Just...well...fun!

Warning: Spoilers
I am an avid reader, and i LOVE Jane Austin. Pride and prejudice ranks as my second favourite novel pipped very slightly only by Tolkien's Lord of the Rings.

I wanted to see this movie. not because i thought it could or would ever live up to the classic BBC mini-series, but rather because I'm a fan of the text. to make matters more complex, i happen to love Indian melodrama.

i loved this movie. not because of the story.

*SPOILERS* for there would be much to criticize. there are many things that do not happen in sync with the way it happens in the book. Darcy comes across as rather misunderstood as apposed to arrogant. he never has the "you're beneath me" snobbish outlook that the novel is famous for. in essence, the prejudice is left out of the equation. but that is beside the point. its a fun movie. the character of Mr. Collins steals every scene he is in, and leaves you laughing and not really missing much of what you expected to see.

Martin Henderson is good looking, and although not my choice for Darcy, was amiable and passable in the role of Darcy - for this type of adaptation anyway. Aishwarya was just beautiful. this is the first all English role i have seen her in, and she was definitely showing growth as an actor. i thought that she and Darcy had just enough chemistry to make things work.

All in all, i really, really liked it. Its no Firth and Ehle, but then it never claimed to be. Its classic English literature, reworked, spiced and given masala flavour. its Bride and Prejudice, and its an exceptional experience
