A sweet natured film
9 January 2009
Warning: Spoilers
This film was shot in rural Virginia and it certainly has the feel of it. A very sweet natured film, it tells a good story at a non-frenetic pace. No guns, explosions, morphing aliens, super-powers, etc. Familiar Strangers is a family film for sure. It is also remarkable well shot - it's a really, really good looking film.

The acting is generally well done. Main problem for me is the potential love interest that is set up and even has some follow up, but then it's simply dropped. It's not a major part of the story though, so doesn't have any impact on the main narrative thread.

The strained family dynamics that run through much (but not all) of the movie are not of the cringe-inducing variety, but will hit home for a lot of viewers. I'll not spoil another development that occurs towards the end, however. A resolution does come about though, so it meets the needs for a good holiday family film.
