So sad the world that has no dreams.
21 January 2003
Joel and Ethan Coen are at it again. This touch of noir set in 1949 California will have you laughing out the corner of your mouth. A stoic hopeless barber(Billy Bob Thornton)becomes part of a scheme to blackmail a business man who is also his wife's lover. The dastardly deed goes awry and now there is murder to deal with. And if that is not enough, now the depressed barber must wrangle with the thought of saving his wife(Frances McDormand)from the electric chair by going himself. Thornton is flawless. Notable in support are:James Gandolfini, Michael Badalucco and Jon Polito. Don't even think of trying to count the number of cigarettes the slow moving barber chain smokes.
