Eh

I dunno if I can see the fanbase for this. On one hand you have nitpicky hardcore horror obsessives who will object to every other choice of scenes found on this compilation (and, btw, already own 90% of the films shown) and on the other hand you have people mildly interested in horror who may rent this to check out some of the horror monsters. But who would purchase it when for the same price you can get one of the films in its entirety?

The DVD does make for a nice rental for horror fans interested in behind the scenes trivia and such. Personally, the sole reason I rented this was for Robert Englund's running commentary. He shares a few interesting tidbits which was nice since a lot of horror DVDs seem to lack any kind of commentary whatsoever. As cool as it was having Englund share his thoughts, I think this DVD could have been a lot better if they assembled a few horror icons together. Maybe Craven, Carpenter, Hodder, Todd, Scrimm, Bradley, Savini, or Dourif? I wouldn't mind listening to multiple commentary tracks or even hearing a group commentary.

Oh well, I don't see the point of renting the VHS version; however, the DVD one does offer trivia, bonuses, and commentary by the great Robert Englund. With all that though, it's just a rental for me.
