Review of Up the Sandbox

7/10
1970s "Thinker" film
5 May 2011
Warning: Spoilers
Thar be spoilers below...

Stars Barbra Streisand (Margaret) and David Selby (Paul) as husband and wife, who live in New York with their kids. Margaret starts to have "adventures', kind of a Walter Mitty kind of thing going on in this 70'2 psychological thinker. Some funny stuff in here though, in between the slow action. Margaret (Streisand) hugs the woman having an affair with her husband, to thank her for being so honest. Later, she discovers Fidel Castro's "secrets". Also some great outdoor shots of NYC in the 1970s. One of the first films for Selby, although Streisand had been in the biz for a while by then. This was released in 1972, the same year "What's up Doc ?" came out, which is 1000 times better.

Keep an eye out for familiar faces of the supporting cast... Paul Benedict (Dr. Beineke here, already playing the offbeat character) and Isabel Sanford would both be on the Jeffersons a couples years later. Also Conrad Bain from Different Strokes. Directed by Irvin Kershner, who seems to have made numerous sequels and remakes (Star Wars V, Robocop 2, Return of, etc) Not bad, but moves a little slow.
