Review of Pinocchio

Pinocchio (2002)
2/10
Nice comedy and nothing more.
17 October 2002
Too much Benigni and not much Pinocchio. The movie is a comedy filled with gags following the usual well known style of the actor Roberto Benigni, but all the magic, the appeal, and the original spirit of the book is lost. The events are more or less the same of the novel by Collodi, but apart from mere facts, there isn't much of the novel in this movie. Note that the book by the Italian author Carlo Collodi wasn't exactly a book for kids, as the majority of people thinks, but it was a sort of critical essay on the Italian society of the period. Nothing that Benigni could keep alive in his version. A good movie, for kids and for spending a couple of hours without thinking too much: the exact opposite of the purposes contained in the novel.
