Refreshing humor and execution though story could have been better
17 October 2012
Damsels in Distress – CATCH IT (B+) Damsels in Distress is a quirky comedy revolves around set of girls trying to fix and make better the lives of university students with their unusual ways. The movie has very bleak story but the humor and an honest performance by Greta Gerwig holds the movie all together. Over the years I have heard a lot about Greta Gerwig but never been able to watch anyone of her previous movies so this is my first Greta Gerwig movie and I have to say I'm impressed. She brings this honesty to her character that within few minutes you forget what it's all about and what she is trying to achieve. You are just convinced that whatever she is doing is for the right reasons. Analeigh Tipton got everyone' attention in star studded Crazy, Stupid, Love and here she proves yet again that she is here to stay. She has strong personality and natural acting chops. Adam Brody and Hugo Becker do their part with utmost charm. Megalyn Echikunwoke, Carrie MacLemore, Ryan MetCalfe and Jermoine Crawford did a decent job in supporting characters. In the end, it's a nice, quirky indie comedy though I didn't enjoy the last act of the movie. Still there are many moments when I was laughing my bleep out.
