And there started their love...
2 November 2010
...Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya is a pretty ordinary love story. The movie is directed by Rahul Rawail, and he takes a lot of the romantic plot elements from his own 1983 classic Betaab, which was a very successful romance of its time, launching the careers of Sunny Deol and Amrita Singh. Maybe it was an intentional reference to the film, but the lack of originality did bother. This film stars Sunny's younger brother Bobby and marks the debut of none other than the beauty Aishwarya Rai. Just like Betaab, this one is a hate-to-love romance. As said, it's got nothing particularly new or special to offer, but the movie is actually not that bad and it's been a pretty enjoyable one-time watch for me. Bobby Deol never was a favourite of mine, but he was quite okay in some of his movies throughout the 1990s, and here too he is alright. Aishwarya Rai is beautiful, well, of course. Where acting goes, she too is okay and does a decent job for a debut movie. Actually no one could predict that this girl would go on to deliver some fantastic performances, even if today people love to hate her. Shammi Kapoor is in this film, and he's very likable as the grandpa. Anupam Kher is also funny as usual. The movie's soundtrack is very good, and it is actually one of the few soundtracks composed by the great singer and musician Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. "Jagi Hui Fizayen" is my favourite number. To sum it up, Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya is an ordinary mainstream romance, it has nothing particularly good, but it has its moments and can be watched with the family.
