2000 MTV Video Music Awards (2000 TV Special)
Probably the biggest cluster F in the span of all TV
9 December 2000
The 2000 Vma to me was a disgrace. And when I say this I am really talking about the live version which has as much of a chance of ever being played on MTV again as Bill Clinton does of staying president. For some years and with only a few exceptions (ie Chris Rock and Dennis Miller's hosting jobs), all the vmas have been really bad, but this one is the pits. With Robert De Niro (one of the greatest American actors ever) not being able to read a simple teleprompter, audio and video flubs that make my TV class seem like 60 minutes and of course the hosts (Marlon and Shawn Wayans), this awards show gets worse every time I see it and makes me wonder how far we have dropped since the good old days of Honeymooners.

Still, there are a few (and I mean ONLY a few) highlights, one of them being the either intentional or unintentional flub of Rage Against the Machine basist hovering over Limp Bizkit, which made me grin as MTV technicians go frantic. Another being the of course brilliantly hot Britney Spears performance where many guys felt more than the remote in there hand. And Bobby Brown up on stage just saying to Whitney "I don't care right now". And that's pretty much it, and the rest is a must not. Probably though, the biggest undoing of the show has to come from the Wayans. While I thought they were geniuses with Scary Movie, when the 2 of them make up material on music, they are just not funny (and believe me, when a Wayans brother has to show his a** to the crowd, it is desperate). Definately not MTV's best hour, or even their most adequate hour. D-
