Cromwell gives a good general overview of the culture and beliefs in England during the 1640s. However, there are some historical errors. It clearly exaggerates Cromwell's role before the Civil War painting him as a main character of the revolution. It also portrays Cromwell as one of the five parliament members who were supposed to be arrested, when it is quite evident that he was not. The film completely misses the battle of Marston Moor, which was the first major victory for the parliamentarians. In the film Cromwell quickly dismisses the idea of being King and even finds the concept humorous, but in fact it is known that Cromwell spent a long time toying with the thought of becoming King and it is believed that he eventually had to be persuaded not to take the throne by the army.
