The Night Before is a Beautiful Film
3 September 2007
I was privileged to see a screening of this wonderful film on the big screen, where it deserves to be. It's a shame that short films have such limited commercial value in this country because THE NIGHT BEFORE deserves a wide audience. Above all else, it should be required viewing for health care workers in any hospital that provides care for children. The insightful script puts you square in the mind of a young boy about to undergo a series surgical procedure. The children cast in the film were first rate actors with none of the over-the-top style of acting associated with many young performers. Indeed, most child actors come across as though they are hawking Big Macs in a McDonald's commercial. Not so this time. Director Jay Holben elicits authentic emotions from these young actors, making the script by James Cole spring to life. THE NIGHT BEFORE is highly recommended.
