Toho tried and failed to do another kind of film
8 September 2009
Warning: Spoilers
Toho is noted for doing Giant Monster films in the Japanese style, this film also tries to be a police film about cops trying to outsmart a gang of Jewel thieves.

It doesn't work because largely, you realize that there are two movies going on here, and they rarely intersect, even to the point where chunks of the dying monster splatter the gang of jewel thieves...

Seriously, if you had a monster threatening to suck all the life-giving carbon out of earth's biosphere, a diamond heist would NOT be on the top of your priority list if you are either the authorities OR the thieves.

I do remember how hot I thought the hot babe on the crooked side was, and looking at this film some 40 years later, I realize, yeah, she really was hot. (Probably someone's grandmother now.)
