An '80s Staple!
21 November 2001
A highly underrated comedy/drama. This is one of the first teen comedies I saw growing up and I never forgot it, nor will I ever. Gary (Lawrence Monoson) is your average high-school guy who falls in love with Karen (Diane Franklin), a new girl in school. Gary and his pals are always trying to get laid, but it seems whenever they do, something happens and Gary himself, is never able to. Karen seems to want to only be friends with Gary, but when she falls for Gary's best friend Rick (Steve Antin), major heartache ensues. The first half of the movie follows in the same vein as "Porky's", "Fast Times at Ridgemont High", and other coming-of-age, teen-sex comedies which were so popular at the time. However, in the last half of the film, "The Last American Virgin" sways off into a more dramatic and powerful direction. Very moving stuff. The great soundtrack adds to the mood of the film at all times. Lots of nudity, sex and adult humor.
