Review of Kaante

Kaante (2002)

Awesome !!!

Kaante is an Indianized version of Usual Suspects, Heat and Reservoir Dogs. Slap in a few songs pictuarized in MTV style and you have a well made Bollywood masala movie. Film deals with 6 bank robbers who half successfully pull out a heist, and then realize that they have been grassed upon. The cinematography is first rate and on a par with HOLLYWOOD STANDARDS - however the film does more than once rely too much on the acting talents of its artistes, and its Hollywood derivatives mentioned above rather than the originality of its script. Performace wise, it isn't Amitabh who steals the show but Sanjay Dutt and rather surprisingly Mahesh Manjrekar. Check out the scene where Sanjay Dutt is being questioned by The American cop with the Indian translator in the background - a classic scene !!! All in all, a good movie which hopefully should set a good standard for upcoming Bollywood releases.
