P. Sullivan (John Goodman) came to meet before becoming the best scare team in Monstropolis. Growing up, Mike studied non-stop to prove he was more than a small, unintimidating monster and one day work the scare floor of...

It’s 2013, and in the world of pop culture, most of us comfortably take Pixar for granted. Here is a studio that, from 1995 to 2010, churned out financially successful films that were also unique, exciting, fresh, and captivating in ways other movie studios could only dream of. The relatively dark days arrived with Cars 2, a sequel to a movie that wasn’t as well-liked (rightly so) as Pixar’s other work. Though the doldrums lifted slightly with last year’s Brave, an original effort whose ambition was admirable even if the execution was muddled, news of sequels, prequels, and a potentially long-running lack of originality have made people think Pixar has lost its edge, or even its soul. So it’s gratifying to watch one of those dreaded continuations, Monsters University, turn out to be confident,...

Ask any film fan about good and bad Pixar movies and it’ll inevitably spark a huge argument. On one hand, it’s highly illogical to think that one single movie studio could continually make absolute classic films every time without any slip-ups, but on the other it may seem that that once honorable studio is so clearly playing it safe with sequels that all the magic seems to be running out. The last two Pixar sequels could spark an even greater debate as Toy Story 3 seemed to appease critics and audiences alike to the tune of over $1 Billion in global ticket sales, but Cars 2 took a critical drubbing due to a terrible story and seemed like its sole purpose was to sell merchandise. It eventually became the second-to-least financially successful Pixar release domestically.

We hold Pixar to an unfairly high standard. It's a blessing and a curse, but it comes with the territory when you deliver such greats as Wall-e, the Toy Story franchise, Finding Nemo, Up and Ratatouille (a film that has grown on me more and more since first seeing it). It's a sign of the greatness they achieved with their first ten films, but it's an impossible trend to maintain. With Cars 2 and Brave the animation studio that Toy Story built has never seen such a lull in quality. Unfortunately, Monsters University doesn't return them to their exalted stature. This is a film that would be even more disappointing had it not been for the memories of the much admired original. As is, it plays like a passable diversion, continuing to hammer home those core Pixar values -- friendship and teamwork -- but just assumes our connection with the characters carries over from Monsters,...

To say I felt unenthusiastic going into Monsters University would be a tremendous understatement. I have made no secret of my disdain for Pixar’s recent, increasingly commercialized direction, and as lazy and disappointing as I found Cars 2 and Brave, nothing made me worry more about the creative future of the company more than the prospect of a College-themed prequel to Monsters Inc. Every aspect of that sentence sounds wrong. College movies for kids never work; there is too much about those years that has to be ‘sanitized,’ literally and emotionally, for such films to ever feel honest or genuine. Prequels are an inherently messy concept, because there is very rarely room to surprise or challenge the viewer, let alone tell a story that meaningfully augments or expands upon the original narrative. And most importantly, nothing about Monsters Inc. calls out for a follow-up of any kind. It is a rather perfect animated classic,...

Ever since college-bound Mike Wazowski (voice of Billy Crystal) was a little monster, he has dreamed of becoming a professional Scarer—and he knows better than anyone that the best Scarers come from Monsters University (Mu). But during his first semester at Mu, Mike’s plans are derailed when he crosses paths with hotshot Mu legacy James P. Sullivan, “Sulley” (voice of John Goodman), a natural-born Scarer. The pair’s out-of-control competitive spirit gets them both kicked out of the University’s elite Scare Program. To make matters worse, they realize they will have to work together, along with an odd bunch of misfit monsters, if they ever hope to make things right.

‘Monsters University’ Final Trailer: Mike Wazowski Is Going to Find Greatness of His Own (Also, Aww)
The sequel to beloved Pixar property Monsters, Inc., Monsters University, is mere weeks away from arriving in a theater near you, and Disney and Pixar have just now released a trailer that pulls on the heartstrings in a decidedly firm fashion. Sure, all our other looks at the film, a prequel reunion of Mike Wazowski (voice of Billy Crystal) and James P. Sullivan (voice of John Goodman), have been varying degrees of cute and funny, but the film’s final trailer is the sweetest one of all. Why so darling? This one focuses on the big dreams of a little Mike, and it’s just the most adorable little personal journey story, and just soooo, just sooo…just awwww! It’s just adorable! We can’t help it (we apologize). And, yes, it’s also funny and filled with hijinks and college fun. What a mix. After the break, get the warm and fuzzies for Mike Wazowski...

It’s not too long now until Pixar’s latest, Monsters University (and lovely short The Blue Umbrella) hits our cinemas. To remind us of the fact, the company has released what it’s calling the “final” trailer. Check it out…Monsters University, as the title suggests, has us winging back in time to the days when Mike Wazowski (Billy Crystal) and James P. Sullivan (John Goodman) were fresh-faced college boys beasts and part of the prestigious faculty’s Scare Programme. There, taught by Professor Knight (Alfred Molina) and overseen by the intimidating Dean Hardscrabble (Helen Mirren), they strive to either overcome their deficiencies (Mike) or live up to their family credentials (Sulley). When something goes badly wrong, our heroes are ejected from the class and threatened with expulsion. To stay in school, they’ll have to compete in – and win – the Scare Games. Which is no easy feat when...
