Film franchises get revisited all the time. Whether it's reboots, remakes, prequels, or legacy sequels, no classic movie is safe from resurrection. More often than not, you get the cynical brand extension of the "Jurassic World" series, which largely produced movies that feel like endless box-checking. However, there are times when a filmmaker takes the reins on a beloved series, less interested in revisiting it for simple nostalgia than examining and recontextualizing it, producing a new classic in the process. There's no better example than the 2015 film "Creed," a legacy sequel to the "Rocky" series.
"Creed" is a movie dealing intimately with themes of grief, legacy, perseverance, and identity. Director Ryan Coogler brought the visceral immediacy and naturalism (and star) of his low-budget 2013 debut "Fruitvale Station" to a beloved Hollywood series that was largely finished. 2006's "Rocky Balboa" was a belated conclusion to the story of its title character, largely...

Throughout cinema, the single take shot has always drawn a sense of admiration from cinephiles, and we’ve seen many directors toying with the technique to truly capture and indeed arrest the audience’s attention. Be it Oldboy‘s corridor fight sequence, the mesmerizing long take in Alfonso Cuarón’s Children of Men, or even the CG-laden over Earth shot from Gravity, it’s a cinematic feat that can have a marked effect on the viewing experience – and doesn’t Creed director Ryan Coogler know it.
Now that his Rocky offshoot is out in theaters and earning overly positive reviews, the filmmaker offered a play-by-break breakdown of his own long take. Situated during the boxing match between Gabriel Rosado and Michael Jordan’s pair of light heavyweight brawlers. It’s a enthralling scene in its own right, and an important milemarker on the development of Adonis as a character.

There's a ton of great moments in Ryan Coogler's "Rocky" spin-off film "Creed," but the most jaw-dropping takes place right in the middle of the film - the first professional boxing match of Adonis (Michael B. Jordan).
The entire boxing match, with multiple rounds, is seemingly presented in one single take. The camera is right in the fight throughout, ducking and weaving right up close between the two opponents and will then drift to the trainers yelling instructions or Adonis' girlfriend in the crowd yelling support.
You can see just a sample of the sequence below, the entire scene runs for several minutes in the final film.
New details about the scene have been revealed in a new interview that Coogler and Jordan have given to Buzzfeed. The pair reveal that the scene was done in one shot and deliberately so with Coogler purposefully not shooting cutaways. Thirteen takes...
