Review of Fear Itself

Fear Itself (2008–2009)
7/10
Spooked, too many opening clichés
20 June 2008
Warning: Spoilers
I enjoyed the first two episodes. Fear Itself is a good addition to the summer drama shows. However, "Spooked" used one to many writing clichés. The detective's name is Harry, pretty close to a "Dirty Harry" rip-off in the opening scenes. Smoking of the cigar, was it necessary, or was Lionsgate prostituting itself to the American tobacco industry. Then when Harry has his own detective agency, his partner, an Afro-American, has a Big gun stuck in the back of his pants. What an Afro-American male stereotype! Finally, in the restaurant, Harry is ridiculously pouring a "ton of sugar" into his coffee cup. Are these the clichés about Americans that Canadian writers think they need in order to sell a drama in the US?
