Review of '68

'68 (1988)
Rambling and unfocused
28 July 2013
Though I was born several years after the '60s ended, I have long had an interest in this period of time, so that's why I was attracted to this movie when I found it at my local video store. However, I ended up being greatly disappointed by it. I guess for a low budget movie that the recreation of the period is okay, with enough period detail, though I couldn't help but notice that some of the classic songs on the soundtrack are played more than once. But the script is a mess. Entire scenes seem to be missing, character motivations are vague, and characters keep disappearing for long periods of time (or are briefly introduced and then are never seen again.) It seems writer/director Steven Kovacs wanted to cram every aspect of the period in 98 minutes, so much so that every piece is thin and unsubstantial. Whether you have interest in the period, or are looking for a good drama, this movie ends up being a big disappointment.
