Warning: Spoilers
I found the realistic drama found within "The Dilemma" to be refreshing and rewarding.

The comments about a complete lack of comedy are false. While this may not be the comedy that it was advertised to be - it's still an effective piece of film-making with enough laughs to keep up the pace of the film and also keep the film from getting too heavy. It will still be a bit heavy for the 15-25 yr old demographic, but for adults this is a rare treat because of how Ron Howard tackles the subject matter with such 'Honesty' as Vince Vaughn might say.

The Dilemma actually balances the comedy and the drama quite well with strong performances from all involved. The relationships that surrounded this 'Dilemma' came off as genuine. Everything worked, everything went how it might in real life, and everything works out with an A-typical Hollywood ending(but with real BEST friends - it's realistic too).

Let's not crucify this piece of work for false advertising or some purposefully unlikable characters - which quite honestly are the only two things about this movie that I can understand that some people may not like.

Upon bringing this back up to review the film and seeing 5.8 - I'm disappointed and starting to wonder if these big name Hollywood comedies that earn early bad raps(God knows there's been a lot of them lately) aren't getting piled on by people who haven't even seen the movie. This was a solid dramedy with Vince Vaughn in rare form, and the relationships are portrayed in a true-to-life manner.

Kevin James does not have enough screen time, and Winona Ryders character is flat-out unlikable, but effective none-the-less. The film has it's faults, but not many. This was obviously a bit too serious for some. Compared to Grown-Ups or Couple's retreat this is a masterpiece, and while that's not saying much, let's make a clear separation between Ron Howard's film here and the diluted, meaningless, even less-funny Hollywood crap that's scored higher. This is still a heartfelt film that deserves a higher rating here.

Go rent it.

68/100

6mnths later EDIT - Couples Retreat is a 5.4, Take Me Home Tonight is a 6.5, and Fools Gold a 5.4.... and this is now a 5.2....?!?!?!? Travesty.
