A nice romcom, despite the so-so title!
27 June 2005
Alex (Karen Allen) is a psychology professor in New Mexico. Her main area of research concerns a chimpanzee and his ability to communicate with her via sign language. She is mostly an all work & no play sort of woman. That changes, however, when a somewhat famous composer, Mark (Armand Assante) comes to town to teach at the same school of higher learning. His job is to instruct musical students while also attempting to compose classical pieces of music during his brief stay. Mark and Alex meet accidentally but prove to be allies against a stuffy administration and inept students. Could it develop into something else? This is just a nice, feel good movie for those who hold romance and comedy in high esteem. Assante surprises the audience with a kind, gentle and humorous performance while Allen is great as the erstwhile professor. The supporting cast, including Josh Mostel and Holly Hunter, is more than adequate, also. The scenery in New Mexico is fine to ponder as well. Then, too, animal lovers will find the chimp, Michael, very cute and funny. Are you running out of films to satisfy your romantic nature, romcom fans? Here's a sweet film to add to your movie pursuits.
