This film just doesn't get off the ground. Clark Gable gives it his best effort. Billie Burke is her bubbly self. But every time the dialogue or action goes to Constance Bennett, things get bogged down. You get the feeling that it could have been a much better, brighter film if they'd only cast Carole Lombard opposite Clark Gable instead of Bennett.
This is especially apparent in one scene where Gable is juggling oranges that are supposed to be quintuplets, pretending to be a new mother for Bennett to interview. Gable is hysterical, but the bit drops like lead when tossed to Bennett. It's like telling a really funny joke that other people have really enjoyed to someone, expecting them to laugh, and they just kind of smile lamely. Bennett smiles and acts lamely throughout the film.
If you're a big Gable fan you might enjoy this movie. But if not, be prepared to snore before you ever discover what the plot is, if any. You just won't care.
