Zhang Yimou's Most Accessible Film For Western Audiences
17 January 2007
Warning: Spoilers
After seeing the critically acclaimed "Hero," and "House of Flying Daggers" and NOT caring for either of them, I wasn't sure that "Curse of the Golden Flower" would be for me either. Instead, as an American, I found this film to be FAR more accessible, and really enjoyed it. Strong acting by all...not just Gong Li and Chow Yun-Fat.

My only complaint about this film was that the last 20 minutes or so of over-the-top carnage was ridiculous, and I felt didn't really fit the flow of the rest of the movie. But the film is so gorgeous to look at, and the palace intrigue so...intriguing, that I was very glad to have seen it.
