Hit and miss.

The problem with The Barbarian Invasions is in the mission which is a big shame because the film had such potential. The driving momentum of the film is the son's drive to buy heroin for his father for its painkilling abilities. It never addresses the moral implications, just the legal ones, but it seems to be an obvious double-edged sword where the consequences of the heroin could be easily seen from miles away. It has some great photography, acting and interesting conversations but it's quite inconsistent. It's a real shame that the one aspect drags it down enough to smear the experience.
