Unleashed (2005)
7/10
Good Action-Packed Drama w/ "killer" performances !
28 October 2007
Warning: Spoilers
Luc Besson, the man who brought the world "Leon" and "The Fifth Element," co-produces and writes an interesting Crime Drama, which focuses on a Asian man named Danny ( played by Jet Li, who's actually trying to act this time around as well as perform stunts that aren't done w/ computers), who is raised like a dog by a merciless gangster ( played with some depth by the excellent Bob Hoskins) who has him compete in fighting tournaments for cash.

One day, Danny gets away and ends up having a completely different life when he is brought in by a blind piano player ( Morgan Freeman, who's totally in character ) and ends up knowing that he has a conscience beneath his brutal "fists of fury."

But just as Danny gets settled in with his "new family," his former "master" literally tries to put the leash back on him again and threatens his newfound family. Here the last twenty minutes are non-stop mixed martial-art battles along with disarming goons w/ guns and incredibly frantic jumps. All the scenes are well done by Master Yeun Woo Ping of "The Matrix" trilogy and various other Jet Li - Jackie Chan films.

While the story isn't as good as I would like it to be, it's at least decent enough to earn some praise in my book.
