Review of In Darkness

In Darkness (2011)
5/10
Disappointing and dark
21 February 2012
Warning: Spoilers
Many scenes in this movie were so dimly-lit,especially in the sewers,I couldn't make out the actions.Along with the quick dialogue and subtitles,it was hard for me to follow the conversations, although I have no problem at all with subtitles. After a while I was really waiting for it to end. Also, the camera work at the beginning was making me dizzy. The sewer rain scene really reminded me of The Poseiden Adventure. The most memorable character is Leopold Socha & his wife Wanda. Leopold had a change-of heart towards the end of the movie and helped the Jews as he came to feel for them and their struggles. His wife showed the goodness in some of the Poles towards the Jews. His was the only character fully developed and his acting was intense and believable. I still can't remember the names of the individuals in the sewers aside from the Chiger family and their children. And why so many sex scenes.I can't imagine desiring lusty, intense love-making amidst the rats, filth, stench, and fear in the sewers,or was it because of it.I think those scenes were overdone, just for the shock value. All in all,a great disappointment. I expected much more than Schindler's List but received much less. Don't waste over two hours of your time. Wait for it on DVD.
