Down by Law (1986)
8/10
Jarmusch's best
5 October 2000
It's difficult to say which Jim Jarmusch film is the best considering the high quality the man always delivers, but I think this is it.

"Down By Law" is a film about three sad but beautiful people who end up in a prison cell together. They are of course innocent except for the most innocently behaving of them. Life in jail is not as hard as boring for them, and they break out. Through the Louisiana swamp they try to get away from the prison dogs.....

The film has a story as told above, but it isn't really what it's about. What I love it for is the way we look into the characters and how they get along with each other. The dialogue is so laid-back and pleasant that you almost fall asleep. But you don't, you are just comfortable, very comfortable.

For people who like easy films and films where the dialogues are emphasized, you will love this one.
